8/11/04 My apoligies...but I had to...Happy Hump Day...LOL
8/11/04 Wednesday

Ain't she a beauty? I need to get my butt to San Antonio so I can hold this sweet baby. She came into this world on Monday, August 2nd - a fast, easy birth for Mom. Jessica is very proud and happy her baby is here. I wish this baby a good and happy life.

Last night I worked on the shawl some since I was home alone. I also worked on paying bills which seems to be more of a drag than it used to be. I need to dedicate more time to it but I'm just not feeling it. Trying to kick myself out of this "after graduation" rut that I'm in but I guess it will just take time. I think if I'd land a good paying job it would work itself out.

I want to make some pumpkins hats - one for newborn baby Catherine, one for cousin Tracy's little girl and maybe one for Grandbaby. Hard to say if he'd wear it since he's now on his way to "big school" cuz he's a "big kid" now. I have plenty of orange yarn so I need to get on that soon. I have the pattern so time is the only issue. I also want to get started on the cashmere socks and scarf that I have biding their time. I guess the list just never ends.

Off to lunch with my friend Lupe. I love Vietnamese food. Yum!

8/9/04 Monday

Back safe and sound. Had a great time with the girls and even got some sun yesterday before heading home. Friday night when we got to Victoria, Seester and I hit the bar "Hungry, Thirsty" and DSIL met us there for a few brewskies. I had 3 drinks and was flying high so ordered some fried mushrooms and Seester orderd a greasy pickle cheeseburger. We made good friends with the bartender Margaret. When we got there a lady was ordering a Corona with a shot of tequila poured into the beer so guess what Seester tried? Margaret rubbed a lime over the neck of the bottle and then salted it - you bite a lime, lick the neck and then drink the beer. The motto for the night was "bite, lick and drink." When a guy walked in, Margaret asked him if he was trying the "bite, lick and drink" and he responded with "not unless you're sitting on it." We made friends with an older gentleman who entertained us with his stories. Then we headed over to SIL's to get cleaned up to head out for the night. We drank at the Forum and checked out the nice looking guy with the great @ss. DSIL said she wanted to wear it as a hat (face first) so all night we roared over that.

Saturday brought the trip to the coast, a little time on the beach, some shopping and then getting dolled up to eat. We enjoyed the inside bar while waiting an hour to get a table. Food was ok - not very tasty after DH played his joke on me of having his DF's gf answer the phone telling me DH was in the shower. I didn't recognize her voice so I had steam coming out of my ears for about 45 minutes. We were very full though and ended up back at the room for a nap before we could even consider hitting the bars. We ended up at Sharkey's and enjoyed that all we could and then hit The Salty Dog until closing time. I was way beat when we got to the room - got my shower and layed in bed watching the tube until close to 4 with Seester outside being loud with her new friends who happened to be our next door neighbors. I can't hang - even on the porch.

Today I'm having lunch with an ex coworker from the other college I worked at and graduated from ~ haven't seen her in a while and since I stood her up (unintentionally) on Thursday....

Had some great kisses for GBaby last night. It was great to be back home with my man and my grandbaby. Like I told DH, it is really nice to get away and then look forward to getting back to my life with my sweet man. I really have a lot to be thankful for - important to keep it in perspective when life gets to be a drag. I think getting away every few months is what we all need.

8/6/04 Friday! Yeehaw!

Stones From the River
Well, I started a new book ~ one from my overloaded bookshelves. It is about a girl born during WWII who is born a dwarf and her mother goes insane. Not very far into it but it was a best seller for a long time so hoping it is not a waste of my time.

Date night last night. We ended up at Chili's again - not sure where else you can go in this town. It was 110 with the heat index. We definitely wanted to be inside. Plus, it is difficult to find a place condusive to talking and having a few beers. A dry county doesn't offer many places like that. Just getting away from the house and being able to talk some with my man is all I really want. It is hard to stay for extended periods anyway since it has already been a long week - you're tired and have to get ready for the next day.

I'm home sick today. Going to get a few loads of laundry done and clean up the house some. Wanting it to not be a total wreck for DH. Seester and I are heading for the coast to meet up with DSIL and have some water fun. I've been sooo looking forward to this trip.

8/5/04 Thursday
Been trying to get out of the office all day ~ wanting to go home sick but boss man has a letter he needs sent out and he doesn't seem to be getting off his laurels to send it to me.

Well, got in some quality computer time last night. I read a lot of blgs, searched a lot of yarn auctions, drooled and dreamed about having time to do more projects.

