242 Congregations Receive Faith Chests

Middle Schoolers assemble Faith Chests

"Passing on the Faith" was the theme of the 2008 N. C. ELCA Assembly June 5-7 at Lenoir Rhyne University in Hickory. The Southeast Region of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans teamed up with Youth & Family Ministries of the N.C. ELCA to provide a Faith Chest for each of its 242 congregations. Based on Deuteronomy 6:5-8, we are called to be intentional and diligent about teaching our children to love the Lord completely. The Faith Chest is designed to hold the milestones, symbolic items that help us remember important steps in our faith journey. A baptismal medallion, first Bible, confirmation cross, loved book of prayers, and a communion banner would be a few examples. Learning to communicate, celebrate and share our faith to better know and more deeply love the Lord our God is the aim. Connecting our faith with our values, and our walk with our talk can impact the quality of our living.

If you would like more information about activating a Faith Chest ministry in your congregaton, please contact NC ELCA Youth & Family Ministry Coordinator Tammy Jones West at Tammy@lutheranyouth.org. Your congregational coordinators, chapter board and financial representative can also direct you to resources to help you get started.

Care in Congregations

Through the Care in Congregations® chapter care program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provides funding for Thrivent Financial members to conduct fund-raising activities (including appeals/collections) and/or hands-on service activities to benefit a congregation or its related Lutheran institution(s). Members are encouraged to help the congregation in its ministry to the community. Funding comes directly from Thrivent Financial to the congregational service team's congregation.

Cohosting an activity with a Thrivent chapter Multiplying the Good We Do, Together is a professional-looking brochure that answers common questions from organizations that cohost fund-raisers with Thrivent chapters.  Your chapter leadership board can order a copy for you.
