6/25/04 An FO sighting...

I didn't hang around work long enough to get the pics up. I was only at work until 9:30 then off to class, team meeting, meet with the prof and then pick up DS, GS, drop off the UPS box which returns the hand crank ice cream maker. Of course, we had to go by BlockPuster and get games then on to HEB to pick up whipping cream to make ice cream. Whew! Haven't had time to breathe but I did turn the heel and all the decreases are finished. I'm on the "continue until length measures 9" - as you know, my favorite part. NOT! I've got DGB until daughter gets here and I also have DN J until tomorrow at noon. He's fun to have around and I love getting time with him. He'll be grown and gone before I know it and then I'll be wishing for sweet birdie kisses.

I guess I should figure out supper plans - it is 7 p.m. here.

6/24/04 Date divisible by 2
Did you know there is a beer consumption limit at Hooters? I found it hilarious when DH called around 7:30 and said he was on his way home. He posed this question to me and all we could do is laugh. No, his tolerance is not 6 beers - nowhere (is that one word?) close. I understand their reasoning though and was glad to have him home early.

We received our primo expensive ice cream maker. I'm looking forward to using it. They originally sent me a hand crank model cuz I'm a dummy and that is what I bought. I e-mailed them asking if I could exchange since I'm too old to be hand cranking. It has been almost two weeks but they made good on their promise of a sticker to pay for return shipping and the shipment of the electric model. GB was thrilled and ready to make some ice cream. As soon as DH walked in the door, GB told him "We finally got the right ice cream maker. Wanna see?" He's psyched.

I only have a few more rows on the cell sock so I guess a progression picture is not an option. It'll be finished this evening so I'll have a pic for tomorrow. I'm ready to move onto the slippers or socks or whatever else strikes my fancy.

6/23/04 Closing in on....
the end of semester. Luckily it can only get hairy for the next two weeks. Then I'm free.

Knitting Update - worked on the cell sock for a while last night. I'm about 80% finished. I got tired of it after 20 or so rows and pulled out the Knitty slippers for Mom. I started getting disgusted with them when I started thinking that maybe I shoulda double stranded. I'm okay with them now so it should be down hill from now. The 3" cuff is killer - not sure why I hate when the pattern has to be continued forever...or what seems to be forever.

Found some cool ass envelopes for my resume. I bought them in maroon and also picked up some silver "M" stickers for the envelope closure. We'll see what prof has to say but I like the look. I hope she likes it and then I'll feel more comfortable to throw the resume out there to see what bites I get. I hear that Austin is the worst place for grads right now. Yeah, yeah.

I have a question - how can a hair be brown on the top and white on the bottom? This is not the first time I've pulled out a hair that looks like this. I swear that the hair magically turns grey but from the bottom up?

DH is doing a drinking marathon tonight with his old boss. Old? Well, I mean last boss. They'll be doing Hooter's which I guess is okay but not what I'd choose. I suppose it has a nice view with less of a cost. Changed my mind - yeah, I'd do Hooter's.

Our Family Tree
6/22/04 Late night with...
UT. I'll be here until at least 8 p.m. - another video night. 12 more days of school.

Knitting Update: I am about 1/2 way through with the cell sock. I'm almost addicted to finishing it and it is going really fast. The white cotton gets dirty easily but since this is recycled yarn...I still feel good about it. This project involves twisted knitting stitches which is a first for me to be able to see the results in a pattern. I hope to post a pic prior to finishing. Depends since I'll have time before video time. I also need to hit the Knitty slippers for Mom.

6/21/04 Ta-Da Monday

Here it is! All finished. It ended up being 72" long instead of the 54" called for in the pattern. I have a nice sized ball of each color left - close enough for government work. I've decided to not send this one off to Chicago. I am going to give it to my co-work whose husband is dying from cancer. Although today is the first day of summer, I think he may put it to good use when he is not feeling up to snuff. I'll have to make another for my friend in Chicago but I think it is a good decision. I'll be washing this 'ghan tonight.

I cast on for Roi's Cell Sock with the white cotton yarn I have from a frogged commercial sweater. I love cables and I thought this would be a fun, portable project. I also put together the yarn and beads for Sour Apple Socks and have those in the bag. I will be making them out of black/grey Regia sock yarn with either red or pink beads. Haven't decided which ones yet.

Two more weeks and my cousin will be here. Yeehaw!

Oh, I must confess. I pulled a stupid person move yesterday. Did something that I hate. Head down in shame -> I went to the grocery store and to the deli...ordered and when she said "we're out of that" I replied with "all out, you have none?" As soon as I said it I felt the blood rush to my face. I guess I need to lighten up on others since, I too, am a moron.

Off to class. I'll post the links to the above patterns later.

6/19/04 Oh, It's Saturday, It's Saturday...

Here is an update on the Sharon Ross blanket. After I reached the required 43" I decided to continue since I have 3 more skeins of ugly. I will stop working on the center when I only have 1 skein of ugly remaining. It reminds me of my before/after hair and makeup transformation. If you saw me straight out of the sack and then after doing my hair and makeup...yeah, looks like this yarn before/after. I'm glad it is turning out pretty. My son thinks it is pretty also so there are two thumbs up from the men.

Did well at saling this a.m. After I visited one and was getting into my car, this lady gets out of her car from across the street and tells me that it is her g. sale and how much did "he" sell the brass wall coat rack for? I knew he was in for an ass chewing and I wish I hadn't answered....$1. I got the hell out of there. At that same sale I found two shoe forms from the '60's - one for a high heel and one for a baby shoe. Ummm, $2 total. She'll think twice about not putting tags on things.

