Volunteer with Thrivent Financial

The Northeast Region's Lutheran Community Services Team is taking steps to increase its involvement in boosting member awareness. Effective this summer, volunteers will be added to help chapter board leaders address routine matters and hot administrative topics. This volunteer's title will be Chapter Advisor. Each Chapter Advisor will cover one to three chapters, attend one-fourth of the chapter meetings, and be on call to answer questions. Advisors may come from the current chapter board or may have formerly served on a chapter leadership board. Not every chapter will have an advisor initially.
The Chapter Advisor will be the liaison between the chapter and the LCSS team. LCSSs will still handle the tougher (non-routine) and personnel issues, and they will attend several but fewer of their chapters’ meetings. Nonetheless, the net result will be more “face-time” with the chapter boards by those more thoroughly trained to resource chapter administration. The first line of inquiry is from the chapter leader to the Chapter Advisor – he/she will determine if an LCSS should be involved. LCSSs will now shift their focus to working on advancing the chapters and the overall chapter programs plus work with FRs on congregational and member awareness activities.

The intent is to:

1) bring more, and more consistent, information to chapter leaders;

2) encourage more feedback from chapters and devote more attention to chapter issues;

3) support additional sharing of best practices; and

4) offer a method for gaining input to further improve training and reference materials.

Each chapter’s advisor will be introduced by the Lutheran Community Services Specialist at one of the chapter meetings held during the summer months, be trained in September, and be onboard in the fourth quarter.

We are pleased to announce the following individuals have been selected as Chapter Advisors and assigned to the chapters noted. They will be introduced to their chapters during the summer and begin serving in this role in September.

The main elements of the Chapter Advisory role are:

·        Serve as a resource to answer questions from chapter leaders.

·        Report progress of the chapter boards in reaching fraternal goals to the assigned Lutheran Community Services team member.

·        Ensure communications with Financial Representatives about chapter events and issues.

·        Monitor the chapter leadership board election process.

·        Share best practices with the assigned chapters and with the LCS Team.

·        Serve as a liaison between chapter leadership boards and the LCS Team.

Each chapter advisor volunteer will be working with the Coordinator of Chapter Advisors and the Lutheran Community Services Specialist serving the geographic area.  This program will expand to include all the chapters.  In the interim, those chapters that do not have a Chapter Advisor, will be served by their LCSS, as in the past.

We believe that this program will increase the support given to chapter leaders, allow the LCS Team to focus on increasing member and volunteer awareness, and provide time for the LCSSs to work more closely with the financial team.

Your comments are appreciated.
