7/18/04 Finished Object! |

|
After DSIL & DMIL left, I remembered that I've been wanting to make some bed caddies. Here is the first one! This is made from the fabric samples I saved from the dumpster at work. I can't wait until the bed linens are finished washing/drying so I can get this set up for use. What fun and super easy to sew.

I frogged the scarf and made it less wide. Here is an update of my progress. I like it much better. The pattern is: Row 1: K, Row 2: P, Row 3: K10, P1, 6CF, P1, 6CB, P1, K10, Row 4: P. Went to the two parties. Had a nice time at the casino party and had about 4 frozen margaritas. Yummy margarita machine. I had to stay pretty close to DH since there was a weirdo that wouldn't leave me alone. He even stood over by the table DH & I were standing at. Strange bird. They gave us each a $10K chip and DH didn't even break mine so when we left we gave Debbie's SIL all our chips. We had to get back since my DMIL had my DS and we didn't want to keep her up too late. My SIL and DN had just gotten back from getting tatoos. SIL got a cherry with hearts above the toes on her right foot. DN got a scary pumpkin on her right, inside ankle. I got to see the cherry this a.m. when DSIL and DMIL came out to go through my bag of fabric samples. They took home a nice size paper bag of goodies. All is good in the world.

Ain't she a beaut? This is the scarf I am making for DD out of Trendsetter Aura. I love the color. The cable is visible in this picture which I'm thankful. The cable is kind of hidden until it gets a bit longer. I wonder if I'm gonna need a few more balls of yarn. It doesn't seem like the two balls will make a longe enough scarf. I may have to e-mail my eBay seller to be sure I have some on hold. Yikes!Have a busy day ahead of me. I have a 5:00 p.m. birthday party for DSIL & DN today and then a 7:30 p.m. casino party to attend. The casino party is for my friend's mother. It should be fun. I may run to Beall's and buy myself a new dress for the occasion. DD & DS just got back from Six Flags. They had a good time. I'm so glad that they're now old enough to go without me. Of course I'm not left out completely since I get to watch GBaby while they go. I was dragging ass last night so they came in and woke me to tell me they were home. I like for them to do that so I can sleep better instead of worrying about them on the road. I cut out and sewed most of my skirt only to find that I'll need to drop major poundage in order to wear it. I bought the correct size and haven't a clue why it won't go over my thighs let alone around my waist. I snipped out the darts and that didn't help much. Guess this will be a goal. Sad.

7/16/04 Great News! |
So, I'm waiting for my lunch date at the front desk and I decide to skim through "On Campus" newspaper and on the front page I see where the university has extended the staff educational benefit to include the summer. This means that they will pay for one of my classes. Problem: I've already paid, already taken the classes and it is too late to apply. Hmmm, so I call HR and they give me the ok! They are going to reimburse me for one of my classes. Get this, the deadline to apply was YESTERDAY. Does this sound like my luck or what? I'm so glad they're not making me jump through a bunch of hoops. I will pay off a bill with this $$$. Yeehaw!Knitting Update: I started on the Trendsetter Pink Aura scarf for DD. I've drooled over the gold scarf at the LYS and now that I have 4 skeins of yarn (the other two in navy) ------ I have 6 rows on the needles and I'm plugging away. The scarf at the LYS has two cables going up either side so I'm trying to fudge with a pattern from my head. If it doesn't work out, I'll be frogging but I think this will work. The yarn is way yummy. I've been drooling through the Woodland Woolworks catalog and I'm thinking of making at least one of the Holly Cable Shawl. I'm thinking of making my own design based on the picture and using a different cable. I need to dig through the stash and see what I have that I can use. I know I have way too much pastel yarn that won't work but really haven't a clue what else is in the stash. The catalog also has a beautiful purple afghan that looks super cinchy to duplicate. Both of these patterns are from Jo Sharp, who I think is my favorite designer. I'll end up buying all her books anyway so I don't feel bad about copying her ideas. She'll get her money out me I'm sure and it won't take a beating...I'll give it up willingly. When I found her book at Half Price Books, I knew it looked familiar. I've had this page in Woodland dogeared for some time now cuz I like her style. I also see a Mohair throw that I might make with all that mohair I won from Wendy Knits. I hadn't a clue but I don't think I'd like a sweater or anything but a throw....ummmm, luscious! Plus the beauty of it all and sharing in the beauty - oh yeah. | | | | 7/14/04 Major Purchase! Hanne Falkenberg!!!

