PLATEAU REGIONAL LONG TERM RECOVERY COMMITTEE
MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of The Plateau Regional Long Term Recovery Committee was to assure that those families affected by the November 10, 2002, tornados in the five (TN)counties of Anderson, Cumberland, Morgan, Roane, and Scott receive available aid their lives to as normal as possible by:

1. Strengthening and expediting area-wide disaster recovery by coordinating assistance from all contributing service agencies; and

2. Identifying victims with specific unmet needs and working with all possible speed and diligence to meet as many of those needs as possible in as simple and understandable a process as possible; and

3. Raising and dispensing funds or providing other forms of aid for those victims.

Tennessee Disaster Recovery
Tornadoes hit Tennessee and many other states in mid-November 2002 leaving severe devastation in Morgan County, Cumberland County, and surrounding areas. Including the death toll, this was the worst disaster in many years for the state. Relief/recovery efforts were fully underway for a whole year with a broad spectrum of agencies from the federal/state government and non-profit/church-related agencies providing assistance. All the efforts were coordinated through the PLATEAU REGIONAL LONG TERM RECOVERY COMMITTEE under the leadership of Pastor Tom Mooty. Volunteer work was coordinated by David Acres. This site was facilitated in the winter of 2003 to enhance information and communications on the recovery efforts by Lutheran Disaster Response of Tennessee.
By adopted resolution, the PRLTRC voted to dissolve effective on the 1st year anniversary of the tornadoes, 10 Nov. 2003. Remaining business matters were transacted by officers, but no further committee meetings were held. Praise the Lord! The modest balance of remaining funds was donated to TN VOAD for its "Citizen-to-Citizen" grant program.
