Did very little reading last night. So, what did I do all evening? Well, I had to pick up GB from school - his after school sitter was ill. That got me outta work at 1 pm. I'll do anything so that I can leave early. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to workout so I'll have to go tonight and tomorrow night. Anyway, I started the slipper sox for Sean, the teenager who adopted my brother. He was envious of the sox I made for DB Don and requested that I make him an orange or black pair. Well, I'm about 3/4 of the way through the first one. No pics so I'll have to share the results of one of the quizzes I took yesterday.

I skipped an entire day....all day yesterday I dated everything the 8th. I don't know why I insisted it was the 8th. Check out these beautiful cards I was gifted with by a professor. Melba Martinez comes to us from St. Edward's and when she was going through a depression from the loss of her niece, she started painting. She had no idea of the talent she had within her. The card stack she gave to me are printed renditions of her huge ass oil paintings. Some are 8' x 10' - can you imagine a rose that huge? Her work is in a gallery in San Marcos - I plan on getting down there before they're pulled on the 28th. For some reason, her and I hit off immediately. Weird how she had to deal with the death of her niece (car accident) and I'm learning to live with the death of my youngest brother (car accident). Melba's web site: MelbasRG.com So, what am I up to? Well - I'm onto another book: Nora by Brenda Maddox. The author's name reminds me of those yummy Maddocks brothers from high school. Oh, the memories. Anyway, I haven't a clue who Nora is but I bought it cuz a) it looked good, and b) it was my grandmother's name. I'm only to page 33 but I have learned that: a) she born/raised in Ireland, b) she runs off with James Joyce, c) James Joyce wrote Ulysses, d) I haven't a clue what Ulysses is about, d) when she was young - she liked reaching into guys pants...and... Woo-hoo! You go wild girl from the last century. Should be a good read - we'll see. I always give a book the 100 page rule - if I don't like you by page 100, you ain't worth my time. This book has already captured my attention although it is not written like a story and more like a detailed biography. Guess that was the intention of the author - don't know, I'm just the reader. Haven't even touched knitting/crocheting or any sort of needlework. However, I have been shopping. Yesterday I hit a favorite thrift store (aren't they all?) and found myself 3 bags full...one for the little boy who lives down the lane. I found about 4-5 coats for cheap - loved them, so home they came. I found myself a Scott McLintock dress for $3.50 - guess I need to find an excuse to wear a long, dressy dress. I found a pretty, framed photo of Vermont leaves in the fall. I also found a US Stamp Memorabilia matted, framed stamp and commemorative thing of Bobby Jones - you know, the golfer. I don't golf and don't care to keep this so it will end up on eBay. I also found a really pretty, still in the package - corkboard. Today I hit WalMart at lunch. I went in there for a substitute coffee pot while I mail mine back for replacement but I ended up with two pair of slippers at a buck each. A pair for big hoofed (hooved?) son and a red pair for small hoofed Mom. For $1? Whutz up? I also had to have Valentine's day kid cards for my co-workers along with sour candy bracelets for each of them. We're having Pizza (love you Jun!) that a co-worker is treating us with and each of us is to bring in a dessert for Monday. How fun is that? Fatgirl is gonna be tippin' the scales Monday night. I hope Shannon is in and can weigh me tomorrow. I'd be ashamed to weigh in after that lunch/dessert Valentine fun. Yikes! Hmmm - is that it? | |

