7/31/04 Saturday

See why I couldn't pass this up? I know that I need to get cracking on my stash but for $1.99, this had to go home with me. Too luscious to sit on the shelf at the thrift store.

7/30/04
Dang....almost August which means birfdays for DS & I. Yikes...moving through my 40's. Is that legal?

Thought this was interesting:

You're Texas!
You aren't really much of your own person, but everyone around you wishes you'd go away, so you might as well be independent.  You're sort of loud-mouthed and abrasive, but you do have a fair amount of power.  You like big trucks, big cattle, and big oil rigs.  And sometimes you really smell.  But it's not all bad, you're big enough to have some soft spots somewhere in all that redneck madness.
Take the Country Quiz at the Blue Pyramid

How lucky can a girl get to be planted where she belongs? I've tried to tell the world "this is home, sweet, home."

Found me some beautimus outfits today at lunch. I hit the mall (dumbass forgot to use her 15% off coupons) and found a pastel pink suit, a pair of tan pants and a black, floral, linen jacket. Now I need a dress shirt and shoes for the pink suit - then I'll be set for the Monday interview. I also made up a list of questions I'll have for the dude, dawg, foo' 'Sup foo'?

Hmm, anything else going on? Not much really. I knit probably 2 repeats on the shawl and then hubster said he was ready to hit the sack. Since I've had a difficult time peeling my cellulite from the sheets...why not? Looking forward to not hearing a blaring alarm in the a.m.

7/30/04 Eeeks~Yikes!!!
Ok, so I get home last night around 6:30 p.m. Not dark, still a few hours of daylight left and still 90 sum degrees. This a.m., I leave the house around 6:30 a.m. Prior to leaving, I haul out all my bags, purse, etc. and start the car. I go back in the house to make a cup of coffee, turn up the A/C, kiss DH bye and then head back out to leave. I get in the car, put on the seat belts, roll down the window, grab a smoke and haul ass to work. I get on the major thorough fare that is 2 blocks from the house and I hear this flapping near my right shoulder. Remember - window open and I'm driving 60 mph. The flapping thing gets its bearing and zooms in front of my face but slow enough that I have to lean back into my seat to let him get by. Eeeeeks - a bat. I survived and I didn't lose my sh*t. I call it successful but where the *$@! did he come from? Did he fly in when I started the car, was he on my person? Oh, please don't make me think about it.

Maybe Mr. Bat was good luck - I got a call for an interview for Monday! I'm not getting my hopes up until I hear: 1) $buckolas$, b) job description which correlates to #1, 3) hours which correlates to #1, 4) parking, office/cubicle, 5) everything else that doesn't fall into the other categories. Just getting a call and interviewing is getting the ball rolling but I don't want to take something that a) doesn't help me land a better job with more of #1 or b) isn't something I want to do for the rest of my life. I do know that this job has a base salary plus bonus. I'll know more on Monday.

Knitting:I think I'm almost halfway finished with the shawl. I do 4 rows at a stretch since that is the pattern and it is easiest for my brain-dead @ss to remember it that way. I want to get moving on DH's stovepipe hat - that is something I may start this weekend. I have a purse and socks that I want to make for DD - I need to update my to-do list on this page. I also want to make sweaters that will nicely match the new skirts I've purchased at the thrift stores. You know, sweaters that will make me look young and skinny. Huh.

What else? Oh, date night. That's tonight and I'm looking forward to it and a few beerskies. I need to loosen up. Haven't a clue what we'll be doing. Don't care. Just looking forward to doing it.

7/26/04 Word of the day: Pomprint
In case you don't know the word of the day, that is grandbaby's word for "apartment." When DD, DGB & I pulled up at the townhomes that she is considering moving into....he asked DD if this is their new "pomprint."

Reading: I've done some reading for pleasure! While at the hospital with DSF on Friday, I started A Pilot's Wife and finished it on Saturday. Shallow reading, not much thinking involved and some areas easily skipped. I love that kind of reading and other days I'm ready for something a litte deeper. Right after that I started reading Fall On Your Knees which is another Oprah's Book Club Selection. I'm about a third through the book and I like it. It is an interesting read.

