Meet Our Pastor and His Wife

Rev. Fred and Sue Balke
Rev. Fred W. Balke is the founding pastor of The Church of the Good Shepherd. He comes to us with his wife, Sue, from Daytona Beach, Florida where he founded another independent Lutheran Church where he was the pastor for 23 years. Before that time, he pastored churches in Michigan and Iowa.

Pastor Balke is an active pastor with the American Association of Lutheran Churches whose national offices are located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Before joining the AALC, Rev. Balke served his former denomination, The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod as executive director of the Greater Detroit Council of Lutheran Churches, a member of the Michigan District board of directors, and executive director of the Bethel Bible Series Program.

Pastor Balke and his wife Sue make their home in the Franklin area and besides working with their church find time for hiking, camping and gardening.

One advantage of being in a small church like Good Shepherd is that you have the opportunity of knowing the pastor and his wife on a close and intimate basis. They look forward to meeting and getting to know you too.
