why

Why am I concerned when I am on the "outside" several reasons.

1. I have been praying for a revial and move of God in this area for sometime through a denomition or otherwise makes no difference

2. Some years ago God spoke to me in no uncertain terms through Is. 58v 1.

3. I have young grand children growing up in two different church (Luth) and my my heart aches for the ones in the "lax" one.

To Virgil

I just read that you live in rural MO. May I ask if you live near Springfield? If so, I might can help you to find a good church with a good (150 % LCMS) Pastor and good people.

Let me know, and I tell you how you can reach me.

Have a blessed week.

Harry Potter or LCMS ?

Well , since I saw that the first post was about Harry Potter, and than I saw LCMS, I decided to talk about good old Harry.

I just came from the movie HARRY POTTER. My husband and I are 76 years old, and we been around the world. I sure cannot figure out, why almost every one on this board, is upset about the movie. Just pure fiction, like the Richard Wagner Operas, like Star War, like almost every thing you see on TV or movie. (Maybe we are getting senile? )

The special effects were done fantastic. Normal people know, that what they show is fiction. In the end, like in all the other Harry Potter movies, the good wins over evil.

One thing for sure, all that critsm made that Lady rich. I would not even read the first book, if the christian do gooders fell all over it. I wanted to find out myself, what it is all about. Sure had fun about it. Pure fantasy!!

And what is the problem with LCMS? My word, go to church, listen to the word and be thankful, that you can go to the church of your choice.

If you critize some thing, study it before you critize. If you bad mouth a person ,you do not even know, meet them. Take every thing with a grain of salt. You might be pleasantlly surprise when you meet a person you think you don't like, that she/he is completly different as here on the LOL board.

Have a blessed week.

Lutheran churches

I am encouraged that many of the young pastors (and some of the older ones) are of the same mindset as my pastor. These young pastors meet together weekly to study together and hold one another accountable. I think our seminaries are turning out some excellent young men. I realize that there was a sad tendency to get away from the pure Word of God during the Seminex days, but many of these pastors are now of retirement age. God will enable us to see great things in the LCMS in the next few years.

Shar The growth your church has seen is proof that we all are in search and people know the truth when they hear feel it. Your pastor Pastors are doing the work of God.

growing church

Shar, that is very interesting, I agree that people want to hear the truth preached, I did not know that still came forth from Luth. pastors, althrough I did realize not all are in the shape this one is. I know that locally some of the members have confronted the pastor about not preaching against sin and are give an excuse. And this rural church has such an opturnity to reach lost souls in the area. There is so much I would like to write on this subject but these fingers have trouble keeping up with my mind, and as you can tell my spelling is poor besides making mistakes.

Just another comment about preaching against sin, even through we are forgiven and covered by His grace ther is a consquence to sin. And this is covered by the direction in Jeremiah 23:22. You are trully Blessed to have a pastor like you have.

?????

Virgil, I don't think you can judge all Lutheran churches by the one your family attends. I attend a small semi-rural Lutheran church. At least it was small when we started almost five years ago. There were about 60 people in attendance on a Sunday. Now we usually have about 200 at three different services. We have, counting Sunday morning, five Bible studies, plus the pastor's new member class. We have a very active youth program and good attendance at our Sunday School. This was our pastor's first call six years ago. Why is our church growing? I think because he preaches the pure word of God. He is not afraid to call sin, sin. He doesn't try to be politically correct, or preach that God wants us all to be rich, as some popular preachers have. He teaches that we are all sinners saved by God's grace. He teaches that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, even though it might not always be what we want to hear. And you know what, Virgil? This seems to be exactly what people are looking for.

2 Cronicales 7v.14

Hi from rural Mo.

Where is everyone? I have a challenge for someone or all, do a throughful, prayerful comment on 2 Cronicales 7:14. On the conditions, the promises and WHO it is addressed to. Don't miss any of the conditions of this scripture, what a simple way for America to be great again.

I guess we are away from h p

Notice that I will not give h p the dignigty of using capitols!

First, Dan, being Carholic or Lutheran is not what counts, being Christian is (Romans 10:v.9&10).

Second, how do I really feel? Don't know what you mean, sounds like you are picking apart the phrase I used "feel good church".
Aren't you aware of the type of church this phrase is used to describe.
I am aware that most Lutheran are not aware of the how much is avability on TV, and unless one uses satalite. Myself I have Dish Network and have 4 channels with 24/7 Christian
programing (and some I really question) but on these four channels ther is not one Lutheran program. Althrough I think that the TCC has one, I don't get the TCC with my package.

