Service to Community and World
We have been blessed to God to be a blessing. We are saved by God's grace through faith alone, but faith is never alone--for good works follow faith. We believe that a genuine faith will show itself in acts of compassion for our neighbors. A lot of that will take place as we engage in our vocations or callings where God has placed us. But we also believe in working together to help those who are hurting.
Food Pantry
One of the ways in which we help our neighbors is through our weekly food pantry, which is open on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. Each week we serve around 60 to 70 clients. Half of them are homeless, while the other half are bringing groceries to their families.

Donations of non-perishable food items are always welcome. Contact the church office (773.276.2338) to drop off food items.

East Wicker Park Organization
First Bethlehem is proud to host a local block club that works in a non-partisan way to address community issues such as gangs, crime, beautification, and use of the local park (Dean Park). Click below for a link to their webpage.

Lutheran Church Charities
Lutheran Church Charities has been a big blessing to us. Various Lutheran churches around the area have gathered food and LCC has brought it to us. They have helped us meet the specific needs of parishioners and those in the community.

LCC was one of the first agencies to send volunteers to work in the areas devastated by Huricane Katrina. Nearly a year later they are still organizing more teams to go down to help with the massive cleanup and rebuilding--long after many organizations have forgotten the people there. Click on the link below and you'll see a number of worthwhile projects as well as a number of needs (locally and internationally) that you can help meet.
