Techno Sermons

My church only recently began using a computerized program to project various parts of the services on a screen. I feel it is distracting and useless. It gets between me and the sermon. I prefer to look into the BIBLE for my scripture reading and find "illustrating" the sermons with slides of mountains, forests, and rivers completely unnecessary. Our church even pretaped the children's Christmas Pageant and played it on the screen so the kids could see themselves!! I can understand recording the actual presentation so they can see it later...but AS the program. Maybe by next Sunday, the pastor can just phone in his sermon!

Thank you, Don. I feel the same way.

Screens

My church uses one only for things such as picture presentations for memorial services, or highlights of a youth or Habitat project, or something of that nature. I expect I'll see one for the annual meeting.

If they used it for sermons, on a regular basis, I would probably find a different church. If I wanted to be a Baptist, I'd be attending a Baptist church.

Power Point

Yes, my pastor always uses Power Point. He has found an effective way to reach more people. After all, we do have different learning styles and while I am able to pay attention without the use of Power Point, I retain much more because of it.

The key to remember in any Power Point presentation: Less is More. He doesn't use fade ins or outs and no other fancy things that can be too distracting from the message.

Our entire service is projected from the two large screens. It sure helps to hear those singing voices better than when their heads are buried in a hymnal. Of course, some song melodies are less familiar and the congregation always has the hymn numbers given vie the bulletin as well as the Power Point screen.

Power Point

My pastor does not and I doubt he ever will. My previous pastor did, and I hated it. I had to sit through Power Point presentations two or three times a week at work, and I certainly didn't want to sit through another one on Sunday. I am perfectly able to pay attention to a service without having visuals flashed on a screen.

In the case of Troudy's church and the deaf members, I can understand it.

power points

Thank you Mr/Mrs.Hanson. We are using a screen to have the service on, because we have deaf people and no one to sign. Helps them to read every thing.

Have a blessed day

Power Point, etc.

Power Point is in the Microsoft Office package, and can be used to make overhead projection visual aids. They're asking if your pastor uses audio or video tools while he's preaching. ;)

Pastor

I wrote never, because I have no idea what youmeant by Power point? Do you mean if he gets his sermons from the Internet?

Have a blessed week.
