Lesson and Carols
ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTERS AND READERS are needed for November 30, December 7, 14, and 21.
Fuel Ingather
Fuel Ingather-Due to the ever increasing cost of fuel we will again this year be having a fuel ingather during the month of November. We have applied for and will be receiving supplemental funds from Thrivent Financial for this ingather.
Thrivent Builds
For several years, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for needy families. The local chapter of Thrivent and Habitat will be conducting a build in the area which will begin in the Spring of 2008. The building lot which is located 4 miles west of Newville on PA641 has been approved for the building of the home to begin.
There are all sorts of opportunities for individuals and businesses to participate. The mechanical types of work (i.e. plumbing, heating, electrical, etc.) are done by professionals. Much of this work is done by local professionals who volunteer their labor. The framing and other carpentry skills are normally handled by volunteers from the churches in the chapter. Work on the project is normally scheduled on Saturday and Monday of each week until completed. Scheduling of work and workers is coordinated by an individual from each of the chapters.
Each congregation in the chapter who have chosen to participate will have a Congregational Champion. Mike Shambaugh will serve in that capacity at Mt. Zion. As people volunteer for the tasks they feel comfortable doing, Mike will let them know when the work for those tasks will be done. Please see Mike or call him at 717-796-1685--or you may call the church (717-258-3039), leave a message, and he will get back to you.
There are a variety of tasks for which volunteers are needed--and not all require carpentry skills. One of the more important is to insure that there is food and drink for the laborers. Please give Mike a call and discuss how you can help!
