LAST CALL

Vange's Mosquito Net Fundraising

It all started with a mosquito…is there anything more common and pesky in Alaska in the summertime than a mosquito? That annoyance for us is literally the cause of death of millions; in Africa a child dies every 30 seconds from malaria, borne by mosquitoes. And all it takes to stop it is something familiar to us Alaskans: nets.

We are joining Resurrection Lutheran Church in raising funds to buy treated mosquito bed nets at a cost of $10 for a family of four. Vange's Mosquito Net Fund will match up to $1,000 raised during the campaign from June 29-July 27. Donations should be marked and put into the offering. Check out the web site at nothingbutnets.org and visit Resurrection Lutheran's site www.rlcjuneau.com to view more results.

PLC Donations      6/22/08                $150.00

          Yahoo!          6/29/08                $200.00

                                  7/06/08                  $70.00

                               7/13/08                $505.00

                                     7/20/08                $170.00

Help!

We are hoping to improve our church website by launching our own site, rather than using the Thrivent site. To do this we would need some initial help setting it up. Is this a talent you have, or do you know someone in our congregation that could help?  This could be a public service opportunity for a technically talented high school student. The commitment would only be to build the site - the office would maintain it.

Please call or come into the office if you need more information or have ideas for us. Thanks to those of you who have already been working with us!

Potluck Farewell

August 3, 2008

You are invited to join with the entire congregation in bidding Max, Amanda, Payton, Callie, & Anna Russell a warm goodbye at a potluck luncheon next Sunday, August 3rd. The luncheon will begin about 12:30 in the Holy Cross House. We will miss worshiping with them but wish on them God's blessings as they return to Sitka.

The regular coffee hour schedule will resume the following week ~ please note this on your calendar.

"Walking Wet"

Women's Summer Retreat

August 2, 2008

Join us for the 2nd Annual Women's Summer Retreat Saturday, August 2nd, from 9:30-3:30 p.m. at Shari Otness' home, 696 Mitkof Hwy. Women of all ages are invited and encouraged to attend.

The study will be from the magazine Lutheran Women Today. It will guide us through the images and meanings of baptism and how the sacrament shapes our lives and vocations. It is an invitation to "walk wet" ~ to remember, affirm, and celebrate baptism throughout life. Copies of the study can be found online at lutheranwomantoday.org or pick up your copy at the church office.

Lunch will be a Potluck/Hot Dog Roast affair. A   registration sheet is on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall along with other information. Thank you goes to Sally Riemer for organizing this event!

We talked to Pr. Stan and it's a go…

Want to join a Vacation Bible School team on board the M/V Christian during the week of Aug. 17th in Kake? We have a team of four (Pete & Carol Beckett, Sally Riemer, and Susan Christensen) but there's still room for a couple more!  Let us know in the office.
