| I was home all weekend - can you believe it? Not that I was ever left alone for a minute - I had GB all weekend since DD had to do her clinicals. I found time to go through the stack of old patterns I won at an online auction. These two pages struck my fancy - the first cuz I thought of Queer Joe - not sure why but I guess cuz he does cool "guy" knitting and I thought he'd like these being from an old Jack Frost Sweaters Knitting Book 45 for 20 cents from 1944. The 2nd pic - wouldn't you just love to have one of these? I could see myself heading to a Christmas party wearing one of these is sable color. Oh Yeah! This is from an old Bernat book from 1960. I just have to find some of that Bernat Super Angora yarn! I just have to! |

8/23/04 Tuesday Update |
Knitting/Crocheting: Crocheting - started DH's hat last night and have most of the flat part of the top hat finished. Maybe a few more rounds and then can start the sides. Knitting - I worked on the cuff of the pink sock yesterday at lunch and then did a bead round during break this morning. Plugging away.Today is the memorial service so I'll be "out of pocket" for the entire afternoon. They're having food and drink after the service over at their house. Last night I updated: Lexi's Web Page! She's such a beauty ~ she deserves to be shown to the world. Purrrr! Really wish my family would get a life. I'm at work, on the phone, trying to reset my password so that I can work and my other line goes off. I see that it is from Florida. Sorry, can't take your call. So, my cell phone goes off. Same deal. Then work line rings again and then my cell phone. Since I'm on ignore they hear "hello?" in a not so nice voice. Fred called to see what day it is and then to laugh that he thought it was Wednesday and he was sitting there all ready to go to the doctor and he has the wrong day. Uh, do I really look that bored? 8/23/04 Monday |

Here is a pic of GB and I from the Fourth of July. Hard not to love that angel face.Guess who I met today? Huh, huh? Yep, the dawg himself was here with his wife and daughter since daughter wants to come to UT. I showed the foo' how to dance - just as I promised. I have a funny story about a Hammer song. DS was about 1 1/2 and still in diapers (must have been immediately before I started potty training) and we were waiting in the Wally World parking lot for his dad to get something. DS is standing in the backseat of the car and I smell a dirty diaper. I'm trying to reach in to grab him and he's dancing and singing "can't touch this." I didn't share the story with M.C. - don't think he'd care about how cute my son is. Work is making my CWAZY! I am way swamped and more just keeps being piled on me. Someone needs to hold my tongue for me cuz I'm gonna lose it. On Saturday, I started the 2nd sock out of the grey and black Regia yarn that I had so much trouble with. Uh, 2nd skein is just as bad so sock #1 plus the rest of the skeins went to Goodwill. Sad donation but maybe someone will be desperate enough to want something to knit. I started DD's pink/beaded socks so that I'll have a portable project to work on and I worked on it during lunch today. Co-worker Adam still begrudged me getting a lunch. Whatevew. 8/22/04 Sunday, Sunday |

Today is my baby's "Sweet 16." Happy Birthday Baby Man! We're to meet him at a restaurant tonight at 6 to help surprise him and help celebrate his birthday. Last night when I dropped him off, he called me from his new cell phone. You go Dad!Thank the Good Lord for Cousins! My cousin, Ruthie, sent me this charm bracelet which, if you can't read it, says I love knitting. I love it and I've been wanting something that proclaims my love for knitting. She sent me 6 crochet hooks, pictures, a quilt pattern and a floss holder. I'm happy that we were both born to love these type things or I'd be all alone in my love for arts & crafts. Yesterday we hopped out of bed and headed for Gruene, Texas where we hopped on tubes and floated down the river. It takes about 3 1/2 hours to get down the river and we hit 3 rapids. One of them is where the ice chest hit me in the head, breaking my hair clip. A little tender but I lived. My neck is sore today from holding up my head for that many hours. I need to find exercises to strengthen my neck muscles. They've never been the same since I hurt it from sitting at the computer with the stand that made me look up at the screen constantly. This morning I checked my work e-mail and found out that my co-worker's husband passed away Friday evening. This just made me stop everything for about a half hour and just let my feelings work themselves through. My heart goes out to my co-worker and her daughters. We'll miss you Mark!

