Love Feast

I prefer the Love feast service. We usually do this the Sunday before Christmas and one or two of the Sunday school classes will serve the congregation Moravian sweet rolls and a cup of coffee. And we do this all while singing Christmas carols. At the end of the service we all hold candles and sing Joy to the world. It is pretty Amazing to see all the members shining their light for the Lord.

Christmas Services

When I was very young, the Children's program was always on Christmas Eve. Later, they moved it to the Sunday Morning before Christmas, so the Christmas Eve service became more of a Choir Concert.

My favorite Christmas services have been Carol Services, where multiple readings are followed by the first verse of a different, related Carol or Hymn. Unfortunately, not many congregations offer this type of service anymore.

Christmas service

As a child, I grew up in a small community
where my father was the pastor. He served
two churches so one children's service would
be at 4:00p.m. and the other at 8:00p.m.
We would attend the later one as the
parsonage was across from the church. When
my children were growing up, we attended the
children's service, also the grandchildren's
service, but now I prefer the morning service.
As a senior citizen, I need my sleep.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

RE: Midnight Candlelight service!

I remember as a kid growing up in Dryden Ontario Canada, my Dad who was the Pastor would have Christmas Eve Service starting at 7 or 8 pm and lasting over an hour. This was such a simpler time, but the memories are so vivid.Dad was called home in 2003 so there will be no more of his special services. The point being that you don't have to hold a service at "Mid-night" in order to experience the joy of Christmas Eve and the candle light service. As long as it is dark outside the feeling is still a most wonderful feeling when celebrating the birth of Baby Jesus!
So....
Phil I hope that you sleep well at midnight, but go to another church who may have an earlier service on this special night!
Peace from Steve at the Grand Canyon!

Christmas services

Out of those choices, I like the midnight service least. I like to be asleep, at midnight, on Christmas Eve.
