11/1/04 November - Already? |

|
I'm enjoying the baby blanket - this will be my first knit afghan. I'm already 25% through and enjoying every stitch. Easy enough pattern to memorize but I have to keep note cards cuz I always forget if I'm on the knit 1 then lace or knit 2 then lace row. Sucks to lose your short term memory. I used to be the best - looks like I'm closing in on the worst.I'd like to make this sweater - doubt that I will but I think it is very pretty. Someone posted it on a knitlist or on their website and I liked it so thought I'd post it here to remind me. It is a Debbie Bliss Cotton sweater. Very yummy and I'm sure very pretty on the right body. Maybe after the loss of 30 more pounds I'll treat myself. Maybe by then I'll have a better paying job. Speaking of job hunting - getting real down in the mouth about the hunt. I've put in a gazillion applications and the denial letters just keep pouring in my mailbox. I need something before the school loan repayment hits + I really cut our budget tight and it is beginning to hurt. One thing I've never liked is money issues and having 20+ years admin experience and a college degree should be good for something that I apply for. I guess not. I keep feeling like something is going to come my way and I'm just being impatient. I really want to start something new in January - after the holidays and having a week + off from UT. It would be ideal. The time change has my sleeping pattern off. I woke up at 3 something this morning and it took me an hour to fall back asleep. Then I didn't want to get up at all. I guess hating where I work is part of it but this too shall pass. I guess the weather and not feeling good has me down. GOOD NEWS ON KITTY: she is toolling around really well. DH had her outside when I got home on Friday and she did a lot of yard tours over the weekend. She stumbles a little when she gets up from sleeping but her walking is almost perfect after a while. I'm so happy for her - and me, of course. | | | 10/31/04 Happy Halloween!

| Look what I started working on ~ a blanket for Kristin's new baby, Margot. I was thrilled to dig through my patterns to find something appropriate. It came down to a decision between two and I decided on this lacy, crib shawl from a 1973, 40 cent leaflet. It only involves 4 rows of pattern repeat - one of the deciding factors. It is soooo beautiful. I love the way it is turning out. I'm using a very light pink, Red Heart soft from the stash. I fell in love with this RH soft when I made DD's green afghan a year or two ago. Luscious yarn. When Herrschner's had it on sale, I scooped up several colors. It shows pattern detail well and is the ultimate in soft. My friend from work, Niki, is supposed to be heading my way today. She's wanting a bag for her dog, Larry, to help her carry his things when they go places. She says he is embarassed to be using grocery bags so she bought some fleece that has dog bones on it. I'm gonna have her dig through my fabric stash to decide on a lining. Use up the stash! Had DSIL over Friday night. We had a nice time. We watched part of Van Helsing while eating Chef Boyardee pizza and homemade french fries. After getting our bellies full, it was all we could do to stay awake. Pause and off to bed we went. DH & I watched the ending last night then plugged in Secret Window. Stupid movie and a waste of time. Then we plugged in the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre and got about 1/2 way before hitting the pit. Oh, the time change? Well, I was up before 6 thanks to that. And that was after "widing my ass back to sleep" several times. That is a little joke between DH & I. When we first started living together, he was one that likes to sleep in and one morning I was awake really early and he was wanting to sleep and snuggle. I attempted to get up and told him "I'm wide awake." He told me "Well, you just wide your ass back to sleep." I can do it a few times but I'm not much of a late sleeper. I think I have slept in until 10 a.m. one time in my life. Just can't do it. As a kid, I used to try to sleep in and miss the 12 noon mass but I just couldn't stay asleep that long. I ended up at church every Sunday. |

Slowly but surely plugging away at Bubblegum - now up to 60% complete. I don't mind squares but it always seems that they never end. I also don't mind putting them altogether - just don't like the dragging of the last half of the squares needed.
Know what this means? It means a co-worker, Kristin, had her 2nd baby (2nd girl) and I will need to pump out an afghan. Kinda looking forward to it since I haven't made a baby blanket in a while. I have scads of patterns to look through and who knows? Maybe I'll find something other than a blanket that I'll want to make. Hmmmm!? Kitty Update: Alexandra is making great strides daily. She is able to crawl in and out of her cage and she's learning how to slip and slide around on the kitchen tile. She is still making us laugh with her @ss hauling to the kitchen for her nightly num-nums. I'm thinking that this weekend will be good to let her roam free and then maybe she can continue that through next week. I'm so happy that she is recovering. Words to the Wise: The surest way to go broke is to sit around and wait for a break.