8/18/04 Busy...Busy...Busy |

|
Who was it that said that in that squeaky voice? Work is way busy since everyone is gone - now I'm having to take over room scheduling and now they've added course scheduling. I have very little experience on the mainframe so it has been kinda funny but I'm getting it done. It just takes me longer since I sit there and say "shit, I have to do X before I can do X" and then I back track.Just finished a repeat on the shawl and it now measures 53" so only 17" to go and then I can get it off the needles. Slow going lately with so much to take care of. Finished the book "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" today. So, I started this little gem this evening. I'm off to get ready for the VodkaFest - you get to taste over 30 different vodkas from around the world. You think that'll make me crazy?

8/16/04 Monday....Good Weekend Report |
As reported, Friday evening we took Grandbaby to Chunky Cheese where he had a fun time. DH carried him to the truck, carrying his shoes, and we got down the road a ways when I realize we only have one shoe. Back we go and like a good little shoe, it is laying in the parking lot waiting for its rightful owner.Saturday was DS's football scrimmage against Liberty Hill - the weather was so nice and it didn't start getting warm until close to the end of the scrimmage. Saturday evening I went to Sullivan's with one of my longest known friends - her treat! I had a really good time with her. We shared escargot - not much flavor to it. I had the spinach salad, small New York Strip steak, and a side order of sauteed mushrooms. The spinach salad had the most delicious pecans mixed in. I have never tasted a sweeter pecan. After dinner and drinks, we walked three blocks to the Driskill Hotel and had a drink in the bar. Beautiful bar! Check out the lobby in the hotel! See the gorgeous stained glass light on the ceiling? I want to do a weekend trip with DH and enjoy all the beauty this hotel has to offer. It was a fun, relaxing time catching up with my friend. Life gets so busy ~ we rarely get a chance to see one another. This was a nice escape. When we were driving down 6th street waiting to hit the highway we decided to wrap the hair in bands, drop the top and fly home looking at the stars. This was so fun. She played her DH's jazz CDs for me and I chilled with the booze and the music. What a life. Sunday I worked on getting laundry finished and the house cleaned up. I had to do the big dusting - I can't stand lying in bed and seeing cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. The house got a once over - at least in regards to the ceiling. It really takes a good three to four days to thoroughly clean the house but I did what I could and it is presentable. Knitting you ask? Well, I did one repeat (4 rows) and that is it. With all that running around ---- not much time to hit the knitting. Tonight I have a plan of paying bills, cleaning up the office some and maybe I'll get time to knit this week. I want to get this finished off so I can move onto DH's felted top hat. Reading you ask? Well, I finished Stones from the River and I highly recommend the book. I started this book but I'm not very far into it. This should be a quick read. Words to the Wise:The higher you go in any organization of value, the better the attitude you'll find. John Maxwell

8/13/04 Friday the 13th |
Just shows to go ya.....Congratulations to my baby SEESTER X3 on Friday the 13th. She needs to start looking forward to every Friday the 13th. She got two (no, not 1 but 2) job offers today + her DH got his spraying contract returned to him. They're in the money! I'm going over there for supper on pay day. Reading: I'm about 3/4 of the way through Stones from the River and I'm really enjoying the book. It seems to get even better with each page. I thought I'd end up with more shelf space but I just picked up 3 more books from a freecycle offering: The Prophetess by Barbara Wood; River, Cross My Heart by Breena Clarke and The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. Guess I'll be bugging by the time I get through all the books I have on the shelf. I also want to start reading the book about Waller Creek that has been sitting on the shelf for years. I remembered this book when I was showing the creek to one of our new professors. Grandbaby starts big school on Monday! He's really excited although Mom, Granddad and I are apprehensive about him riding the bus and growing up so fast. The baby is starting his formal learning. Bittersweet for all involved, except him. He's not looking back on "little school." DH & I went to Baby A's for date night, last night. I had a yummy, happy hour margarita and DH had his beerses. I loved the chips/hot sauce but didn't care much for the stuffed avocado that I ordered for my meal. They took an avocado and stuffed it with (what I think) canned chicken. Zero flavor. They put a coating on it and fried it. Even the avocado wasn't very tasty. The rice wasn't too bad and DH ate the lettuce and tomato with his nachos. Live and learn. It was a nice change from Chili's food but the noise level in the place is almost nerve grating. DH thinks they pipe in the conversation to escalate the sound level. Guess to give it a party atmosphere. Oh yeah, the whole restaurant is now: Some people would say that is good but hey, I'm a smoker. Doing my work duty - I'm here for Friday. I'm so looking forward to the weekend. We're taking Grandbaby to Chunky Cheese tonight and hitting DS's scrimmage game maņana at 10 a.m. I'll have GB probably all day tomorrow since DD has her clinical and is then taking DS with her for school shopping. I hope everyone has a nice weekend. Words to the Wise: Whether you think you can or think you can't - you are right. Henry Ford