So, this is how my weekend went. Friday I headed out of work at 1:00 p.m. and hit a few thrift stores and a book store on my way home. I left early so that I didn't have to hit rush hour traffic with the weenie tire. I found a bunch of books and two twin sheets to make a pillow/blankie for GB. This got sewed up on Saturday and went home with him that night. GB spent the night with us Friday night and we kept him Saturday while DD worked. She had to work since they had to tell the rest of the employees that the restaurant is shutting down at the end of the month. I guess the Good Lord has other plans for DD and she will get to look around and find another job - I'm hoping some hospital will scoop her up so that she can get that experience.I finished two more books: This oneSecret Affair by Barbara Taylor Bradford and this one Puerto Vallarta Squeeze by Robert James Waller I've been a reading fool. I hope to come across a really good one. Clearing the bookshelves but refilled them since I hit the thrift stores. Yesterday we had a small Super Bowl Party and made homemade chili on the fire pit outside. We sat out there around the fire while we watched the game. I enjoyed it. I was running back and forth to the computer since I found a bunch of new leads for pharmaceutical sales rep jobs while looking through DD Kelly's drug book. Found 3 openings in Austin - 2 apps I'll need to finish later since they require more attention than just submitting a resume. Hoping something will come through for me soon. Thursday 2/2/05 I'm a LOSER... |
.....I didn't get the job :-( I guess God has bigger plans for me that greatly contradict my aspirations. Makes you wonder what life will bring.Reading like a wild woman....I finished this book which was a gift from MK at work. Then I finished this book which I picked up at The Caring Place Thrift Store for a buck fifty. Now I'm reading one that was loitering on my bookshelves.... I wonder what makes people go through periods of obsession with things and then nothing!? I am always reading something but the zooming through books is not always constant. I do the same thing with knitting/crocheting projects. I have the afghan waiting patiently for some attention and the faux fur shawl gets picked up every few days. I guess the waiting to hear back on the job disrupted my life. Ahem! Nuttin' else is new. | Weekend accomplishments - I found the sweet, little bunny at a thrift store and felt bad for him. I brought him home, ironed him and found some matching fabric. I think he turned out cute and he looks happy now. Much better than hanging out in a plastic bag at a thrift store.I also found this Batman sheet at a thrift store and zipped it into 2 pillow cases and a blanket for Baby Bird. I love giving things a new lease on life. I worked on the faux fur shawl last night. Plugging away at it. I think I'm about 45% finished with it. Keep your fingers crossed that I get that great phone call today. Hoping I can soon turn in my two weeks notice and move on to bigger and what I think will be better. Come on - call me already! |

1/27/05 Thursday Update |

Where have I been you ask? Riding an emotional roller coaster. Flew to Dallas on Tuesday to have 2 face-to-face interviews for the job and now I'm playing the "wait to hear" game. Antsy is one way to put it, climbing the wall is another. I'm sooooo ready to start this new job. Ended up heading home early from work yesterday and today I'm taking off. Making myself sick is what I think I'm doing. I want to turn this nervous energy into something productive.What am I working on? Take a look at the pic! Do you see the beautiful ribs the pattern makes for this faux fur shawl? I am loving this. I need to get back to it. I didn't take it with me on the trip because of the needles. What I did take was a daffodil hat for my cousin's baby girl - unproductive after all. The pattern didn't say what yarn to start with and I assumed you start at the top and work down. Assume = wrong. Had to rip out the green and grab the yellow. Well, got that twisted and so now I have to rip back to the petals. I shoulda known not to work on something when I'm full of nerves. I also started a pair of socks that require you to read a chart. Uhhh - how many times have I ripped back? I need to sit down, without yarn and needles, and study the chart. On the first row of the chart I ended up with extra stitches so I suppose I don't understand what I'm reading. What am I going to do today with my energy? The plan involves getting some sewing accomplished. I have a pair of jeans that need a small zipper area mended. I need to repair the mattress cover I'll be handing down to DS. I will also look over the stack next to the sewing machine to see what awaits my energy. It'll be a good thing to get items cleared outta the way. The rest of the house is clean so the office is going to catch it today. I need to get it ready for my new job - think positive! I hope everyone is praying for me, thinking good thoughts, chanting, crossing everything, hoping - whatever it takes to help me land this job! Please! Please! Puuuuuuullllllleeeeeezzzzz! Job Search Onto the next step - I head to the Dallas area on Tuesday for two face-to-face interviews. Yikes! Moving closer to having a real job with green money instead of the Monopoly money I've been playing with. Cross what you got and vote for me! Alexandra Kitty Girlfriend - no improvement on the front paw except that she doesn't mind if I touch it. I need to call the vet today to see if they do Saturdays. Someone else with their hand in my pocket. Fatgirl worked out twice this week! I'm trying to get back in the swing of things. When I don't work out my back muscles get sore - that gets me heading back to the fatgirl sweat shop. Picked up the TYs and I mailed out the 5 I wanted to get into the mail. I'm heading to the post office today to get TYs to DSM and DB so they can mail their share out. Glad to have this completed - it has been hanging over me for a while. Reading I finished the book Jane Eyre. Good read - glad I forced myself through it. Now I'm working on two books. One at work - Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott. My boss bought me this book - good/easy read so far. At home I picked up some HB book from the shelf - something to do with the letters that Einstein wrote to others. Only into it by a few pages but so far, so good. Knitting Plugging away at the shawl while at work - I am on the side area where the increases are taking place to reach the back. Cool pattern. I started a pair of socks last night while we were watching the contest for the best bartender. Cool show - tricks galore. They oughta see me juggle. Ok, maybe not. I have not touched the crochet 'ghan nor the knitting lesson that I was supposed to be finishing up this week. I'm in one of those moods. Need to head to the bookstore so I can grab a book that should help me with my Tuesday interviews. While on the drag I need to hit the co-op and buy the GO HORNS wrist bands for Betty. She wants 5 of them.
