10/14/04 My Friday...on a Thursday!

Yes, we have socks! I'm not sure DH will be all that proud of these - they look like clown socks to me. I think because of the stripes and then the length of them. On the first sock, I cut and joined = lots of ends to weave in - yuck. On the second sock I just twisted and carried. Both socks = lumps of yarn that run down the center of the sock on the bottom. These may soon be frog socks if they're impossible to walk in - lol. No, not funny at all but that is what I'm dealing with at this point. I just didn't want solid black socks or solid blue that isn't even a blue jean color. Live and learn - I learned about that joining crap. We'll see what the verdict brings about.

So, you ask, "What did you bring with you to work?" I answer, "This afghan that I started some time back. Remember? I made one for Paige and this one is waiting to be finished for Kalie?"

I have a few of the squares completed and this may go back to marinating but for today, this is what I'll be working on. When I cleaned up my office, I took all the project bags and hung them on the wall behind the door with a pinned on sticky note telling what is in the bag. This has really helped since I can just grab and go. There have been numerous times when I'm heading out the door and need a project to grab. The ready bags are a great idea and I'm happy I thought of this. Just like our trip tomorrow to the coast. I just finished the socks and need something(s) to go with me. All I have to do is look at my blog to see the WannaBe list or look behind the office door to see what is patiently waiting for some attention. The organized Virgo can hurt people's feelings ~ I ain't kiddin'. Another wonderful thing - I'm finding all my hooks and needles! The only ones that I really worry about are the ones I bought about 16 years ago - they were made in Germany, all matching silver hooks and come in a tapestry hook holder. When I look in there and see one missing, I have minor heart failure. They're all coming home to roost.

Nicely cool weather this a.m! I was able to wear my hooded sweater I knit for myself March of last year. Wear it with pride. Not too cold, just right. This is the third sweater I ever knit:

10/13/04 Wednesday or is it Wensday?
Trivia question: Why is it spelled (spelt?) Wed - nes - day?

Worked on the stocking last night and I'm on step 6 of 56. I didn't know if I'd like this beading, sewing, sequining but it is fun to see it come to life. I first saw these felt stockings when my DN J was going to day care at Tina's house. I loved her stockings and wouldn't have considered them if I hadn't seen hers. They're a lot of work and they look really cute hung on the wall for the holiday.

Reading: I'm reading this:

and dreaming my way through this:

There are numerous projects and recipes in this book and I've had pages flagged for years. I did try a few of the recipes - last year (I think) but I want to make the velvet, jester tree skirt; the pointy mantle scarf (already have most of the fabric in hopes); covered boxes; fleece mittens, etc. I'm thinking of fulling some wool sweaters into mittens. Anyway, this is a fun book and I will probably be adding to my Wannabe list.

Celestine Prophecy: Quite different from my normal reads, as DH put it. I have to agree. I wasn't sure if I was going to push myself to finish it but it is interesting and it is not as bad as some things I've forced myself to do. Don't ask.

Speaking of lists, I am putting the purple shorts I made for DS Will on the list of current projects in hopes that I'll remember that I only need to add the elastic to the waist. It sits there languishing and is ohhhh, so close to being a FO.

Tomorrow is my Friday and I'm looking forward to it. I need to decide what projects I want to carry with me to the coast. The socks for DH are very close to being a FO. I think I may hit these in the evening instead of the stocking so that I can get them off the list and onto the feetsies of DH. Depends cuz fat girl has to work out tonight and I rarely get time on work out nights.

Two big events: 1) DS is now a licensed driver! Makes me sad that my youngest is now - totally independent of me. I wonder if he'll make bread and milk runs? Oh yeah, it's a good thing. 2) Coworker MK comes back to work tomorrow. This is the lady whose husband passed away in August. I'm excited to have her back although we'll be losing Kay - a lady who retired the month I started here. She came back to fill in while MK was out.