I stopped by Hobby Lobby on the way home since I needed two more sizes of dpns. Found one of the sizes on clearance so bought both sets left. Also found and this fabulous book marked down to $14.82 from $22.46. I know I could probably find it cheaper online somewhere but knew I probaby wouldn't buy it. I also found an Annie's Attic Knit Summer Tops booklet - I've been wanting to knit up some summer tops for me and they have some cute patterns in this pamphlet.

Unfortunately, my morning was filled with stupid people. At one sale, my total came to $7.25 so I gave the lady a twenty. I could tell what she was doing after I saw her pull out one quarter...trying to give me $7.25 in change. After I corrected her, twice, she still tried to only give me one quarter. At HL, the lady failed to see any of the sale tags. Makes me want to scream "now I have to wait for a manager cuz you're a dumb azz." There should be two lines in this world...a little sense and no sense. I seem to pick the wrong line every time.

I started the Knitty felted slippers last night. These will be my portable project. I am making them from the leaf sweater I bought off eBay. It was a half finished sweater that I got a great deal on and I knew I'd never wear....out it comes and into slippers it will go. This will be a trial for me since I don't know how this yarn will felt or how thick they'll be. Since I have a lot of red, I figured I'd make some for my dear Mom and see if she likes them. I'll have to put the slip guard on the bottom - haven't tried that yet so the whole thing will be one big experiment.

Oh yeah ~ what is up with the Old Maid in the card games I picked up at a sale? Huh? The Old Maid knits? I'm no where close to being an Old Maid...Old Hag, yeah but I'm no Maid ~ on second thought, what kinda maid we talkin' 'bout? By the looks of this house, I am the maid. And I'm old. Seester? There is Maid Molly in there for you, too. Guess they wanted to depict the two of us. I have cards to post if we want to prove a point to the guys. The knitting maid is blonde so you better be picking up them needles soon, you hear me? Another subscription to Southern Living if you don't listen.

K- I'm off since I'm alone and wanting to enjoy it. Toodle Loo

I'm 37 inches into the afghan - I have to get to 43" and then I start working on the end area. The rows are flying. Unfortunately, I had to stop and pick up more of the blue yarn. Fortunately, it is RH no dye lot. I just hated having to buy more yarn to get rid of stash yarn...in a way it is a good thing because I don't think I'll be left with any of the ugly yarn. I think the ugly yarn ended up looking really good in this pattern and matches up nicely with the blue I chose. DH actually likes this afghan so I'll have to find him something similar for the knitted afghan he wants. He doesn't want it to be a solid. He says it is too much of one color when you make a solid colored afghan. Ok, whatever you say Mr. Color.

I had a 1 o'clock meeting with my campaigns group so I sat in the computer lab with them and crocheted while giving my input. The girls were fascinated and kept telling me to slow down so they could see what I was doing. Next up, I plan on finishing the fringe on the Christmas 'ghan. I bought the skein of yarn to do that. I will need to figure out what portable project I want for work/school since carrying around an afghan is a bit much - especially in the summer. I was really pushing it by carrying the Sharon Ross 'ghan. I think she'll like it - wondering if I should even mail it during the heat of the summer. I may wait until September. We'll see.

Two more weeks and my cousin lands! Yeehaw. This also means that the semester is almost over. I'm soooo looking forward to it. I need to get off my @ss and look for a real job. I'm gonna miss my boss and coworkers.

Guess that's it for now. I need to go spend time with DGB and get started on my weekend. It'll be gone before I know it.

6/17/04

Today is our special day. I have had my doubts over the years, at times, but I would do it all over again. Some things just work - really well. This works and it works well. I don't feel I deserve him and I feel that in terms of merit, he way outclasses me. I'm just happy that he is a bit touched in the head and therefor, loves me. What a guy!

Crochet: I had about 400 screens open earlier which made the puter act up so I only had the image loaded at that point...but here is the 'ghan for my Chicago friend. Hooking is my first love so when I start a crochet project, I easily become addicted and that is what is happening here. I want it in my hands at all times. Kinda like a good book where you read it so fast that you hate when it ends. Don't get me wrong, I love knitting. It is an even more intense addiction for me but I think that is because crocheting is not a challenge to me. At all. I feel like I have done and tried everything with it. Nothing new to me in design terms or trying to figure out ways of doing this or that. With knitting, all things are new to me and I'm still working my mind around a lot of concepts. I'm really, really happy that I had the crochet background ----- making the knitting a pick up and go experience for me. I'm not afraid of anything in a pattern, in a yarn, with a needle or 5 ---- fearless.

I dropped by Whole Foods today since Central Market didn't carry the lavender buds I wanted. Whole Foods has them but they sure are proud of them....$36.95/pound. I bought $2.78 worth. I want to make an eye mask and some closet and drawer sachets. I'll have to learn how to spread my seed very thin. I need to find me a lavender pusher. I also picked up a full spectrum bulb while I was there. I'm having a really hard time with my eyes lately. I've had poor eyesight for as long as I can remember but doing cross-stitch...uh, I've thought of hiring someone to make things for me. A Christmas or two ago, we bought DMIL an Ott light which she says she likes. I've thought of buying one but I'd rather not spend the $ before I know it is what I want and if it will help the problem. The bulb is cheaper than I expected - I think I paid $5.99 for 100 W and they carry 60 W and 75 W. Not sure what lamp I'll use...maybe try it out in one and if it works, buy me a floor lamp that'll accomodate me.

Word to the Wise: "Take the gravel, winding road, not the smooth, black-topped one."
