labor day
What better way to spend labor day but by laboring. I have had a hard
time keeping help. I just can not understand young people today. They
want all this stuff but will not work for it. They want a job so they
can tell everyone they have one but do not want to work. So here Iam
doing the work they did not do and their off having fun. Oh they will
still get a pay check and whatever they need they can just have Mommy
and Daddy buy for them. I am not saying all youg folks are this way but
this is geting a little old.
all of society is changing and what is now the "norm" is not. The
snowball is rolling down hill faster and getting bigger all the time.

Labor Day
I find it odd that Thrivent didn't provide a choice that said something
like "Participating in a Labor event", like a Labor Day picnic. The
purpose of the holiday is , after all, to honor those who labor.
But, then, we tend to not pay much attention to the reasons behind many
of our holidays, don't we?

Labor Day
When we lived in Michigan, Labor Day was our last big hurrah, the last
cook-out, pool party for the summer. We invited all the family for one
last big day, but in Michigan early September can sometimes be cold.
Fortunately, our pool was heated.
Now that we are Floridians, summer is not cookout, picnic time,
especially since for the first time in 40 years we do not have a pool.
We will stay in and do our best to keep cool. I do miss those Labor Day
picnics, but all those kids have grown up and have kids of their own
now.

It really -is- Labor Day!
At my workplace, the 3 summer holidays--Memorial Day, Independence Day,
and Labor Day--are limited work days. We all sign up to work at least
one of those holidays, or more if we wish (although so far we've never
needed to work more than one of them, since we just use the bare minimum
of staffers), and we also put down which of those holidays we'd rather
not work. Not only do we get overtime for our work, but also the store
provides our lunch (we've had KFC, deli tenderloins with fixin's,
yard-long subs, pizza, and catered barbecue meats with breads and sides
over the years I've worked there). We get off at 4 p.m., so there's
still plenty of time to do evening family stuff.
So yeah, I'm -working- on Labor Day; but since Monday is normally my day
off, I will actually get paid for 52 hours that week, rather than the
normal 40. Can't beat that with a stick! :)
