1/18/05 Tuesday...Back To School Day

Remember this? I am now working this up! I am using Moda Dea Zing in the chestnut color. I got the yarn on sale and zero shipping - okay, I guess I will make this after all! I think I'm going to love this shawl. My mink coat....hehe.

Well, I had to take Alexandra Kitty Girlfriend in to see the vet yesterday. She's been hobbling around since beating the stray cat's butt. She went nuts Saturday morning and scratched up my leg pretty good - she wanted out the door to nail the stray and I freaked her out trying to open the door. I guess she paid for that via karma since she hobbled all weekend and continues to hobble on what must be a sprain since it is not broken and I'm out $152.

I was lazy all Sunday....I still finished laundry but I mostly laid around the house. Little did I know why....we got a call at 10:00 p.m. and had to head to San Antonio to rescue DSIL from a bad boyfriend. We got home around 2 a.m. --- I had to drive her truck back to our house. Did I mention that I don't like to drive? Let alone at night, let alone when I'm sleepy. Now we have a roomy - at least for the time being.

Had my phone interview with major drug company on Saturday. The business manager who gave me a referral called me today to make sure my profile reflected the referral. How cool is this? I'm asking everyone to send prayers my way that this comes through for me.

Party at my house, on Friday, was a blast. DH & I were up until 2 a.m. - when the last of the Mohicans headed out. A friend of a friend ended up having a few too many cocktails and after she felt up DH (and boy did she!) she ended up rolling around in the grass. Friend's DH loaded her into a wheelbarrow and they rolled her around the yard. It was hilarious - even if she doesn't think so. One of the reasons I'm a lightweight in the partaking of alcoholic beverages.

1/14/05 Friday Fun Day!

Three day weekend ahead ~ wonder what I'll accomplish this weekend? The knitting class will have another lesson up on their website tomorrow - looking forward to that. Working on the granny squares is hard to do during a work break. Having to cut and start over three times gets to be a bit much.

Tonight is the Kawana party - house is ready and so am I! I need a few cocktails to finish off the week. Since we head to Chili's first - I plan on having me a few strawberry margaritas. Yum!

Saturday is what I've been looking forward to my whole life. I landed a 1/2 hour telephone interview with a renowned drug company! I go girl! It is hard to not get one's hopes up when you get a referral from a big dog in the area. I hope I have all the right answers to their questions - I think I may have to call on some help from above. I desperately want this job.

See who sits with me in the office? She is such a faithful ol' dog. At least she thinks she's a dog. If we drop anything in the kitchen, she runs over and eats it. She also greets you in the driveway when you pull up. She's the best dog I've ever known.

Have a good one and keep me in your thoughts and prayers ---- I want this job!

1/12/05 Wednesday

Lesson 1 - Complete! I finished square #2 last night and they're both blocking to a 9" square. I feel success with the lesson because I now feel comfortable with reading charts. Cabling wasn't an issue since I made a Cabler Sampler Afghan for DB Donnie a couple years ago. The afghan had the pattern written out so wasn't an issue but I didn't learn to know whether to put the cable stitches to the front or rear in order to make a certain type cable. The chart makes you figure this out. Lesson 2 is to include bobbles and odd numbered cables - or whatever they call them. I wish they would just post all the lessons because now I've got to wait until Saturday for the next lesson. Plus, I forgot to grab the crochet afghan to work on today during my breaks. Guess I'll have to find something to read.

Party time Friday and I am looking forward to it! A dear friend of Seester and I, Kawana, is having her 28th birthday and we're gonna start out at Chili's and end up at my house around the fire pit. How much more fun do you want? House is clean but I may have to drag out the *new* carpet cleaner tonight. We'll see.

A/C in my car has been out since DH changed out the alternator when I was in PA. He plugged it back in for me last night. How cool is that? I never get an easy fix so write this on the calendar.

Gosh, I'm boring! I have nothing else to add to this post. Guess I need to go and stir up some trouble so I can write about it tomorrow.

Monday 01/10/05

I'm taking an online knitting class through Needlecraft University. I'm taking this so that I can learn to read knitting charts. This green square is the result of part 1 of lesson 1. I started part 2 of lesson 1 and I'm on my 2nd repeat of the pattern. The lessons helped tremendously and I'm glad I went this route. I had to tink several times on the 2nd square before I figured out what they were trying to tell me. Proves to me that the class was not a waste of time and I am learning something.

What else did I do this weekend? Well, we had DS and DGB Friday night so we took them to breakfast Saturday morning. Then I had DS help me to get my luggage and all the Christmas decorations into the attic. I had to do all this to prep for cleaning the house on Sunday. In order to get all the laundry done I started off with two loads Friday night. The sheets on the bed are going to have to hang in there another week - I just never got to them. Tonight I need to pay bills and clean off the stack of newspapers/mail from the dining room table. I'm glad I got all the paperwork worked down to one small stack since paperwork is the hardest thing for me to keep up with. I also want to utilize the new carpet cleaner since we'll be having people over on Friday in honor of DF Kawana's birthday.

DSeester dropped by yesterday with DN and his friend. She brought me this beautiful frame so that we can honor Chad's life. I love it! It has a beautiful saying and I'm sure he would be pleased. I had a rough day/night Saturday but I worked through it. All I had to do was think about Chad and my eyes would fill with tears and I would want to lie down and sob. I shouldn't have added the two margaritas I had when we went out to dinner with DMIL/DSFIL. I'll be going today to order the Thank You notes. I'm excited about getting those printed.