Today, I finished this book:

I started it when I got home last night and I finished it this afternoon. Sob. It is a real tear jerker and one I couldn't put down - obviously. I've dreamed for quite a few years about having time to read some senseless fiction. What a relief to only worry about what book I'll read next.

Knitting? With computer time and reading - who had time? "Not I," said the little red hen.

8/4/04 Wednesday
'Oh playmate, come out and play with me,
And bring your dollies three,
climb up my apple tree.
Shout down my rain barrel,
Slide down my cellar door,
And we'll be jolly friends,
for ever more....

Childhood memories brought to life in the book I just finished ---> Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald ---- an Oprah's Book Club recommendation.
Now I can move onto the books that are on the NY Times Bestseller list - I have one sitting on my dining room table waiting for some attention.

So, what knitting have I worked on? In a word: none )-; When I got home last night and fired up the computer, it started making the funky fan noise again. About a week ago it did this and DH had to take it apart and blow it out. He who knows all thinks because of all the fiber (sewing, yarn, etc.) that it is exposed to in my office, the puter fan can't hang. I have to agree cuz you should see the lint I have to blow out of the sewing machine and it has a dust cover. Anyway, back to last night. I shut down the puter and after DH and I ate supper, I had him look at it. He ripped it apart and we headed down to Fry's to get a new power supply fan. After his two trips to the truck to retrieve pieces for identifying what we need and then finding someone to help us....at 9:30 last night he put it back together with the old parts. Nope, the system was designed to not accomodate anything but Dell parts. Isn't that special?

Never had a chance to knit a stitch. All I really wanted to do was sit on the puter, catch up on my e-mails and read knitting blogs. Isn't that sad? What a sad goal for a Tuesday evening. The sadder part is spending it among all the nerds at Fry's - I told DH that I bet there is test in order to work there ---- 1) Were you ridiculed in school? 2) Considered a nerd? 3) Do you wear your pants just under your chest? 4) Do you have a nasal tone to your voice?....If you answer yes to all of the above, welcome aboard! Now go out and be as unhelpful as you can be and make our customers feel as helpless as possible. You will soon have your very own "Revenge of the Nerd."

8/3/04 Check it out...
Just received my Rowan 29 magazine - fab eBay find. Outside of the terrific knitting patterns, I found a great product. Actually, pretty hilarious. Thinking of buying them and sending them out as birthday cards ~ especially to the people who laugh about my knitting/crocheting addictions. This is too fun not to poke fun - I suppose I have quite a few pictures in my pattern stash that would qualify me for making my own cards here in the US.

Onto other business, I have two pair of slacks that I want to make sweaters for. One is a lavender color and the other is a light turquoise. I think they'd be smashing with the right color sweater. I just keep adding to the list.

Looking forward to my girl's coast trip. I hope to start packing soon - make it even more real for me.

8/1/04 Sunday

Here she is....measuring 34" and going for 79". I'm almost through with the original two skeins which is good news since I wondered if I could make this with 3 of each color and I can!

You ask, "What is that book doing on top of the shawl?" I answer, "That is my bargain find of the day." I found that book at The Book Exchange in Round Rock for $7.50. I want to collect all of EZ's books and I lucked into finding this one.

I found some more work clothes yesterday. DD, DS, DGB & I hit Bealls yesterday and they have a nice sale going on plus I had a $10 birthday gift from Bealls. I found a few blouses and a couple pair of slacks for a good price. I've mostly been coming up with skirts or pants and very few blouses that I like. Since I'm finally into size 12 pants, hopefully the top half will soon quit showing the back bulges and I'll start liking different tops I try on. Gotta keep on working out!

DC Chrissy landed her a job with Merck. She heads to Atlanta on the 30th for two week at a time training. I'm soooo jealous. I wish I was on that boat + her territory is NW Ohio - ohhhh, what I'd give. I wonder if they have any NE Ohio openings which would get me up north to visit my family while still living where I want to live!? What a dream job. Maybe someday. I hope this job will give her some pull for me. That'd be cool.

I have my interview at the paper tomorrow and I still need to buy a blouse and pantyho. I found shoes yesterday so that is off the list.

We had a boy slumber party last night. DN, DS & DGB spent the night and will soon be heading out on a fishing trip with DH. I had 3 margaritas and dragged my @ss to bed at 10 last night. DGB ended up between us at 3:30 a.m. - ice cube man. He wouldn't let me put a shirt on him last night so he only had a pull-up on and was pretty chilly. Birdman was snug in his bed next to us. All was right in the world.

I get to clean up this place while they're out fishing. I have to finish laundry and pay bills, too. Get ready for another wonderful work week.
