6/16/04 It is not my business...what other people think of me. |
Although I haven't posted any pics...I am working on the afghan I've had in the planning for a PhD friend of mine who moved to Chicago. I tried many patterns, including the Hoover Blanket, and the yarn just did not cooperate. It seems to like the Vanna White "Woodsman Stripes" afghan and I'm making progress. I shall finish it soon and it will be on its way to my friend. This a.m., I took my first "Lying & Deception" test. I can never tell how I did so I won't hazard a guess but I felt pretty good on the majority of the material. 1 down and 2 to go. Knocking down the days left - today marks 16 days left to school. Yesterday I got to apply for my diploma ---- it is all falling into place for me. My boss's wife, who is a professor in the dept, gave me a fabulous graduation gift ---an $125 gift certificate to a day spa. Wow! Can you believe? I am so psyched and the brochure list so many options for me to chose among ~ I've been wanting to do this for a long time and the last few months I've considered it more seriously. Now I'll get a chance to try it! My SIL is moving into her own place, separating from her hubby. I lucked out and got her a free washer/dryer so I ended up being a hero this week. DH is going down there on Friday to help her get settled into her new place. Hopefully that means I'll have some time alone - although, I have a research paper due on Monday. Office changes - a lady in our office is transferring to another department. She's been interviewing like a crazy lady and finally someone caught her and she'll be leaving soon. I wish her well and I'm happy that she will soon be making more money. That is why we should up at this building every day, isn't it?

6/13/04 Sunday Satire |

|
Thought you might enjoy seeing what I had to work with in order to put the edging on the bib. Enough to scare ya!The baby shower went well and it was nice to see my friend. They played a ton of games, I'm not kidding. I was there for 3 1/2 hours. The cake was worth the weight wait. It had a layer of vanilla cream and pineapple in the center. Way yummy. I brought home a large piece for DH & DS. These snarfed it down immediately since they cooked themselves enchiladas and were ready for dessert. It didn't stop them from eating the banana splits I made later. I started a new project but will be frogging it and having the yarn wait for the stash exchange. I started Paulina from the Berroco website which I still want to make...I got off a stitch and I don't care for the plasticy feel of the Berroco Luxe yarn I was using...decision made. Onto something else. Maybe beaded socks. Portable, fast project and I've been wanting try beadwork anyway. Have a filthy house to clean and laundry to do...so, I'm off like a prom dress.

6/11/04 Sooooo, whadya think? |
Cream of the Crop + Bib |
Here they are...in all their glory! The bib was a b*tch. I tried the circular needle and that was a joke so I ended up using dpns. Then I couldn't get it to quit rolling - even after blocking. So, I added a row of singe crochet. Still rolling. I ended up having to roll it and sew it to the back. Now it lies down just fine. Sometimes ya just gotta "Roll With It Baby." I put the extra ladybug button on the flower that is on the outfit since I didn't want the face being wiped with a button. The next door neighbors retard retarred their drive and that is one smell I cannot stand. No wonder I've not felt good today.

6/11/04 Bib - blocking for her debut |

Now I'm off to make the flowers for the outfit and bib.

6/11/04 I'm off! Hey, someone has to mourn Reagan. |
How cool ~ Rick Perry giving us the day off so that we can properly mourn Reagan's death. UT tower goes black tonight in his honor. Finally went for a pedicure. I've needed one desperately and I've waited for DH to go with me so they can clean up his feet. I got tired of waiting for that so I went last night to the new place in town. Not bad for 30% off - $39 for the pedicure, a flower painted on the big toes, eyebrown wax and lip wax. I love having my feet done and to me, worth every single penny. Dallas police have come up with a cool way of solving some crimes. Who's Your John? They're posting pictures of the johns who pick up prostitutes. I wonder how many wives have checked this out? I have mixed emotions on this but thought it would fun to at least check it out. Not that I know anyone in Dallas....DH? You been to Dallas lately? My goals today are: Finish the bib for the baby shower, add flowers to the outfit and the bib, buy ingredients for and stir up the cheeseballs, work out and pick up the card being made for the baby shower. If I find time within that, I will try and pick up around this house. I did not realize how much yarn is in this mohair that I won from Wendy. It is almost 1900 yards! I have got to come up with something(s) really cool to make. I visited Hancock Fabrics yesterday. Since the JoAnn store I always visited closed, I had to find another place to haunt. I bought a pattern for scrubs for DD, a pattern for skirts for me, two dinosaur buttons cuz they were only a quarter, and fabric to make a Shrek 2 blanket and pillowcase for GrandBaby. I want to make up a bunch of skirts for the summer since I just cannot stand wearing jeans in 100 degree heat. I want to raid my stash and closet before buying more fabric. I want to figure out what colors I have in the closet so I can match some tops/blouses. I drew a complete blank while in the store and I took the hint. While at the store, I met up with my ex-supervisor. It was nice to see her. She's the sole support for her family since hubby stays home with DS...and she's always so nice about the personalities of the office. It was refreshing to hear her let down her hair a little and tell me the annoyance of some of the staff. Hehe. I just couldn't do that office any more which is why I left. Luckily, it turned out to be a good move for me. There is no way they woulda let me take off all the time for school like T&D allows me. Just meant to be is all I can say. My life always plays out the way the big man wants it to...no matter what I try to force another way. Ok, guess I'm off. I need to create coffee/cig breath and that takes me a few visits to the front porch.