| Look what I ordered! I've been wanting this kit for oh, so long....and I ordered it last night. Like I need another project or more yarn or another kit. After DH ordered his new airplane, I felt I deserve to order something too. Here she is - two pics for your viewing pleasure.Found me some bargains at Half Price Books yesterday. Two cool ass books - one is Jo Sharp Desert Knitter Summer Collection and the other is Poems of Color about Bohus Strickning Knitting in Sweden. The first book has some nice sweater patterns - originally $16 and I paid $7.98....the latter is a book about a type of pattern designed during the depression in Sweden during WWII. It is a cool story with some beautiful sweater patterns. I'm enjoying the read and found a green and black sweater I want to make. Yum! Yesterday I stopped by the LYS to get me some sense of touch goodness. I would like a set of each please. The baby camel yarn is way luscious. I may find a pattern to make using some of that but I'll need to find a better price than $18 for a small hank. It is very soft and makes me want to roll around in a bed full of it. Today we're having a going away party at work for Gabriel. He's retiring after 27 years of service and he's taking a job with the National Guard. Lucky him - double dipping. When he leaves, there will only be us two golden haired children. I guess we've done our job and run everyone off. Word to the Wise:Temptation comes easy, opportunity takes longer. |

7/14/04 Dumpster Diving Expedition |
Here I am, out by the loading dock smoking a cig and I notice all this fabric in the dumpster. Not just any fabric but supremo, first class shit that you don't find in the regular fabric stores. Since I was at work it was running through my head that: 1) am I allowed to dig this out of the dumpster? 2) will I be fired for doing so? 3) maybe I'll just have to risk it cuz I can't let this go into the trash. I grabbed a box that I could carry and headed back to my office. When I got there, I called MK and asked if I could be fired if I unload the dumpster of its goodies. She told me to get with it! She was as excited as I was. She wanted me to take it all home but I'd have to have another room just for all this fabric. I took a huge trash bag for me and I loaded up the dolly and she picked it up this a.m. What a find! Maybe I'll post a pic for your viewing pleasure.Well, I didn't finish the socks cuz I did other things around the house last night. I did a little knitting but nothing substantial. The TV guy was there returning the repaired TV guts....$700 later he was out the door. DH is talking with Mitsubishi about some sort of reimbursement. I unpacked all my Hobby Lobby goodies and basically tried to stay out of the way. Hubby and I made up the ice cream that we chilled the night before. Should be edible tonight. Damn, 2 days of preparation and able to eat it on the 3rd night. Another bargain - yesterday I hit Central Market cuz I had a "get two pounds chicken breast free" coupon and a letter for a free CM canvas bag. Incentive enough for me! I think I ended up with $30 of free stuff. Way worth a grocery store lunch excursion. Tonight DH and I will make the steak I bought and I stuck the chicken in a bag of marinade and threw it in the freezer. That can be had any time. Wonder what bargains I'll turn up today at lunch!? I put in several job apps yesterday ~ hoping to get a few nibbles. Sure will be nice to have more $ coming in the door. Wanting to get bills paid off then have DH quit his job and be my little houseb*tch. Wouldn't that be great? Word to the Wise:Wisdom is what's left over after we smarten up.

7/13/04 Tuesday |
I worked on the sock some....doing the gusset decreases so should be home free tonight or tomorrow. There are some household duties that I want to tend to so not sure how much I'll get to work on tonight.I hit some good sales yesterday. I headed over to Hancock Fabric cuz I had the 25% off coupon from the net (which I failed to use.) I bought some fabric for a skirt and found some Aunt Lydia's Denim Cotton for 1/2 price. After that I headed over to Hobby Lobby - bad decision yet good deal. They had 80% off two aisles of home decor. I bought a buttload of candles, 2 large ceramic trays, solid glass picture frames....everything was way cheap. I also picked up two skeins of pink sock yarn since DD wants me to make her a pair of beaded socks in pink. They were having a 1/2 off knitting/crochet accessories so I picked up some more dpns and a couple straights to further round out my collection. In the quilting/sewing area they're having a 1/3 off sale so I grabbed some machine needles and the largest cutting board they had. $99.12 later....I was helping her wrap up my purchases. I probably had a good $500 worth in my trunk when it was all said and done. I haven't had time to look through my stuff and put it away. It is stuck in the corner of my dining room. Guess I am savoring the joy of unwrapping the bargains. Wonder what I'll uncover today!? Wow - found a beautiful jacket that I wanna make. I love the stitch definition and it looks like it'll knit up quick. It is made of chunky wool and the pattern is in one of the mags I have next to the bed at home. I lie in bed in the evenings with my eyes crossed....since I get ga-ga the more tired I get....and I sit and look at pictures until I wake up to turn off the light. I need to order the yarn for this and the celtic knot sweater. Two large projects on the horizon! Oh, the afghan that went to my co-worker's hubby? I'm told it is used on a daily basis. With him dealing with the cancer that is slowly tearing him apart, he is going through fevers and chills so the afghan is coming in very handy for him. I'm glad that I could make him something to keep him warm during his last days on this earth. Sad but heartwarming at the same time.
