5/22/05 Sunday

Here is the back of Firecracker Tank. I cast on the front last night and have about 4" complete. I'm also swatching for a blue tank - so far I've dropped down 2 needle sizes. Not sure what that is about - I'm usually dead on with gauge.

I need to line DD's purse and strap. All the knitting is complete - only lacks the lining. GB's 5th Birthday party is today so not sure I'll get to the lining. The party starts at 1 - the guy with the moonwalks and snow cone machine gets here at 11 and it is almost 10. At least the house is clean and ready to go. DD has to get over here so we can do balloons. I bought a million balloons at a garage sale for $3 and DD rented a huge azz helium tank. We'll have balloons everywhere or at least until we run outta helium. This should be a fun party. I love watching the kids have fun. Should be minimal work since we're only having hot dogs, chips, dip, cake and ice cream. I'm sure I'll have to remop and revacuum. Oh well. Such is life.

5/17/05 Tuesday
I've been in a cleaning mood. It is also encroaching to my life at work. I have several rooms set up on work orders to get the floors cleaned and polished. I guess this is the upswing of my moods. I wish I could bottle it. There is probably a pill out there for this mood but I truly don't want to poison myself to stay here. Anyway, the house has been catching it right along with work. DH and I hit the yard on Sunday which wiped me out. I love being out there but it takes me days to recover. I've been dragging my butt around in a wheelbarrow ever since. We trimmed bushes and put a lot of our energy into one area. Our house was the model home for the neighborhood so it has a ton of different trees and bushes. For some reason, they planted two different species of bushes in one area for a total of 15 bushes in one plot. I doubt anyone was thinking what it would look like 20 years later. I still don't know how it looked good even when first planted but hey, I guess I should give them the benefit of the doubt. DH trimmed back 6 of the bushes and pulled up the other 9. I was the cleanup chic. I loaded up the trailer on the back of the riding lawn mower and dumped it out behind his shop. Actually, it was the easiest cleanup I ever experienced but I am getting older. When they lay this body down for its final rest, be assured that all the good is worn off.

In continuing the cleaning theme, I am in the process of cleaning off the entertainment center in my office. I am seriously considering unloading it and handing it down to DD. It holds crap and I need to downsize the crap factor throughout the house. With DSIL moving out and DS moving back into his room, I plan on making him go through his clothes and getting rid of things he hasn't and won't wear. He keeps telling me that he wears all of it but I think that is the avoidance of having to clear it out.

This morning I swatched for the firecracker tank. I'll end up having to use two different sized needles in order to get gauge with the two different yarns I'll be using. Oh well. What is a woman to do? I'm almost finished with the strap for DD's purse. It goes pretty quick since it is only 6 stitches. Just a pain, really. The purse is blocked so it just awaits the strap and the lining. I hope to knock that out this week and get the credit card holder on the needles. I guess I need to have her look through buttons and make a decision.

Doesn't this sound fun? When we are on vacation in PA, my siblings are heading to Six Flags and dragging my kids behind. DH wants to head over to Gettysburg. I love road trips and I really never did any while living in PA. I'm so excited!

5/13/06....Friday the 13th....Yikes!

Since everything at my house is broken...it will all be getting "fixed" over the weekend. My poor car....I drive a '92 Geo Prizm which has over 151K miles on her. I put 131K of those miles on the car. And, as DH says, all of them at the highest rate of speed possible. When I drove a white Mazda, my coworkers called me White Lightning. Anyway, ol' Geo has been a good car but last year she started overheating in the summer and her A/C works well if the car is moving. If you get stuck in traffic - you're SOL. Once it became fall/winter, I knew I was on easy street. I had hoped to have a good paying job by December which, woulda given me the ability to buy myself a new car at a reasonable price. Then my world collapsed on me with the death of my baby brother. The job didn't come through and I wasn't ready for that major change in my life anyway. Soooo - old, tired car is still hitting the streets. Since I'm stressing so horribly from the thought of a car payment, DH is going to try and find a cheap fix for her over the weekend. I'll have to be at home all day Saturday anyway since Maytag is sending by a refrigerator repair guy between the hours of 7 and 5. Huh? Boy, that is a really nice time frame. Last year we bought a bottom mount freezer/refrigerator - yes, I highly recommend. The baskets in the freezer are showing spots of rust and for the price we paid....it ain't cutting it. Nicely, we have a 2 year parts/labor/whatever warranty on it ---- no, it wasn't extra cuz I don't buy the extended warranties.

Plugging away at DD's purse. I think I am almost halfway. I think I'm right on schedule for completing this over the weekend.

