Seeing through the fog

George has a good point. There's no way a single wage-earner could afford a home here unless the salary is double the mean wage. Numbers don't lie, but a good statistician can make them say whatever you want them to say. There're definite downward trends, such as housing market, new homes, lost jobs, unemployment gains, and of course the banks.

We're taught and conditioned to be accustomed to a standard of living that costs more than what a generation or two ago had. For me to buy a new car would be unheard of! But, I have DSL for my computer. And I have a cell phone. Together that's $80. Add to that the other few luxuries I allow myself and my son, and there's room to cut -- but I'd go MAD, I say!

MTS, maybe some of that "doom and gloom", and the reality that it is based upon, is better than the "Alice in Wonderland" outlook that we've been fed for the past seven years. War is good - peace is bad. Wrong is right - right is wrong. Maybe recessions are good for the country, too!

recession

I don't know if we're in a recession - but if we aren't, the liberal media may very well create one by making people believe we're in one through their sensationalist "doom and gloom" reporting. Especially as long as a Republican is in the White House, it is to their political advantage to talk down the economy in order to give Democrats an edge in the elections.

recession

Only those folks who watch CNN and CBS are brainwashed into believing we are in a resession. Sure housing sales are down. Records were set in 05 & 06. That pace could not be maintained. Housing prices had to drop. The middle and low income were priced out of the market. Remember, WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN> It's only an adjustment. Just look at the parking lots at the stores and resteurants. Look at the traffic. I see no difference.
