QuickBooks

Me, I use QuickBooks. I LOVE it! Yes, I could use paper and pen, but why? With this program I can download my bank transactions direct from my bank's online site. Personal vs. side business is easy squeezey lemon pleasy.

For those who are used to Quicken... QuickBooks is an upgrade of sorts that gives you even more tools to use!

Literally Paper and Pencil

I have an index card in my purse with and EXPENSE column and an INCOME column and I literally keep track of my budget with paper (index cards) and pencil (instead of pen in case I make a boo boo). It helps me spend less $ and I keep it in my purse right between my check book and wallet!

I have no money so there is no point to keep track of it.If ever have any money I will use pencil and paper because that is all I can afford

Tracking Finances

Recently I've been using a combination of home-made spreadsheets and Quicken. I used to use Microsoft Money, but I got fed up with the confusing, non-intuitive interface of the recent versions. Quicken is better, but not by much. I've just been using it to track my bank and credit card balances.

Quicken

I've been using Quicken for nearly 15 years. It helps keep track of expenses for tax purposes, and makes the meeting with the accountant each year relatively short. I first got it when I had purchased some rental property in order to keep track of those expenses a bit more easily. Since I have a side business now, I find it essential.

The two things I like best about Quicken is that it "remembers" your regular transactions, so you don't have to type out details all the time. Also, you can schedule your regular bills, so if an infrequent bill doesn't arrive or gets lost, you still know it needs to be paid.

I had this happen with an insurance bill recently, and was able to contact the company about it before it was past due.

MONEY

I use my bank statement Papaer and Pencil. I just talked to my Thrivent Financial Rep. today so now can save even more. Thrivent is a great place to do business with. They are looking out for fellow lutherans. Our future is a contination of the present. If we continue to spend and not save we will be in the same boat we are in today. If we change our present methods of saving and investing our future will change and look brighter. It all starts some where let it start today.

tracking finances

It seems as if things register better in my old brain if I actually write rather than just type and read.