Knitting: I'm almost 1/3 through with the shawl. I have 21" on the needles. It is turning out pretty and it looks like it is made of chenille because of the way the two greens meld.
I received the Pumpkin Hat pattern in the mail on Thursday. I'm planning on using up some of my leftover stash orange and make a few of these for the little ones in my life.
I dismantled most of a yard sale sweater over the weekend. I have a load of purple, cotton yarn - this may go towards a tank for me. I have a huge box of sweaters that need dismantling but after this first one, I'm wondering why I thought I wanted to do this. The yarn is nice but what a pain.

I did some cooking and baking over the weekend! I baked banana bread from three frozen bananas, I cooked a pasta/chicken/sun-dried tomatoes/alfredo sauce dish, and I baked brownies. All were very yummy. When DD & I were at the mall yesterday, I saw this pic of a cherry pie (which is not something that I like) in the window of the Williams Sonoma store. It was like 9 cherries deep and looked "oh, so tasty." DD said, "You don't even like cherries." Yeah, but I want a bite of that! The jar of pie filling is $18 and looks well worth the $. Speaking of money, I spent of $100 on makeup yesterday and DD spent almost $70. We finally bought the Mac makeup that a makeup artist recommend that I invest in. I have it on the face today ~ so far, so good. I think it will be worth the $.

Speaking of the mall - DD and I did a quick pass through the Pottery Barn. It is horrible for me to even walk into stores such as this. I know better. I was having seizures all over the store. I had to hurry and get out of there. I told DD that when their catalog comes in, I sit down and fill out the order form with everything that I want and then I promptly through it all in the trash. Cheapest shopping trip there is and I feel a sense of satisfaction after I'm finished.

DB Donnie called me yesterday - this was the return call following the "Hello Game" he wanted to play after waking me Friday night. Well, he's still really good at the games. He called my cell phone since I was at the grocery store. You know how your cell phone goes in and out so talking is delayed? He was pretending that my phone was doing that and he was delaying his speech after everything I said. I busted him on it. Here I am worried that my phone is going to crap out. Well, it did eventually cuz it really doesn't like interrupting my enjoyment of the music at the grocery store, so signal fades and I get to go humming/singing through the store uninterrupted. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who enjoys all the oldies that the grocery store plays. They should start selling their CDs in the store - they'd make a killing.

7/24/04 Saturday ~ Where has the month gone?

Here is the shawl I'm making ~ it is with two strands and should measure 20" x 79". It might end up being wider since I wanted to have this many cables and so many st st between the cables. I think it is turning out pretty. It may go to Seester - if she likes the color. I think it will be nice to throw around your shoulders instead of a coat or jacket.

Yesterday was super busy for me and I dropped into bed. The phone rang at 10:30 p.m. with DB wanting to play the hello game. I almost hung up on him since I was too tired to play. Luckily he stopped the game and told me he'd call me today. Anyway ~ I had to be at my DMIL's house so that we could follow her to the hospital for her DH to have a look/see at his heart. He's been pretty ill so I wanted to be there in case something happened. They were trying to determine if he needed a stint or not. Guess not, he got a pat on the butt and sent home. After that I had to head to the dentist for my 6 month cleaning. All is well in this mouth of mine. After that I hit this store that had all their new, hardbacks for 75% off. I found about 5 knitting books but I didn't bring any home. I also hit the new Michael's (relocated) store and came home from there empty handed. I found the beads that I need for the other sock but they wanted 2.99 and I know I paid 88 cents at Hobby Lobby. A good excuse to get back to HL. Then I went and worked out. I've been a good girl the past two weeks and hit the work outs 3x/week. I've got to get this weight off so I can wear normal sized clothes.

Hit g. sales with DD this a.m. and now she's off to get a tetanus shot for DGS since he stepped on a rusty upholstery tack. I couldn't bring myself to go with them and I need to get this sty picked up some. I found a cool butler's table at a g. sale which I think is made from teak. It collapses and I think will be nice for parties. A bought a few other things - potpourri electric pot, pjs, a laundry sign, a black coverup type sweater and a Price Pfister bathroom faucet that I don't need so will try to sell on eBay. It is silver and I prefer gold or a mixture. After DD gets finished at the dr. we are to go see the townhome she is thinking of moving into. We'll see.