10/25/04 Tuesday, Bluesday |
Nope, haven't been slacking. Been taking care of Alexandra and plugging away at Bubblegum. I also pulled apart a ribbon top that I bought at a g. sale when we were at the coast. It was pretty easy to take apart and I love the yarn. I measured out the yarn and prior to that DS & DH had a bet going as to who could guess the yardage just by looking at the 4 balls. I think they did pretty good. Hubby came the closest because he first guessed 500 yd and then changed it to 300 yds. DS guess 637. It rang in at 400+ ---- what a difficult thing to do but they jumped out there. I know I have a pattern for a top that requires ribbon - I'll have to dig through my file folders.Feeling thin today. For lunch I ate an orange and a yogurt and then didn't eat supper after working out. Gotta keep it up if I'm wanting to get the poundage off me. Today I brought in the 2 grapefruit that a lady gave me that I fresh picked off her tree. They had to ripen on my windowsill since I picked them green and brought them home from the coast....we'll see if there is a chance of them ripening deliciously on a windowsill. You appear to be a

Alexandra Update: Getting better every day. When I got home from working out, DH had her out of the cage and she was lying on the living room floor. He said she crawled out of the cage - front legs first, right leg out and then couldn't quite get the left leg lifted out so he assisted. She way lying on the floor when I went out into the kitchen to dole out her wet food. She heard the can open and hauled @ss out there but then started sliding on the kitchen tile. DH couldn't believe his eyes and neither could I. I scooped her up since I saw her having a problem plus I know it wears her out to do all that. DH says it is good for her to get excited like that and she can see what she is capable of with her injury. Keep the good thoughts heading her way - she's recovering! I called the vet and he says she needs to remain confined for probably a week. We'll see if she can hang that long. | | | 10/23/04 Saturday - Please blow hope my way...

| I need all good thoughts sent my way. My dearest girlfriend kitty, Alexandra, is currently trying to recover from a spinal cord injury. When we got home, Thursday, from the football game - I went out to feed her and put her in the garage for the night. She always talks to me to let me know where she is and I hear this tiny meow and it is very close to where I am standing. I go out the gate and she is sitting in the dirt area and sometimes they do this if they've napped and want to act all prissy but I had a feeling... So, I called her to me and she just sat there and then she laid down. I went in and got DH cuz I wanted someone there - not only for knowledge of moving her but also if she strikes out at me cuz she's injured. He picked her up and felt around on her and no squeals of pain...so he laid her into her bed in the garage, on her back and when she flipped herself over, difficult to do and it looked like her hind, left leg was broken. In the house I went - calling the vet to see what the ER number is. Luckily I got someone at ER and in we went. After $318.75, no broken bones but an assumption of a spinal injury. Keep her cooped up for the night and take her to her vet in the a.m. Loss of work, but this precious kitty is so worth any sacrifice. I was sitting at the vet's office at 7:30 a.m. - although we didn't hit the pit until 1:00 a.m. The vet looked at her and her x-rays and gave her a spinal inflamation shot and a prescription for me to dose her with. Luckily, cats have a miraculous ability to heal from such injuries. She is to remain confined to avoid her jumping up on things but that is not a fear right now. We brought her out the living room this morning and she laid around and let us pet her. We should see improvement in 2 weeks but if 6 weeks pass and no improvement, no improvement possible. Please keep her in your love thoughts - she needs everyone pulling for her.Do you remember these candies? I have had several cravings for these recently - the ones on the bottom left? Have something similar to peanut butter in the center? I would love to find some of these! Catholic school fund-raising memories. I'm almost finished with my NETA square. Down to the final few inches and this thing will soon be blocking and drying. It is made of the "broken check" pattern which is reversible. I like it and think it will make a good addition to the afghan NETA is putting together to raffle off. Wish I could be there to see the finished product! What a nice thing to win - if I do, it will be the first wool blanket I've ever owned or had in my house. Wouldn't that be nice? Bedebadebe - that's all folks! |

