I vote..

I vote based on the issues. Today the issues are many. With the fact that one of the canidates is related in my family, I have to admit that there is pressure to vote a certain way. However, I need to vote to who I feel will be the canidate that would be able to do the job that would benefit all. I have watched all debates, read all I could on each of the canidates and will be giving my vote on the canidate I feel would be best for the job. This is how I have always voted. Not based upon a party.

Republicans and the poor

I'm almost Libertarian on some issues (economic), but I'm conservative on social issues (abortion) so I generally align with Republicans.

I wanted to correct the misunderstanding that Republicans (conservatives) care less about the poor and needy than Democrats/liberals. I maintain that the opposite is true. Conservatives just differ in philosophy as to how best to help the needy. They simply have more faith in individuals and private charities than they do in government programs. That's why conservatives on average donate more to charities. They also strive to encourage personal responsibility and discourage dependence whenever possible so that more resources will be available to help those who are genuinely needy.

A Christian and a Democrat

Jesus' entire ministry focused on caring for those who were scorned and rejected from society--including the poor, the ill, the alien. He frequently admonished the fiscal conservatives of his day that all should be sold to be given to the poor. He promoted understanding and compassion to all. I became a democrat many years ago, because I felt that their ideals, while not perfect, more closely aligned with my Christian values. I would not choose abortion myself, but as a nurse of 30+ years I remember when women risked their lives with illegal abortions. As a Christian I try to support charities that provide for women & children so that perhaps someone would not have such a hard time raising a child. I feel that the anti-abortion claim by many candidates is just that--a claim. I don't most would actually attempt to reverse any abortion laws, because guess what?--if they did, they would not be able to use this as a hook to get those one-issue voters. When you look the lives of some of these multi-married, hate spewing, worldly candidates who claim to be anti-abortion you have to think that it is a ruse to get votes, because nothing else in their life reflects Christ.

My View

I am a Christian and I feel a good one. I will vote the Democratic ticket this time as I feel the last eight years have not been the best for our country. We do need a change. I do like the standards of McCain but this time around I like the changes Obama has expressed. I do not believe in abortion but I do believe others should have the right to choose, God will be the final judge not you or me. I know to many women who should never have had a child. The children are the ones who suffer and not enough "good people" come to the aid of the children. Are you one of the people who don't believe in abortion but don't help the children who are abused and neglected?

Conservative

There are too many things that democrats support that are clearly condemed in the bible. I find it very hard to believe that a true Christian would even think about voting for a democrat. Although I am not too fond of the republicans this time around either. I will just keep praying that Our eyes will be opened and we will see the evil that has come into our world.

political party

I chose none, although there is one major party I do seem to vote for 99% of the time. We should all vote the way Jesus would want us to vote, not for how it will benefit us, but all of creation.

Republicans generally will save the least of the least, the unborn children of God, yet the Democrats will care better for the poor. It seems there is no one that is for all, the unborn, the poor and the middle class who are the ones that really live by faith as no one takes care of them but Jesus.

When there is a wash I do vote for a third party, some say that is throwing your vote away, but I feel if America is not voting "party lines only", really look at both sides and if the candidates don't fit what a Christian wants, a third party is the only choice. If enough vote third party maybe the future will give us better choices.

What political party do you belong to?

Some states are closed primary states, and you are not able to vote in the primary if you do not register with a party.

Sara, I'm not sure what you mean by the best person. When I choose a candidate, I align myself with the Republican party because it's beliefs are closest to mine. I will look at party platform, voting records, speeches, but in the end, I know that the Republican party, and her people, share my views and values.

Sara, I agree with you, since you said, "People should vote on who they feel would be the best for the job." About 95% of the time, I think that the best candidate is the Republican.

political party

As a Lutheran Christian, only pro-life candidates get my vote. That is my priority as it should be for all Christians.

Political parties

I feel it is irresponsible to align yourself with political parties. People should vote on who they feel would be the best for the job, not what party they belong to. Mixed tickets are the only things that make sense, if you really look at the candidates and the issues.
