The links listed below give you more information on our Chapter activities. But here's an overview of what our Chapter does.
The Fresno County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans consists of all 22 Lutheran churches in Fresno County, California. Each year, Thrivent Financial gives us several thousand dollars to distribute to groups of Thrivent Financial members who organize projects that benefit the larger community or help individuals with special needs. The amount this year is $20,955, and it's being spent on projects that feed the hungry, aid youth and the elderly, support missionaries, beautify our communities, and much more.
We also have a special project this year: Thrivent Financial has awarded Habitat for Humanity, Fresno, a grant of $10,000 to help build a house! Habitat is a Christian-based organization that works to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. We're delighted to have this special opportunity to support Habitat with our time, treasure, and prayer.
The Chapter also sponsors fellowship events. In fact, on May 14, there were 459 of us attending "Lutheran Night at the Grizzlies." It was a memorable evening, as the power went out for about an hour during the game. But that just gave us plenty of time to visit!
The Board that coordinates all these activities consists of members of 9 of the churches in the Chapter. Then, at your own church, there are 3 Congregational Coordinators who help to bring you news of Chapter activities. These Coordinators also distribute funding and work with congregational teams that do projects to benefit the individual congregation (as opposed to chapter projects, which cannot benefit just a single congregation).