6/9/04 So, It is gonna be one of those days? |
I get to the office and coming through the door, the hole where the door lock is....catches my knitting bag and pulls off the wooden ball. I see it fall into the hole and drop to the bottom. The only way to retrieve it would be to demolish the metal door frame which contains a window pane :-( Angers me since this is the bag I received from the UK. Hopefully DH can make me a similar ball. Everything else has been working this way too. I dropped my stitch counter and the counters flew all over the room. I opened up the cube storage bin and my salt container flew out. When I was curling my hair, I couldn't find the last hair clip that holds the curler. The only optimistic way I can look at it? At least I'm getting this over with in one day.Seems I do a lot of bitching on here - or should I call it venting? The other day I was griping cuz I lost my blue sunglasses. Well, when I got to class yesterday I checked the seat I was sitting at and there they were! I guess they fell out of my bag into a spot that no one could see them because I was sure that someone picked them up. Glad to have them back. Still not sure where the NASA charm came from. I applied for a job yesterday. This is the first job I've applied for that shows me to be a college grad. I had a girl in the office help me spiff up my resume. I feel *really* good about it now. The job I applied for would keep me with the University but move me closer to home by about 15 miles. That'd be nice. My pay would more than double and I'd get some great experience. Finished the bib! I still have to do the edging and attach a velcro closure, though. The shower is on Saturday and I'm looking forward to seeing my girlfriend. She asked me to bring my cheeseball so I plan on making one for the shower and one for her to take back to San Antonio. I need to get down there for a weekend visit...to see their place and to visit the Yarn Barn. I have a presentation to give today with 2 other media people. We have to explain what we contribute to an advertising team. Friday was supposed to be when the client, Apple, gave its presentation but I guess that is not going to happen since they closed the University in honor of the late President Reagan's death. I'm not sure of the purpose of the symbolism of taking off the entire day but since it benefits me and my busy schedule...hey, who am I to ask? Since it has rained for the past 2 days, I'm super thankful that I got the flat tire when I did! I guess Friday afternoon is not such a bad time to get a flat. I wasn't on the road, the car was safely parked on campus + we had Saturday to retrieve the car and replace the tire. Maybe I should think before I bitch? Naw. Didn't get home until almost 9 last night since I had to attend a film viewing for the Lying & Deception class. I just stayed on campus and put in a few more hours at work before heading over to the film. Not too bad since I was afraid I'd sleep through the entire film. I forced myself to take more notes than necessary so that I could stay awake. Seemed to work since I only got sleepy toward the end but was able to force myself to stay awake. Yummy Peter Jennings was in the 3rd part of the film. Not sure why I'm attracted to him. I told DH that PJ is the only bald man I'd ever consider doing. DH said "he's not bald." In this film he has a huge bald spot on the back of his head so I'm sure he's taken care of it by now. Either way, he's still very yummy in my opinion. A good looking, intelligent man? Uh, yeah.

6/7/04 Weird Day |
I sometimes wonder how I pull it off. I'm not one known for losing anything...well, except my memory. I went to class this a.m. and somehow lost my blue sunglasses. I remember sliding them into the pocket in my bag with my keys since they pretty much go together. I get to my car and I pull out my keys and some NASA sterling silver charm ????WTF???? but no sunglasses to be found. That is the 2nd pair I've lost so I am stuck with the pair that I don't like --- of course. From the files: It could only happen to me: School loan - I'm on my last semester of being able to nail the 3% interest loans and I ain't missing out on my last chance. So, I've been logging in daily making sure they're keeping pace with me....only could add 1 class so I don't qualify, then I add another and I qualify for unsubsidized (higher interest, etc), then they reassess and I do qualify for Stafford ---- in between the last 2 times, I called them cuz I didn't know what that meant. They had me filling out forms and running around dropping off this and that...yeah, you guessed it -> for no f'ing reason. So, since I found out last week that I do qualify for Stafford - I call them and they tell me to give it 3 days. Ok, so today is day three and I call - uh, give it 3 days. Uh, no. I nicely told her that that is what I was told on Thursday and today is Monday. So, I get put on ignore (hold) for about 5 minutes and she comes back on telling me that someone dropped the ball and they are manually entering all my info....blah, blah, blah. Yeah, uh huh, yeah. Kinda like the 40 minute cauliflower ear episode I had with the cable company this a.m. I guess they decided to try the scam of increasing my bill by $30 and I'd just pay it. Yeah and I like the part about having to explain what you have to them so that they can read it back. Then the part about them "just not understanding" when you talk about the bill. Hmm, I bet your mother said the same thing when you were born. Remember rule no. 1? I hate stupid people! They'll get their chance to hate me when I lose my mind and act the same way. My day is coming. I need to get back to the bib. It made me mad last night since the stupid pattern states "do this on right front." Which, of course, could be questionable according to what side you're looking at. K, so I wing it and of course, I'm on the wrong side so I'll have to frog back and start it over. Not difficult, I just wasn't in the mood. Patterns aggravate me - like when they didn't mention that I'd have to put the stitches on a holder but later in the pattern they talk about the stitches you have on a holder. How could that be possible if they don't know they're on a holder? I would just think that FAMILY CIRCLE reprinting patterns from their mags and into a book - wouldn't someone have caught this "minor" problems? Yeah, I'm perfect and I'm wishing the world was. Blossman is back but he heads out again on Wednesday. MK is still trying to deal with the knowledge that her husband is not going to make it. Classes are okay - I turn in a project today and need to finish all the readings for the other class. I have a media introduction presentation to give on Wednesday. Hmm, anything else? Oh yeah, went to Houston's for lunch and it was way yum but I way overate and was miserable up until late evening. Worth it? Yeah. Word to the Wise: Unless a man undertakes more than he possibly can do, he will never do all he can do.
