3/18/05 Friday - Take That!
Received all my yummy sock yarn yesterday - I didn't get much time with it since it was date night. DH & I went out to eat and then walked around the square window shopping and reading the historical markers. I started a "Bain Bag" from Comforts of Home - Simple Knitted Accents - Author: Erika Knight from the cotton I frogged from the tank. I'm also planning to start a pair of socks from the sock yarn I won from NETA - Northeast Textile Assn - I think I have it right. Whatever - I love that group the best...with or without the sock yarn. I plan on wearing them and thinking of all those nice people....calling them my NETA sox. Oh...and finishing up side one of the top secret project. It is looking good!

3/17/05 My Favorite Color Day - St. Patrick's Day!

Lookie, lookie.....the cat got a cookie...Remember that one DS? I finished it off last night and then pressed it into flatness. I've reached the point where I have to go digging for projects. I need to organize myself this weekend and decide what projects that: 1) I have yarn for, 2) I want to makes, 3) fit the season, which is soon to be. I look at the list of wannabes and who wants to make gloves, afghans or a moebius when it is almost spring? I did order a cool azz tank kit from ramwools.com. I guess I'll just work on small projects until that gets here so that I won't feel like "I need to finish this before starting that."

Today is the day that I've quit smoking - A-G-A-I-N. Yeah, I enjoy it but the news I received yesterday makes it a necessity that I set them aside and work on obtaining a smokefree life - for good this time. It was a year ago, this month, that I had picked up smoking again. I think 1 year, maybe 2? Too old to remember. When I was off the smokes same time a year ago, I understood why people would tell me to just get off the smokes. I was at the point where it was understandable to me that everyone should be smoke free. BUT - once my smoke loving azz touches even one....I'm a goner. I'm like an alcoholic over the smokes. You do too much of anything, it'll kill ya. Anyway - I'm gonna treat myself with the money I save off smokes and either buy yarn from the new yarn shop or online - or, allow myself to be a thrift shop or garage sale whore. Yeah, I would've allowed myself anyway but I'm going to pretend that quitting smoking allows me these luxuries. Last time I quit, I allowed myself to buy the teeth bleaching trays from the dentist. Whatever it takes to convince Ms. Nuttiness to get off the emphysema sticks.

Anyway - I'll be heading to the post office today to mail off the scarf for my dear Betty and the hat for pretty Baby Teagan. Yeah is me!

3/16/05 Wednesday of Spring Break

This is the sweet Thank You I received from Baby Margot and Big Sister Charlotte. I made Margot a Lacy Baby Shawl (see above in the list of finished objects) and gave Charlotte a cute lady bug blanket made out of cotton fabric. Although I think TY notes are overrated, they're always fun to receive. Hello Kitty is something Charlotte picked out herself. Awww.

Lucky me - we got sent home at noon yesterday so I had half a day off! They're laying new carpeting in the atrium of our building and they didn't ventilate so the fumes from the glue were overwhelming. What did I do with all my new found time? Well, I stopped at 2 thrift stores and I sew the holes in DH's work around the house jeans. It was nice to get three pairs of jeans and a shirt off of my sewing stack. I only had to sew a button on the shirt. I also frogged the tan tank that I made when I was the size of a small whale. That has been lying around for a while and it felt good to mark off another UFO. I had planned on spending the afternoon in the home office and I did succeed in that for most part. I wanted to clear out some nooks/crannies but I finished things instead. I guess it was a good trade off.

At one of the thrift store, I found another weaving loom. I have a butt load of sock yarn on its way to me and I may make some Christmas gift scarves on the looms. I need to find out how to make things longer than the loom though. Can't quite get my mind around the weaving apparatus.

Betty's scarf - well, I've got it down to 10 stitches and on size 13 needles in stockinette stitch. I don't like that it has to be such a skinny scarf but in order for it to have any length to it with the amount of yarn that I have..... I'm going to have to iron block this when I'm finished since stockinette always likes to curl. I hope it is something she likes.

The secret project - I have most of one half completed. It is turning out cute. Looking forward to seeing what it looks like when complete.

Guess that is it for today. Going to update the FO and Wanna Be list along with the progress bars.

3/14/05 Spring Break and 2 FOs!!!