8/12/04 Working for the Circus... |

|
At our front desk, we have a bell to "ding" if the receptionist is not at her desk. So, Misty was back here talking to Gwegowy and we keep hearing the bell ding. I was putting all my stuff together to go home and when I walk toward the door, I hear the bell ding and I look ---- no one there. I peek around the corner and there is Adam smashed up against the wall like he is invisible. He never looks at me and tiptoes back to the front desk, dings the bell and tiptoes back to his hiding spot. No one responds so he lumbers up to the desk and keeps hitting the bell saying "this darn bell isn't working...hello?"So, I took off "sick" last Friday so I could head to the coast with the girls. I did the same thing two weeks ago, can't remember what I was doing. So, that is every other week being sick on Friday. I track it so that I don't set a pattern. I rarely do it but certainly don't want to get fired for setting a pattern. So, I get a voicemail yesterday from the office manager (home with her hubby) saying that she wanted to know if I'd be here this Friday since she gave Adam the day off and that she needed to know if I was going to be "sick" or something. Since Adam and I are the only ones here any longer....I was so tempted to call her back and say, "that is next week - every other Friday, get it?" But, she doesn't need my crap. Back in June I paid off my computer loan with Mr. Dell. I had autodraw on the old bank account since the idiots don't credit your account accurately with a check and I didn't like that game....I end up having to have DH call (I'm not on the account, what?) and ask them where our refund check is and when we can expect it. I knew they'd owe us cuz I mailed the payoff amount a few days prior to another autodraw. Ok, that makes it 2 months ago. What kind of late charge and interest $ would I owe if this were in reverse? Did they send me late charges or interest that they owe me? No. Will I forgive Mr. Dell if he hires me in an important, high-paying job? Yes. His debt will be forgiven. I promise. More work crap. So, I get this phone call from Karen on Tuesday asking me if I turned in my two weeks notice!? Uh, no, why? She says, "Well, they're advertising your job." "Huh?" So, she reads me the job duties and it is my job! Holy hell! I wasn't really too worried about it but it does kinda weird you out so I e-mailed MK and ask her " 'sup dawg?" and she replies with "remember us talking at beginning of summer about changing your duties...blah...blah" Uh yeah but there was no mention of you taking away my ass kissing of the bloss man. 'Sup with that homey? I don't really mind but I do like what I do (nothing) and it really kinda makes you feel funny when you see the job listed with all your duties included. Guess I'll keep showing up until they ask me not to. Worked on the shawl a little last night. I know, same as I've said before but I really don't have much to say about what I'm doing and a picture of the same thing only longer is kinda boring too. DS has his scrimmage game this Saturday - the only thing on my agenda except for babysitting for DD while she does a nursing clinical. I really want to get my office organized - including all the filing of paperwork, organizing of projects, etc. Instead of buying a vowel, can I buy some spare time? Reading: I am almost half way through Stones from the River and I'm digging this book. It is not all syrupy - it is more about Trudi discovering that we're all different in some way, her difference is just more obvious. The hard part about the book is reading about WWII and all that entailed with the townspeople. Either way, getting another book off my shelf.