10/21/04 Thursday - Football Night |

|
I think I found the perfect yarn for the knit "mink" stole vintage pattern. Yeehaw. I hope they have it in brown. I haven't looked yet. The yarn: Lana Gatto Amsterdam. I was hoping something would pop up for me. Now the hunt begins.Help for a Little Girl and Her Family It is funny how we find things....I went here Knitomatic which talked about Gillian needing a Guardian Dog. You can find info here: Precious Gillian You can donate directly or you can help by buying one of the purses being sold to raise $ for Gillian's dog. I think this is a worthwhile cause and anything you do will make lives easier - Gillian's and her family's. Tonight is football night for DS. Be there or no nachos for you. They have yummy cokes too. I'm not much of a soda drinker but I love the way their cokes taste. So, what did I work on last night? Nothing! I did update the checkbook but nothing to do with knitting/crocheting/felt stocking. I'll work on the Bubblegum Afghan some tonight - as long as my yarn holds out. I failed to update the bag last night and I doubt my yarn will hold out through the day let alone through the game. Oh well, sucks to be forgetful but I'm learning to live with it. Words to the Wise: If your dreams turn to dust...vacuum.

10/20/04 Busy @ss Wednesday |

This is one of the pics I thieved from a blog - I think it is a pic of Rhinebeck. Since I was not lucky rich enough to attend, stealing this picture made me feel a little lot better. In the next few years, I think I'm going to start die dying (yikes!) my hair to match my clothes. Whatcha think?Work is a beast! What is up with that? I think every office goes through the anusal times where they jump on everyone for everything. I know my turn is coming cuz the heat is a little much in here. Oh well, like DH always says, "They can kill me but they can't eat me." No, I don't want to know what that means but I hope it applies. The only thing I've been working on is the Bubblegum Afghan. I need to get with it on the NETA square but I haven't been home long enough to grab it. Last night DH, all the kiddos and I met over at DMIL/DFIL's house for dinner for DH's birthday....didn't leave there until 9 pm and then I hit a freecycle home to pick up clothes for DFN (Dear, Favorite Nephew.) Yeah, time enough to wash what stinks and then hop into the sack. I'm about halfway through the Celestine Prophecy book so I did read until the eyes crossed - can you say 3.25 minutes? Either way, I've updated the Bubblegum Afghan bar and I've done nothing else except considered becoming an independently wealthy woman but I just can't decide how I'm going to do that. Words to the Wise: It takes a smart man to know he's not. | | | 10/18/04 Monday After the Coast Trip

| Had a great time at the coast. We antiqued, g. saled, fished, and just plain relaxed. I found two stacks of knitting/crochet mags at one of the antique stores - one sporting this beautiful outfit made out of Icelandic Lopi. As Mom would say, "Come On!" I love my Icelandic friend, Asta, and I would never 'dis' her homeland Lopi to make something like this. I guess if I were terribly cold, I'd wear it but this would not be my ideal outfit.I got quite a few squares finished - I don't think this is the whole stack. I asked DH and he said "well, I haven't been looking for squares but I'll keep my eye open." What a doll. I balled up most of the cashmere for the scarf - what a knotty mess! I ended up cutting it and have a little left to unknot. I also balled up the wool for the 12" square I have to make and send to NETA for their afghan raffle. I've started swatching to see what I can come up with. If I have time, in between washing clothes and cleaning house, I'll take a pic of the rest of my finds. |