Lookie here! I finished the Daffodil Hat for DC Tracy's baby, Teagan. This will ship out sometime this week. She isn't in need of it since it is still snowing there but glad it is off of my WannaBes list and onto the FO list. Easy and fun!

Next up is the amazing Faux Mink Shawl. Check out my helper! The dressform is one that I share with my DMIL - I bought it for her at a yard sale for $10 and she's held it captive until I begged for use of it. It does not have any feet on it so DGB had to hold it up for me. He kept telling me, "Hurry Granny - it is heavy." While I was asking him to lean it back a little to shed some light on it for the picture. Too bad I finished it after the sun had already set or the beautiful day we had would've made this looked like the great "mink" that it is. It even has the little ridges that are on real fur. It makes me happy.

Well, I started an orange/black scarf for my dear Aunt Betty. I found a small ball of this yarn which has 4 very tiny threads to it...yeah, not fun to work with. I'm on the third attempt to turn it into an amazing scarf for her. It also dawned on me that I've never made her an afghan. Shame on me. I guess I need to get plans together to make one for her for next winter. She's been amazingly good to us kids for over 40 years - it would be nice to give her something I made to tell her that I love her.

I also started on the top secret project that I'm making for my dearest cousin Ruthie. It was fun to get started on it. I will soon be updating my status bars - yeehaw! It dawned on me that not long ago I had 10 UFOs on the list - I think I'm down to 3 plus the 2 new ones. I'm getting there. I'll also have a buttload of sock yarn on its way to me today. Found a great buy through someone destashing. I'm soooo excited. Maybe I'll get time this week to clean a little of the home office.

Enjoy spring break! DD & DGS are heading to Disney World this Wednesday. They deserve a fun spring break - their turn!

3/10/05 Thursday....Almost There...

I just don't like it....the yarn that is. I love the pattern but this yarn needs some sort of help. Then again, I'm not a fan of yellow. I shoulda asked Seester if she liked this since her favorite color is yellow.....already frogged it but would redo if she likes/wants. I wonder if it would look good in the Curly Scarf pattern from Scarf Style!? Maybe that would help me to like the colors more. Not sure. This yarn may go to another home.

What am I working on, you ask? Working on not adding to my stash but coming itchingly close. I found someone on-line that is destashing and is going to give me a sneak preview. Yeah, you know I'll buy something. I also peeked at the sales on-line....no credit card usage yet. BUT, I am meeting an ex-co-worker at the NEW, yes NEW, Yarn Store. YES!!!! Yarn Store!!! Sorry all you Austinites but I've never much cared for Hill Country Weavers. I've been in there about 10 times and never even heard a "hello" from one person. Nope, I ain't spending my sheckles there. Anyway, they're opening Bluebonnet Yarn Something in Cedar Park and I'm meeting a friend there when they open the doors. Guess I need to determine what I'm wanting to buy or willling to spend. I'm hoping that this will be a fun place to hang out. Like I ever have "hang" time. Uh huh.

Knitting: I'm plugging away at the faux fur - I lied, it is 22 rows repeated 15 times. I have about 7 repeats complete so I'm pretending that I'm getting there. It is pretty and looking great so reason enough to keep moving on it. Although it has been in the 80's here. I wonder if I'll ever get a chance to wear it!? I'm also working on the Tulip hat for cousin Tracy's baby. I've got the brim and maybe another inch done.

Check this out - got this from Cousin Ruthie and I thought it was hilarious:

IF YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S...
You wore a rainbow shirt that was half-sleeves, and the rainbow went up one sleeve, across your chest, and down the other.
You made baby chocolate cakes in your Easy Bake Oven and washed them down with snow cones from your Snoopy Snow Cone Machine.
You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that  actually worked.
You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.
You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.
You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)
You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.
You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.
You had either a "bowl cut" or! "pixie," not to mention the  "Dorothy Hamil" because your Mom was sick of braiding your hair.
People sometimes thought you were a boy.
Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.
You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.
You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.
You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple  satiny shredded outfits.
You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.
You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color.
You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard  sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.
You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that  Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised  Nellie Olson!
You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink.
Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.
You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends,  Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.
You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not  plastic.
You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of  Hazzard was your boyfriend.
Every now and then "It's a Hard Knock Life" from the movie,  "Annie" will pop into your brain and you can't stop singing it the whole day.
Damn you!  YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!
It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your Mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!
You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I  marry: Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or Rick Springfield?"
You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.
You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and  Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom. Pot holders - I believe they were called "loom loopers".
You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your T-shirts!
You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your  portable tape player up to the speaker.
You couldn't wait to get the free animal poster that came when you ordered books from the Weekly Reader book club. Double score if it was a teddy bear dressed in clothing.
You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books.
You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about  aerobics You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs.
You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.
You had a Big Wheel with a brake on the side, and a Sit-n-Spin.
You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.
You spent all your allowance on smurfs and stickers for your  sticker album!