Guess that is all ~ I gotta get more of the house cleaned before she gets here.

7/21/04 Wednesday Woo-Hoos

FO ~ The scarf is finished! I do need to weave in the three ends but this thing is ready to go home with DD. Can you see the two cables going up the center? This fabric has a beautiful drape and hand. Still trying to decide what to work on next. I think I will figure out what portable project I can move on with plus finish off the Christmas afghan. A few weeks ago I broke down and bought another skein of gold so that I can finish the afghan the way the pattern says ~ whether or not my family likes that finish.

Going to lunch with ol' friend from the City - Lupe. I haven't seen her in a long time - with school invading my every waking moment, didn't have time for anyone. Now that I'm free, I'll get to hug her neck.

Trying to decide whether or not I want to go to the knitting meetup tonight. Of course, I want to go but 7 p.m. really hurts. Although, DS wants me to pick him up at 9 so it would work out but I do have to pick up DGB after work and I need to work out again today. "Push up your hump," as Seester says.

Word to the Wise: All glory comes from daring to begin.

7/20/04 Tuesday
Almost finished with DD's scarf. One ball of Trendsetter Aura ~ yeehaw! I have a fairly small ball left so I may be able to finish this up tonight.

I'm wearing one of my new skirts today. Thank goodness for thrift stores. I love this skirt. I ironed one of the other ones - this one will be great for the coast trip also. I need to find a sweater pattern for the lavender suede skirt I bought. It is way yummy and deserves to have a great match for the top half of the body. Oh, the Coldwater Creek slacks fit nicely. I'm looking forward to the fall/winter so I can wear these slacks. That is two Coldwater Creek outfits for me - garage sale and thrift store deals.

I found three jobs this morning that have excellent starting salaries. I threw my name in the hat this morning ~ cross your toes that I hear something. I need to get more money coming in the house. I'm still looking for the great pay, stay at home position. I'll let you know if I find it.

DS and I hit WalMart on the way home yesterday and snagged him a new bicycle. Mr. Jock Strap rides several miles a day when he's not at football practice. Poor thing was humping it on my tired bicycle. He was up and at it at 6 a.m. - excited cuz of his new bike. I think it will serve him much better. He deserves it.

Word to the Wise:Greet the dawn with enthusiasm and you may expect satisfaction at sunset.

7/19/04 Thrift Store Goodness
They opened a huge ass (hmmm, looks familiar) thrift store close to where the JoAnn's was that I frequented often during lunch. I hit that today and came away with some fabo skirts, brand spanking new throw pillows and some dickies. I also picked up a hooded, over the head UT sweatshirt with the front kangaroo pouch. I can't wait to sport one of my new skirts tomorrow. I also snagged a pair of black Coldwater Creek slacks. If they don't fit me they will go to seester or onto eBay. I think they're linen. Either way, they're beauts and way worth the thrift store price. Look like they've never been worn.

Back at work and wishing I'd called in sick. I had to come in cuz: a) now there are only 2 of us in the office, b) I had to put a tracer on the FedX package I sent to Costa Rica. Glad I did cuz it passed customs on Saturday and it was easy to reroute. Phew!

Slowly but Shirley getting this cubicle cleaned up. In between reading knitting blogs of course. MK is officially at home full-time now and they're bringing in a lady who retired right after I got here 2 years ago. I guess MK's hubby isn't doing too well. She did say that his brain is starting to misfire and she has to remind him to shower and brush his teeth. In a way it is nice to have time to get your affairs in order but I really don't want to have my family watch my deterioration. She tells me that she is holding up good on the outside but she is being eaten up on the inside. This is heartbreaking to watch.

On the upside, we've got the girl's coast trip scheduled for August 6-8. I can't wait. I've needed a coast trip for some time now and I'm gonna enjoy showing seester all the fun times we have at the coast. With just us three girls, I'm sure we'll be having us some nasty fun.