I will address one area of how I feel, I would like to give my grandchildren a better America then I (and my generation) gave my children. MY GENERATION FAILED THEM!!! We let prayer and the Bible be taken our of schools etc. And I don't see the Lutheran church doing much do take this back. Althrough there are other who are. The American Center for Law and Justice Are having tremendoust sucess. Dr. James Kenndys' legal
orgaziation the same (can't recall the name right now) And Liberty University will soon be graduatuating 400 Christian attornieys a year. By the way do you know that every professor at Liberity is a committed Christian and every class is started with prayer.

These 71 yr. fingers need a rest, they are more accostomed to heavy equipment

Lutherans

Virgil, I am not so far from your age, and I have been a member of the Lutheran church for all those years. Like any other denomination, the Lutheran church has it's problems. But perhaps the reason it is not growing as rapidly as a few of the other denominations is because they have not given in to some of the popular trends that are seen in the church growth movement. However, since you're not a member of the Lutheran church, you're really not in a position to say.

Harry Potter

Virgil I am new to luteranism I have done some home work. After 42 years of belonging to another church( catholic) I feel welcome at the Lutheran church. Ours pastors are preaching the bible and teach us to live in today's world by the bible. This fall I will be an offical Lutheran and I am looking forward to it.

harry potter etc.

That is right, I have not read the books or saw a movie, but have read articals about them and heard teaching about the contents. And I know that witchcraft socery, etc is an abomination to God. Even the ficition, a Christian is not to be involved.

I am 71 years of age, and am fairly well informed. I have lived through and watched the decline/deteriotion of the lutheran church for 5 generations. I remember all 4 of my grandparents and have grandchildren in a Lutheran school. Althrough I went to a one room school taught by the pastor and still live close to this church and most of my family and extended family are Luth. I AM NOT
and thankful I am not, There is so very, very much in the Bible that is never taught or preached in Lutheran circles.

Take a sheet of paper and draw aline from top to bottom and on one side list the denominations that are declining and on the other side the church that are growing by leapes and bounds. Then look for the comon denominators for each side. And before someone brings this up, on the growing side take out the "feel good church" I know some are growing for this reason, but certainly not the majority.

a little perspective...

When I was young, I read the Frau- und Hausmarchen (commonly known as Grimm's Fairy Tales). There's all sorts of magic and sorcery in those, and yet I never hear anyone forbidding their kids to read or watch Cinderella, Snow White, or Sleeping Beauty. The point of the tales, when you stripped away all the magical trappings, was that good will triumph and it will all end well for the one who perseveres in following what is good.
I realize that others may not agree, but I classify Harry Potter in with the Frau- und Hausmarchen: an extended morality tale with the trappings of fantasy. And to the ones who do not agree, please stay away from anything written by George MacDonald or Charles Williams. Harry Potter is tame compared to them.
Oh, and Lisa...are you -sure- it was Rowling you heard make 'anti-Christian' statements? That sounds more like Richard Pullman, (author of "The Golden Compass" and its two sequels) who hates Christianity and makes no secret of it. Gilderoy Lockhart (from "Chamber of Secrets") was Rowling's parody of Pullman.

H. Potter books

I have read all of the current books of Harry Potter. These books help children of all races and cultures to discover the joy of reading. Encouraging children to find in Potter's fascinating adventures a stimulus for imagination and creativity. The books, also, help the young to identify essential values: the difference between right and wrong; the importance of cooperation; and solidarity to overcome life's problems. I have seen a young elementary age child who did not like to read , who was encouraged to try these books and after starting to read it did not want to put the book down before he was finished. His has a joy in reading now. THESE h. POTTER BOOKS ARE FICTION!235143

I actually only saw the first 2 movies and read the first 4 books. I didn't see any satanic content, but saw a quote from the author that was VERY desturbing about her anti-christian beliefs. I wont see the new movie or read anymore.

I am looking forward to the book and movie. Lately , I fall asleep when I read, but the movie should be interesting to watch. Let your thinking go wild.:) :) :)

Who believes in thist staff is absolutly stupid. MOH. I would not take little kids, under 13 into te movie, because of the scary part, but normal people know thta this is just a movie. Probably better as some of the ponographic films they how on TV or Film.

Have fun.

The lectures are about to begin. It's only a matter of time before someone decides to tell us that we should not be reading/watching Harry Potter because of the "satanic/evil" influences.