Never touched the crochet afghan. I was busy working away on the class square(s) so the afghan marinated over the weekend. It looks like I'm going to have another afghan project on the horizon. DD Kelly was over on Saturday and she is wanting another afghan for her apartment. The one I made her several years ago - that she picked out pattern/color - is a granny square motif and therefor has "holes." She thought I'd have hundreds of afghans lying around the house and she'd get her pick. Uh, no. I give away the majority of the things I create and there is not a stack to choose from. I lent her my favorite - the scrap afghan. It is comfy warm although it doesn't really match any decor. Guess my fingers will be flying again. I'm sure I'll have to buy more yarn, too. I'm gonna dig through the stash first but I doubt I have anything in there to match her apartment. We'll see.

1/6/05 Thursday Progress

I finished Don's sox last night - here they are in all their glory. They're surrounded by my thrift store finds: two books and something for me to make for DSIL Missy which I got for free. I guess it was too difficult for the guy to figure out 75% off $0.91. Works for me. I've been wanting The Red Tent since it first hit bookshelves. I also found a stack of those industrial strength pant hangers so those ended up in the bag, too.

Crochet - Now I can work on knocking out the crochet afghan. I also need to still update the progress bars for my projects. Will work on that today.

Having lunch with Marc and DH - yum. Tomorrow I have to go to DFIL's GF Mary's retirement party. Good for her - I'm hatin'.

Tis all for now. Keep warm....brrrr.

1/5/05 Wednesday

With all the phone calls + having GB with me last night, didn't finish the sox but I did turn the heel. Doing the decreases so I'm on the slide home.

As you see by the pic....don't hate me for my new (to me) chocolate curtains. I found these at a thrift store yesterday. All 4 panels - $12.91. Thank you, I'll take them. I've been wanting some winter curtains in my office - for the winter, of course. These fit the bill and I got a great price. I'm happy.

I don't have anything else to post. Didn't have any life shattering things happen - just a bunch of phone calls.

1/4/05 Back to List Making...New Year = New List

I feel like world traveler. Tired and wanting to sleep, sleep, sleep. In Florida the week of the 19th, in PA from the 29th through the 2nd. The memorial service for my brother, Chad, really helped me get through all of this. It was helpful being around family and talking about all the love we have for him. Seester and I got back in to town late Sunday night and I stayed home again yesterday. No, I didn't accomplish much but I needed the day to recoup.

DH & I went out and bought a new mattress/box spring! My son continually asks me when we're getting a new bed cuz he dreams of sleeping in my bed. Guess what we have set aside for him? I know Seester wanted it but Will trumped her. We had it delivered yesterday so got my first nights sleep in it last night. Not pillowtop - it is called Plush. Hell, it even sounds better.

I'm so glad that it was not cold in PA while we were there. We were spared the frigid weather. Today it is supposed to get to 75 here in Austin. I don't necessarily mind the cold weather but when you have a limited amount of clothing with you....

Knitting - I am working on the other slipper sock for DB Donnie. I am almost finished with the cuff and should knock it out tonight if I hit it hard. I want to get them in the mail to him ASAP. Crocheting - I don't know the percentage of completion for the afghan but I have 51 of the 124 small squares completed. Not sure about the count for the large squares - which is why I don't know the % complete. If I remember, will update task bar tonight when I can count the large squares.

So, what all do I need to take care of?
1) I need to finish putting up the Christmas decorations. I was so overwhelmed yesterday that I didn't touch them. I need to take it one box at a time and it will all come together.
2) Vacuum the floors and try out the new carpet cleaner. This obviously has to follow the putting up the decorations.
3) Clean out the glasses cupboard. Packed full and needs to be freecycled.
4) Laundry - OMG, you oughta see the stack.
5) Order thank you notes for the flowers or donations we received to memorialize our brother. I'm thinking of putting his picture on the card since it didn't end up in the announcements nor in the card given out at the memorial service. I need to contact my dad/step-mom to let them know I'll be ordering the thank yous.

I guess that is all for now. I hope to have a pic of the finished slipper sox for you tomorrow. DB Donnie seemed honored that I'd be making the sox for him.

12/27/04 Monday

This is the blanket I sewed up for Logan over the weekend of the 18th - he already has a flannel pillowcase of this same fabric. I found this cotton fabric in the remnant bin while at HL and had to have it since it matches his pillowcase. I had the faux sheepskin back in the stash so knocked out another stash stuffer.

Haven't accomplished much today....cleaned the kitchen, finished the Austin puzzle and did a load of laundry. Oh yeah, plus I paid bills --- whew, what a relief. I need to get cleaned up since we're taking GB to Chunky Cheese for dinner. He'll enjoy that. He's taking his nap so he can go. Grannies are good bribers. Grandbabies will do anything for some game coins.

Trying to decide what to take to PA since it is colder than a witch's ankle. Ol' lady robe would take up half the suitcase - winter clothes are so bulky. Guess I need to investigate the closet.

Yesterday DH cooked chili over the fire pit. Gawd it was good. He also cooked Mike's dad's cornbread recipe. Way yummy. After everyone left, DH and I enjoyed the fire and cried together about losing our brothers. It is nice to have someone who understands what you're going through and is willing to cry with you over your loss. It was cleansing.
