Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, Son of God and Son of Man, and we strive to serve him faithfully because of the great love he showed us through his death on the cross and his resurrection. Immanuel is the largest Lutheran church in Geary County, with an average of 150 people worshipping together each Sunday. Service is at 10:30AM, with Sunday School and Bible Classes at 9:15AM.
What is distinctive about Immanuel and the Lutheran Church? Our distinctiveness comes from what we believe, teach, and confess. Other churches may be distinctive because of how they are structured or who their leaders are. But the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod has a long history, dating back to Luther himself and his rediscovery of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, of being a teaching church. OUR PASTORMy name is Matt Christensen and I’m the pastor here at Immanuel Lutheran. I was born in Kalispell, Montana in February of 1974. God officially claimed me to be part of His kingdom through Baptism a month later. In 1987 I was confirmed at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kalispell. Faith in Jesus is the greatest gift that I have ever received and I thank God daily for making me one of His children.
In 1988 I met my future wife Jessica. We dated during high school and a year of college before we were married in 1993. I also enlisted in the Army in 1993 and began training in South Carolina five days after our marriage. Jessica is a wonderful companion, friend, and helper. I praise God for allowing me to have such a great wife.
Jessica and I have lived in Montana, Germany, Arizona, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas. For 13 long months we were separated as I served a tour in South Korea. We have three bright and energetic children: Curtiss, Caleb, and Cassia. The boys were both born in Germany and Cassia in Arizona. They all enjoy reading, sports, and playing with our dog Roscoe. We are so thankful for the blessing of children that God has given to us.
I made a living as a soldier for seven years before deciding to return to school. I attended at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. During this time I also served in the National Guard. I am currently a chaplain candidate for the Army. I have a passion for serving military personnel and their families and I thank the soldiers who work so hard to keep our nation free. May God continue to give you strength and courage as you serve the people of our nation.
I enjoy being the pastor for Immanuel because of the wonderful people here. This congregation knows how to take care of one another and how to reach out to others with the love of Christ.
