6/22/05 Counting Down....

Less than a week before I catch the big bird and head north. As GB says - Yeehaw! My little Texan. Speaking of GB - here is a pic of two of my favorite guys. GB was supposed to be in the house with me and I busted him out on the tractor with "Grawdaw." I had to get some pics. He's growing so fast.

Here is a pic of the finished purse for DD. It is a seed stitch, envelope purse with a strap long enough to lead from one shoulder and rest on the opposite hip. It has one big pocket inside made from stash fabric samples. I hope she likes it and hope it is what she envisioned.

Here is an update of the Kiri Shawl Althought it doesn't look like much....I'm getting there. I'm at the point of enjoying this project. I think there is a three stage process in most of my projects: beginning frustration with pattern and yarn, pure blissful enjoyment, can't wait to finish. I've learned a lot off this pattern so it is a winner all the way around. I'm not at the point of not being able to wait to finish but I really can't wait to block and wear. It is really beautiful. I saw someone's finished peacock shawl and that is another beauty that I may have to try. Also interested in the Song of Hiawatha pattern - that is really pretty and featured on Wendy's blog today.

Fat girl has worked out twice already this week so I may head over to the Chicks with Sticks meeting tonight. Gives me an excuse to sit and knit plus I enjoy hearing the entertainment tales.

DD & I get our hair dos on Saturday. I'm thinking of getting the toes and waxing on Monday so they'll be fresh for the trip. I'll be all dolled up. Ready for fun!

6/21/05 Summer Solstice

So, this is where DH and I will be heading while we're in PA. Independence Hall - quite a trek from where we'll be staying but hey, we're Texans and we ain't scared of traveling.

I finished DD's purse. I also finished a surprise for someone who reads this blog....well, almost finished. I finished the front and still have to put it (them) together. Hmm, what else? I am more than half way through the rows of Kiri Shawl but that doesn't mean I'm half way through the stitches needed....how should I document progress? Who cares?! I could be lying anyway and I don't think it is going to affect anyone's life.

I was blocked off the puter all weekend which means I did not get a chance to clean the office. Good in some ways, way bad in others. Middle kid was working on a video for her Mom's 50th birthday party. Of course, the puter acted up the entire two days she tried to get it to do something. One cool thing that happened - Saturday night someone hit the telephone lines in front of my house and it took Verizon two days to repair. I so loved not having a telephone ringing over the weekend. Incommunicado is a good thing.

When and If I can get to the puter - I will post a pic of Kiri - she's turning out better than I imagined.

6/17/05 Happy 10th Anniversary!

I arrived home last night to a dozen red roses. Didn't his Mom ever tell him that you never get a woman red roses unless you love her? Poor guy. This morning I woke up to a "Soul Mate" card. I don't care if he doesn't clean the kitchen properly....I love this guy. What do I remember of our wedding day? It was one of the most stressful days I've ever lived through and liked the ending. One of my girlfriends came in from Houston and the girls convinced her they didn't want their hair done the way I did so she changed it. Yeah, that idea hit the fan. DH took Will with him that day so I only had the two girls and he had the 6 year old. That helped, I'm sure. When we all loaded into the car and headed to the church about 30 miles away.....Middle child tells me that she left her shoes at the house. Since we were almost to the church....I wanted to kill. I ended up late to my own wedding and was just about in tears. DH was his extremely understanding self. We ended the day with a 2 hour limo drive which was extremely relaxing. Since we'll be heading out of state soon, we won't be doing a big celebration tonight....only going out to eat or sumpin'.

I wore Firecracker yesterday and I like the way it fits. I wore it with a red mini-skirt and my red Tommy flip-flops. Not bad....I felt cute which is not bad for an old lady.

Speaking of knitting: I got the shawl back to where it was and in the correct stitch placement. It is so refreshing to have it back on track. I am gonna have to come up with a project that I can take with me on vacation. I know that I'll never be able to concentrate on the pattern while shootin' the shit. I'm also gonna need a book since I'm almost finished with Boone. Yummy book. I promised it to DB Don since he can't get enough books to keep up with his reading passion. An unbelievably good book.

Leaving early today ---- had to come in so I could do payroll. It's always sumpin'.

6/16/05 Lookie, Lookie....

...the cat got a cookie. I finished Firecracker last night at Bluebonnet Yarn Shoppe. After going to the cardiologist, I headed over to the store. Owner Pat, Pat's daughter and another mother and daughter team were sitting around the table knitting. I had already finished the two armholes and only had the neck left. The neck got finished, I balled up a skein of cashmere, and I picked out a few rows of Kiri. Moving right along! I am wearing the tank today with a red mini-skirt. Cute. I am wearing it as a test run to see if I like the fit. I have purple ribbon tape from a g. sale cardigan I found and I plan on making it into a twin of Firecracker. I brought the purple with me along with yarn to make a mini-shawl for Firecracker. I also plan on covering a ponytail holder with the matching frizzy yarn I bought from Bluebonnet. Tell me I won't be all stylish. I figure the mini-shawl will be handy since we will be vacationing in an area that gets cool at night and by the looks of the schedule....I'll be out at hours I didn't know existed.