5/12/05 Thursday

Here is the caricature Seester and I had made during SWs Mall Ball. I don't know about you but I expected the artist to make me gorgeous. I look a little too happy, Asian and busty. I guess it didn't help that we wouldn't quit making faces at the artist. We had to stand in line for an hour or so and I was scoping out everyone doing their modeling. When the artist would look up at the "victim" the "victim" would smile like they were posing for a camera. So....being the idiots that we are - Seester and I made faces at her every time she looked up. Guess this is what you get.

DH is going to try to repair my ailing car since I'm fretting horribly about a car payment. Keep everything crossed for me that this fix will work.

I took DSIL with me last night and we headed over to the "Chicks with Sticks" meeting. What fun! We got there early (a first for me) and walked over to grab us a Starbucks drink. Fatal mistake - passing by Austin Pizza. I was dying for a pizza after that. The meeting was fun and I got the mohair spun into balls. This is the blue variegated mohair that I won from The Knitting Vault it may be available in the very near future.

5/11/05 Wednesday

As you see, I finished the Tracy mini-purse. I am glad to have this as an FO. Plus, it makes last Wednesday's day off sick (cough) worth it. I have something to show for it. I shoulda taken a pic of the lining cuz it turned out so well. The lining is from the fabric samples stash. I still need to line the strap so it doesn't end up being the Stretch Armstrong Strap.

Started a new project. I have about 3 inches completed on the Seed Stitch Shoulder Purse for DD. Having nothing to do during my break since I finished the Tracy Purse...I wrote out quite a few ?s for DD about the purse she wants. I was happy to see her car at my house when I got home from working out. I got my questions answered and got it on the needles. Her answers were totally different than I had envisioned so I'm glad I had to wait to start. This should be a quick knit. I also offered to make her a mini clutch for her credit cards. She'll be styling!

Oh, lucky me. My car is crapping out on me and now I'll be buying another. I hate this!

5/10/05 Tuesday with an FO!

Here it is....in all its glory. I finished this up last night. I really, really like it. We'll see how it wears. I hesitate on making an all cotton sweater because they tend to weigh about 20 pounds and that does not work in hundred degree weather in humid Central Texas. I was going to wear it to work today but was more in the mood for a fat girl dress.

I'm on to finishing the brown mini-purse I started a few years ago. I made friends with the friend of a friend and she wanted me to make her a brown mini-purse. Well, the friendship fell through and so did the project. I had the purse part finished but no strap/handle. Last week I lined the purse and cast on for the strap/handle. I don't know what length I will make but I did find the perfect embellishment button. I'll shoot a pic when I'm finished. I also need to get cracking on a seed stitch envelope purse for DD. She liked the fabric of the Bain Bag and asked for an envelope purse about yay big with a strap that will hang it down to her hip. Seed stitch is pretty but I hate the knit 1, purl 1. Oh well. Guess I shouldn't show off my projects.

Work is going okay and I look really cute with my peeling forehead. I know better but I'll never learn.

5/4/05 Wednesday

Yeehaw - front finished. Although I had to rip back and restart the middle lace panel, it turned out beautiful. I had to seriously pay attention to my index cards since I had two areas with different stitches but three across. When I was working on the straps, it doesn't tell you (until the end) to make sure you keep track of where you are on the one so that you can do the same on the second. Luckily, I thought of this myself. Still having to be hopeful that the twisted stitches will block out.

Home today and going to clean out the craft closet and yarn holes in the book case. I want to get it all together and decide what else to put on the "WannaBes" list. That will feel good.

I give you one guess as to the owner of the paw in the photo. I had to boot her off the tank to get the picture but she wasn't taking "no" as an answer to being a model for the world.

5/1/05 May? Where'd that come from?

Long time, no blog. I've been super busy at work and haven't been updating like I should. I haven't even worked out for 2 weeks. Pants are tight...yikes! I haven't skipped on the knitting though. As you see, finished the "Bain Bag" this weekend. Middle child told me not to put Bain on the bag so Bath it is. I like the way the bag turned out. I lined it with some cotton fabric samples from the stash. Much more sturdy and I made the straps from the leftovers. It'll be fun to use. I plan on putting my bathroom items in it when we go on vacation.

I had to rip back on the Tassle-less Tank. I messed up the lace panel that goes in the center and I couldn't live with it. Unfortunately, after ripping back, I twisted most of that row of stitches. I think it'll be fine once blocked but it does peeve me that I was careful and still twisted the stitches. I guess that is what you get when you're a faulty human. I'm almost to the armholes which means I'm moving along on it. It was put on hold for the weekend since I was finishing up the "Bath Bag."

DD and I hit a few stores yesterday. I know this sounds really stupid but I bought a brush to clean out the lint area on the dryer. I am so glad that I did. I pulled out about a pound of lint. How stupid is that? Yeah, I'm so stupid that I'm happy.

Off to clean up the office. I also need to do floors. The never ending list.
