THE WORLD WIDE WEB

In this 21st century it is fitting to take over www/elca as an acrostic for evangelism.  It is so because as the “Internet Web” connects our computer with the universe of information that is out there and available to all who are connected; just so Evangelism is the connecting link of the Holy Spirit linking us with all that is life giving and eternal.

Evangelism is not a program that can be done by a committee in a congregation to make the congregation grow.  Rather Evangelism is the sharing of the good news that Jesus Christ is alive and among us to give us life and to transform us into children of God who can enjoy living with him forever.  When we are aware that Jesus has claimed us as His own in Baptism and called us into a daily walk with Him then everything we do is Evangelism.

So Evangelism is the heart, soul and life blood of the Church of Christ.  It begins with our worshipping the savior enthusiastically, which is our witness to the presence of our Lord among us, motivating us to welcome sinners unconditionally to join us.  The Church is the World Wide Web of Jesus, linking us with Him and all that is His in this world and the world to come.

Since it all begins with Worship, six of us have agreed to be an Evangelism Team for one year.  We will meet together on the 4th Thursday of each month to talk about how to keep the Church’s mission of Worship, Witness and Welcoming sinners foremost in this Good Shepherd Family of Faith.

We would love to have six more persons join us.  Just show up on July 24th at 7:00 p.m.  We plan to meet in the Church Library.  Should we need a larger room we will be delighted.  Begin now thinking about how you learned to worship Jesus.

                                                                             Your Evangelism Team

Protestant Preschool & Kindergarten

“Protestant Preschool and Kindergarten is a place where the child is a unique individual and taught at his or her own level of development.  The atmosphere is one of acceptance, warmth and love with Christian attitudes guiding the child at his/her own pace, and in their own way.  The program provides opportunities and experiences for the child to learn and grow spiritually in the awareness of God, and to develop emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually.”

Protestant students range in ages 2 ½ through Kindergarten.  The half-day Kindergarten program was restarted over three years ago, and classes are held Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until noon.  The Preschool program operates from 9:00 a.m. until noon and offers a variety of different choices to allow the parents to personalize their child’s scheduling interests.  The school offers Wiggles & Tunes (music and movement), Chef Combo (cooking and manners), and Spanish (for older preschoolers and kindergartners).

Good Shepherd Lutheran and First Presbyterian churches host Protestant’s classes.  Other supporting churches include:  Goldsboro Friends, First Christian Disciples of Christ, St. Luke United Methodist, St. Paul United Methodist, and St. Stephen’s Episcopal.

Protestant was established in 1950.  Saralynn Vied serves as the school’s director.  Protestant is governed by a Board of Directors, and each supporting church has positions on the Board for lay persons and staff.

Registration for the ’08-’09 school year will be held on March 3rd and 4th (in house) and on March 10th (open registration).  Please help spread the word!  Call the school office at 735-9056 for more information or to set up an appointment to visit the school.

Today’s special offering will benefit the school’s scholarship fund, which supports qualified, deserving students.  Please place your contribution in the special envelope provided and place in the offering plate today.  Checks may be made out to Protestant Preschool & Kindergarten and are 100% tax-deductible.

Thank you!
