Lancaster County Chapter Board Meeting Minutes
November 4, 2007

The Lancaster County Chapter Board of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans met on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at Camp Carol Joy Holling, 27416 Ranch Road, Ashland, NE. President Phil Wittig called the monthly chapter meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. following the annual Chapter Retreat. Board members in attendance included: Phil Wittig, Jeff Peterson, Jan Beck, Kristy Plander, Billie Frost, Judy Janssen, Sally Mertens, Margaret Simmons and Tim Wiggins, Absent Board members included Keith Plummer and Dennis Engelbart. Advisory Board members present included: Roger Simmons and Linda Stubbendick, Others present included: Julie Ferri, Financial Associate, Arnette Garris and Shane Larsen (vice president-elect).

Reports

Records Director: Jan Beck presented the minutes of the October 23, 2007 monthly chapter meeting that had been distributed to the Board prior to the meeting. The motion was made by Kristy Plander and seconded by Billie Frost to approve the October 23rd minutes as printed and distributed. The motion passed.

Chapter Election Results: There were 203 votes cast during the Lancaster County Chapter election held at the Chapter Fall Event on October 14, 2007. The Records Director reported the following results: President: Jeff Peterson-200 votes; Vice President: Shane Larsen-197 votes; Records Director: Jan Beck–198 votes; Financial Director: Kristy Plander–195 votes; Assistant Financial Director: Billie Frost-193 votes; Communications Director: Margaret Simmons-195 votes; Events Director: Judy Janssen-196 votes; Youth Director: Sally Mertens-196 votes; Congregational Service Team Director: Vicki Onken-196 votes; and Community Project Team Director: Keith Plummer-195 votes. The motion was made by Kristy Plander and seconded by Billie Frost to accept the election results. The motion passed.

Financial Director: Kristy Plander provided the financial reports to date and explained the forms used to the new Board member. There being no questions the report was filed for audit.

Community Service Team Report: In the absence of Keith Plummer, Kristy Plander presented the Care Abounds in Community (CAIC) activity requests that had been received since the October Chapter meeting. All CAIC approved requests are being funded 1:1 unless otherwise noted.

Project #07-30242-61: This project request for $800 is from the Sheridan Lutheran and is titled “Music Man”. The activity will be held on November 17, 2007 at Sheridan Lutheran Church. The recipient is City Impact (faith-based organization ministering to youth and families is urban neighborhoods. The motion was made by Billie Frost and seconded by Jeff Peterson to approve this project request for up to $800. The motion passed.

Project #07-30242-62: This hands-on project request for $800 is from Calvary Lutheran, Lincoln and is titled “Jesus Our Saviour Outreach”. The activity will be held on November 10, 2007 at Jesus Our Saviour Preschool, Winnebago, NE. The project is building a deck connecting the two entrances and do clean up. The motion was made by Kristy Plander and seconded by Margaret Simmons to approve this project request for up to $800. The motion passed.

Project #07-30242-63: This hands-on project request for $800 is from Lancaster County Chapters and is titled “Chapter Christmas Party Service Project”. The activity will be held on December 6, 2007 at the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Office and the Lincoln Lutheran Food Pantry. The motion was made by Kristy Plander and seconded by Billie Frost to approve this project request for up to $800 pending the approval of the head of the food pantry for publicity. The motion passed.

Project #07-30242-64: This project request for $1000 is from the Lutheran Women in Mission of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Lincoln, NE and is titled “Seminary Students”. The activity will be held on December 12, 2007 at the Good Shepherd. The recipients are the Good Shepherd Seminary Students (Kevin McReynolds, Adam Moline and Mark Duer) . The motion was made by Kristy Plander and seconded by Billie Frost to approve this project request for up to $1000. The motion passed.

Project #07-30242-65: This project request for $800 is from St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Lincoln, NE and is titled “Lincoln Lutheran Food Pantry”. The activity will be held on November 5, 2007 at the Lincoln Lutheran Food Pantry. The motion was made by Kristy Plander and seconded by Margaret Simmons to approve this project request for up to $800. The motion passed.

Project #07-30242-66: This hands-on project request for $400 is from the Messiah Women in Mission of Messiah Lutheran Church, Lincoln, NE and is titled “Christmas Greeting to Soldiers”. The activity will be held on November 19, 2007 at Messiah Lutheran Church. The activity is to purchase supplies and postage to make cards for soldiers serving in the military who are also the recipients. The motion was made by Kristy Plander and seconded by Billie Frost to approve this project request for up to $400. The motion passed.

President Phil Wittig recessed the meeting for dinner at 5:55 p.m. The meeting was reconvened at 6:45 p.m. Sally Mertens was not in attendance at the reconvened meeting.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2007 following the Financial Associate Reception. The meeting will be held on the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Office, 7431 ‘O’ Street, Lincoln, NE

There being no further business, Phil adjourned the meeting at 7:15 p.m.