10/12/04 Tuesday....Looking Toward Friday

I'm ready for my weekend at the coast! Last night I worked a little on the stocking but not much. I did decide to make this afghan - probably for my DSIL Kay. I will use a light green instead of the cream color. I put these skeins together in a bag so they're ready whenever I am. There is no hurry since she has all her things in storage - no telling when I'll pick it up but you never know cuz I'm looking forward to seeing it come to life.

How do you score? I nailed 64 of these questions:

I'd have it in a clickable link but this page is acting up on me today. Maybe it'll let me change it later. My quiz results: I guess I'm not that much of a bad girl after all....at least not very adventurous when you only rate 32% of the questions.

10/11/04 Monday

It took me almost all day Sunday to finish the Christmas 'ghan but it is finished, finished, FINISHED! Weaving ends wasn't bad - cutting the fringe and braiding was time consuming but the big bummer came when I realized I didn't have enough green or red. I had to pull out the other side and redo them since I added a lighter red to the mix and then a sparkly green - both from the stash. Not what I would've preferred but just didn't want to buy 2 more skeins for fringe when the way I did it is good enough.

Now I'm working on the applique/sequin stocking for GB which is pictured here. I worked on it again last night. This project got set aside last year because the kit didn't contain the beads in order for me to add sequins. I called the company and they shipped them out but the project was on stall from then until now. I'm on step 3 of 56 so it may be a long home project.

Picked up the sock again this morning so working me way down the foot. Feels good to be close to another FO. Wonder what will be my carry around project? Hmm, what to choose?

10/10/04 Sunday Morning

An almost FO! I have finished all the design stitches that go in between the panels and I'm now working on the fringe. I should knock this one out today.

Worked on DH's socks during the UT vs. OU football game. I'm working on the gusset decreases so this should be another FO this week. Get 'er done!

10/8/04 Friday ~ Yeehaw! + Early Out!
Sure enjoy leaving here at 12:45 p.m. - why can't they allow me to do that every day? I promise to have all my work finished by the time I leave, mother may I?

Worked on the Christmas afghan last night. I hate when I pick up a long put-off project and as I work on it I wonder why I set it aside for so long and dreaded picking it back up. This is one reason I hate setting something aside. I'm working on the design stitches that connect the panels together. I'll get a picture up over the weekend - promise! On the DH sock - I have the cuff almost completed so moving on down the foot soon. Wouldn't it be cool to have the UFOs down to one or two? I'm getting there!

Looking forward to the weekend, are you? We're gonna have a mini party for the UT vs OU game. We're gonna sit around and stare at this:

10/704 Thursday...We're Almost There!
Finished off the Acorn Hat for GB ------ the only knitting I did last night. I had to make something for the bake sale they're holding at work and I made some supper for the three of us. I worked on DH's sock during the day and have about 1/2" on the needles. I hate the first row of any project - whether it be knitting or crocheting. This first row was especially difficult and I guess I need to start loosening up on my cast on. It kills my hands and frustrates me. I need to hire someone to do the first row for me on projects.

Enough with the suspense....enjoy the pics.

And a picture of the unimpressed:

10/6/04 Wednesday

Pulled out the lone sock....remember him? I have good memories with him. I was working on this sock when the advanced media advertising class took a bus trip to Houston to make a presentation to Rubbermaid and WalMart. That was such a fun trip. Every time I look at this sock I think of that trip. I wonder if that is why I've put off finishing the set?

Guess what I received in the mail!? My diploma! Yee-haw. Now I'm gonna have to fork over the dough to buy the frame. I'll soon have it hanging it on the wall so I can admire all my hard work packed into a 12x16" frame. It'd be nice to have a good paying job as a representative of all my school struggles. Maybe some day - I guess the right one hasn't come along yet.

I finished the Acorn Hat stem last night - I only have to cut the yarn and weave in all the ends. This should be completely finished this evening if all things go according to plan.

Words to the Wise: If you have a job without aggravation, you don't really have a job.