3/8/05 Tuesday - Talking the Talk

Here it is - proof is in the pudding. Two pics of the afghan and one of DD's purse. I like the way the afghan turned out. DSIL seemed pleased with it. DD liked her purse. She laughed about the pocket and cell phone pocket. I know what I like in purses.....

Guess I need to get the task bars updated! That is the exciting part. I'm working on the faux fur shawl. Having to do 15 repeats of a 15 row pattern....not digging that. The lady who did my bone scan this morning oooohed and aaaahed over it. I just want to get it knocked out so that I can wear it a few times before storing it for winter. I got to come in late since I had that appt. I'll be leaving here tomorrow for a dermatologist appt and then getting the hair did on Friday so leaving early then too! I love short days/weeks.

Words to the Wise: No one fails who does his best. No one succeeds at home at rest.

3/4/05 Happy 25th to My Baby Girl!
Isn't it amazing how fast time flies? I cannot believe my Baby Girl is 25! I hope the next 25 bring her happiness.

Well, I finished all the squares and have all but one row put together. This means that once I add the last row, I'll need to connect them in the other direction and then do the edging. Still haven't decided what edging I want to put on there. For my travel project, I decided to pick up the Faux Mink Shawl. I worked on it this morning in the car - I plan on sticking with it and knocking it out so I can wear it this winter. I better hurry cuz I hear rumblings of Spring being right around the corner.

This weekend I plan on finishing the afghan and the finishing touches on the pink, felted bag for DD. I also want to pull out all the fabric samples and consider putting them together and into some sort of throw. I have a heavy, embossed velvet fabric that would be a great backing - I think. I need to check it out. I've been trying to work the velvet into a project for a while and this dawned on me the other day. I need to see if it would look okay - must pull it out and take a gander.

Is this me or what? ->>>>

What Classic Pin-Up Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

If you think not, I can give you a list of the guys to ask. Not a pretty picture and believe me, I pay for my sins in other ways. No one leaves this earth unscathed.

So ready to relax. I knocked out my 3x/week workouts so Fatgirl can relax until Monday. I want to look into getting tires for that fabulous bike I found through freecycle. It may need some chain oiling, also. Maybe I'll have DS check it out for his old Mama. I may take up a little bike riding. Sure wouldn't hurt the fat cells.

Tonight on 3rd Watch....a grad of our department will play the part of a doctor! She worked with us one or two semesters so is a friend of mine. I can't wait to see her on TV! You go Deepti Gupta!

Words to the Wise: If you don't lie down...no one can walk on you.

3/1/05 March...Already?

Inside pockets

Drying after going for a skinny dip
Here it is - in all its glory. It turned out furrier than expected but it did well during its bath. I was worried that the pockets would shrink up more than the bag but they turned out nice. I was also concerned about how the Trendsetter Aura would react with wool and hot water. Not a problem. I was imagining having to cut the frillies off the bag and wasn't looking forward to it. Now I just have to attach the handles once it dries. It usually takes a few days to dry. Boy, the smell of this in the water was pretty bad. Even DH commented on the odor in that area of the house.

As you see on the status bar, I'm almost finished with all the squares for the crochet afghan. I have 15 squares left to go. Six large ones and nine small. Not much! I'm hoping to start putting this thing together tomorrow night. It'll probably take me all week with the border and all. I also need to find another work travel project. Maybe I'll pick up the socks I started although they are a graph project that really needs to be looked over.

Wish me luck - I have a 10 a.m. interview this morning. I need all the luck/prayers or what have you - desperately seeking another job. Maybe I need to pray to the great job gods.

Words to the Wise: Don't let lack of praise....nip you in the bud. (or as my friend Jessica says "nip you in the butt." English is her 2nd language - I can only do so much.)
