2006 State Fair Thrivent Builds
Friday, August 25th was the opening of the Nebraska State fair and day 1 of the Lancaster County Habitat for Humanity/Thrivent Builds house to be built at the State Fair.

Day One: The locations of the walls are laid out on the deck.

Walls prebuilt by Millard Lumber arrive at the site.

The prebuilt walls are unloaded and stacked on the deck.

Bundle of walls being moved to the deck.

The outside walls are being put in place.

Half of the outside walls are up.

The last of the outside walls is put in place.

Saturday, August 26, 2006 was the second day for the State Fair Build. Again a large number of workers turned out to help with the build.

The seconded day started with workers stocking the shingles on the roof.

Sheeting the the other side of the roof got under way.

Chalk lines were made on the back side of the house for sidding.

Windows on the back side were installed and sealed.

The roof edge is being added.

The roof is sheeted and papered.

Sunday was Day three of the build. The porch railing was installed and the gables were sided. However a steady rain prevented additional outside work.

The tub/shower is installed and plumbed.

Monday, August 28, the fourth day was devoted to painting of the exterior and shingling the roof.

When workers arrived at the house, Channel 10 & 11 was there to film on location.

The plumbers arrived to finish up the ruffing in of the plumbing.

Electrical work was being finished.

The heating and air conditioning workers arrived to ruff in the duct locations.

Shingling of the porch was started so the siding could be completted.

Inside the house the insullation was being installed.

After the insullation was installed the moistue barrior was stapled into place.

Helping to build this day were members from Messiah Lutheran in Lincoln, NE.

During lunch the house was stalked with drywall.

The sheetrockers arrived and started to hang the sheetrock.

They were soon working on the walls.

In about 90 minutes they had the sheetrock hung.



The lockset was installed in the front door.

Pricella gets to hold her future keys.

Late in the afternoon the shingling is almost finished.

On Day Five of the build no large groups were scheduled. This was a day for the contractors to complete their projects on the house. Some touchup painting took place on the exterior.

Early in the morning the drywallers were taping the drywall joints.

Scaffolding was removed from around the house.

The insullation company arrived to blow insullation into the attic area.


The Thrivent Financial door knocker was installed.

Pricella had to demonstrate its use.

The house number and shutters were installed.

After lunch the ceiling were sprayed with compound...

...and a broom texture was applied.

The attic air vents were installed.

This is the interior of the house after having the ceiling textured and walls had an orange peeled textue applied.
Day six found the kitchen cabinets, prehung doors and trim material had arrived at the site.

Kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanity were on site.

Prefinished, prehung passage doors were stacked in one of the bedrooms.

Painters were busy painting the interior.

Closet shelfing material was laid out to be cut to length.

After the interior was painted the flooring people started to lay the finish floor for the vinyl in the kitchen.

Closet shelf and closet rod brackets and hardware was installed.

The doors were hung.

Seams in the finished flooring were filled.

Door trim is being cut.

The jamb in the opening between the dinning room and living room is installed.

Doors were trimmed out.

Window extensions were cut and fabricated.

Final touches of the kitchen vinyl are made.

Kitchen wall cabinets are laid out to be hung.

Wall cabinets are hung and the base cabinets are being installed.

The windows are being trimmed out.

Closet doors were installed in the bedrooms.

Door knobs were installed once the doors were trimmed.

The dinning room/living room passage was trimmed.
Day 7

Shelving was installed in the bedroom closets.

Pulls were installed on the bifold doors in the bedrooms.

The kitchen appliances arrived.


Counter tops were installed.

Electricians installed the outlets, switches and lighting.

Patio door with light fixture installed.

The front door was painted

Dinning room light fixture.

Finished bathroom.
Day 8. Carpet was installed and the house made available for public inspection.

The fencing was removed from around the house.

The floor is made ready for carpet.

Pad is rolled out and cut.

All the padding is installed.

The lot where the house will be moved to.

September 21st broke with overcast skys and rain. It was moving day.

The basement/foundation was finished and waiting for the house.


The house is on dollies and hooked to the truck.

The house is on its way to the new foundation.

By noon it was sitting beside the foundation.