I'm down to counting the days until I fly the coop and head to PA for the reunion. I haven't yet hit the vacillating between not wanting to go and wanting to go. For me, that comes with every trip. When I get up there, I have mini panic attacks thinking that I will be stuck there and can't get back to Texas. Maybe I'll avoid that this trip since I'll have the kids, GB and DH with me.

6/15/05 Humpin' along...

This is something I've been wanting to feature...I found the *finished* needlepoint piece at a yard sale and DH stapled it onto the footstool I inherited from Mum. I asked for it when Mum was cleaning out her house - DSeester and I paid a fortune to have everything loaded onto a truck and brought to Texas. I think it is much happier in its new clothing.

Guess what I did yesterday!? I had an "anti-aging" facial! It was almost as good as the best sex you've ever had. They do microdermabrasion and loads of smell goodies massaged into your face. She even massages your arms and shoulders. All this took
1 1/2 hours...pure bliss, I must say. If it wasn't so expensive, I could get addicted. The majority of the bill was picked up by the gift certificate I received last year for graduation by the lovely wife of the boss. I can't wait to tell her how I spent it. It was way yummy.

I found a boo-boo on the shawl so I'm busy tinking 3-4 rows. I did get one of the arm edgings put onto the Firecracker Tank. I been in a bit of a funk and everything is slow going. I picked up a huge azz freecycle box of cross stitch kits, patterns and supplies. DD dug through it, did lots of oohs and aahs and went home with 3 kits herself. I hit paydirt with that box.

6/13/05 and I thought it was the 20th....

I thought I only had 6 more days of work before leaving for vacation.....getting to work and looking at the calendar tells me a different story than the one I play in my head. Work does that to your brain.

LOOK - I did finish a project over the weekend! No, it is not one of the two that I was supposed to complete. This is a cell phone cozy prototype. It will stay a prototype because it is made from cotton and the weight of the phone does not agree with saggy, baggy cotton. This was made to match DD's Seed Stitch Envelope Purse which, is not finished. I may try using fewer stitches and see what I can come up with. I just don't think she'll use it but maybe if I line it....

What else did I work on, you ask? I worked on the lace shawl, of course. I think I have the chart reading "down Pat" but there are times that I get to the center or to the end and realize I have an extra stitch. I have tinked this project more times than I care to admit. This is a pic of the shawl prior to it being moved onto a circular needle. Don't you just love the colors in this yarn? What a beaut!

I canned 11 pints of tomatos yesterday. Mom would be proud.

DD, GB and I spent 8 hours shopping Saturday. The Visa is screaming out in pain. I found two knit/crochet books on clearance...I'll have to show you what I bought.

6/8/05 Wednesday - Lace Knitting

As you see by the progress bars above...I am almost finished with the Firecracker Tank - I'm on the last few rows of the shoulders. I still need to finish up DD's Seed Stitch Purse - I need to add the pockets to the lining and then sew it all together. I need to start the blue cotton tank BUT I did start a Mohair Shawl. The picture somewhat represents the color of the mohair I'm using. The mohair is actually blue and grey. I won this off of Wendy Knits sometime this past winter. The new, local yarn shop balled it up for me. It has been screaming to me since it arrived in Texas. I just wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to make out of it. It seems to be liking the pattern I chose.....Kiri, which I found here: All Tangled Up Since I had no exposure to chart reading outside of the intarsia from my own designs....I took a class via internet through Needlecraft University. It wasn't rocket science but I did learn so was worth the tiny fee they charge. Anywho....Wendy is yahoo hosting a Summer of Lace that I joined this morning. It was kinda fate since I was digging through the stash this morning to find a project I could bring to work. I grabbed the mohair since I remember the Kiri Shawl and then when I logged on to Wendy Knits this morning....there in the top, right corner of her page is the Summer of Lace link to join the yahoo group. I guess it is meant to be - why fight it?

Yeah, I've been pretty crappy about updating the ol' blog. Work has been keeping me busy and then I've been too tired at night to take pics. I have a few things that I've been wanting to show here but I suppose just describing to you would not give off the same effect.

Looking forward to the family reunion which is being held on the 4th of July. We head to the airport on the 28th....and I've got my schedule jam packed. There are so many things I want to do and eat the I have to map out my life during vacation. Yeah, I should probably wing it but I've done that before and I go home disappointed cuz I didn't do all I wanted. Am I a Virgo or what....I even like to map out what I'll wear every day. No wonder I have periods of meltdown.

6/03/05 June....Jeez

Since I don't have any cool knitting pics...I'll show you one of the things I did yesterday. Got the ol' piggies painted. The cheapskate in me always thought it was such a waste of money...I was reformed several years ago. I love, love, love getting a pedicure. Old age forces me to also have them wax me. I can no longer see without the aid of massive lighting and no contacts lenses.

Speaking of love...I love the new car. There is a lot to be said for driving a nice car. I didn't know what I was missing. Yes, I'll also be missing many more dollars per month but since I have yet to make a payment, I'll enjoy.

Tis all for now. Guess I'll get knitting so I have something to show for the next post. Maybe.
