6/6/04 Ode to Bird...

Got the Bird some shirts...finally one that is fitting!
6/6/04 Sunday Satire
So, I head out of the office on Friday at 2 and I find myself with a flat tire. Geez, what a way to end the week. Luckily, Adam answered the phone and he took me to class and then picked me up after class and took me with him to his 2nd job where DH could retrieve me. After g. sales on Saturday, DH, GB & I headed down to campus to retrieve my car. Not real sure what DH was thinking when he took my tire down to the shop...he comes back home after going to pick up the tire an hour later and he asks me for the receipt of when I purchased the tire. So, I dig through all my paperwork and hand him the receipt envelope. He hands it back to me and says there won't be much of a refund anyway since there is not much tread on the tire. Ok, so I had to be interrupted from sewing the cool ties that you want so that I can dig for a receipt that you can hand back to me saying you don't need it after all. Kinda like the person who pulls in front of you and slows down. Exactly what was the purpose of that move? Nope, I learned to bite my tongue a long time ago.

As you see, I got pretty far on the bib. I did a lot on it last night by the fire. DH had the neighbor over for a few brewskies and I had a chance to hit the bib. Had some luck at g. sales too - I found someone hanging up the towel on her crocheting so I landed a Vanna book, a leaflet, some yarn and hooks from her. I also found a lady downsizing on her stash of thread crochet patterns. I currently have an eBay auction for the Barbie gowns patterns so should recoup a 6th of my g. sale spending. The rest of the patterns I'm holding for my cousin to look through since she's a thread person. I also bought a child's weaving loom. GB was my reason for purchasing it...he found it and wanted it. I've always wanted to try it so here we are $1 later.

Today we head out for middle daughter's birthday lunch. I desperately need to clean up this house before we head out. I'm embarassed that I've done zip around here except for a few loads of laundry. I probably should've been embarrassed when the neighbor sifted through the house to get to the restroom. I also have some homework to finish for Monday. Already have a project due in one class and reading to finish for the other. Bills to pay...people to do, errr, see.

Oh yeah, I won the June contest on Wendy Knits! I rarely throw my name in the hat on the blog contests: 1) since I never win, and 2) I kinda like remaining anonymous about who's blog I read. Well, Wendy is one site that I enjoy reading. She rarely gets very wordy, she always includes knitting content + picture progress...then there is Lucy at the Kitty Day Spa. The captions that Wendy comes up with and the pictures she takes of that adorable cat...crack me up. I guess being a cat fan helps but when I see a cross-eyed picture of Lucy staring at me, hard not to bust up. Anyway, I have a big hank of mohair heading my way and I need to come up with a pattern that is worthy of this win. Maybe after I strip naked and roll around in it I will think of the perfect use for it. Maybe I'll just continue the naked theme and continue with my rolling...or is it my rolls?

6/4/04 Ta-Da!

Here it is! Last night I finished weaving in the tails and sewed on the buttons. She's is finished and ready for her debut. I had every intention of finishing my reading homework and to get a good jump on the bib BUT my cousin called and we talked for about 2 hours or so. The bib requires increases every now and then and I knew I'd end up frogging if I worked it while on the phone.

It is finally Friday! I have a love/hate relationship with short weeks. It has gone fast this week but I still think they feel longer than they are.

Not sure what Adam did to my office chair but it had a big, wet circle so I had to switch out chairs on someone this a.m. I'm not chancing sitting on it with the white shorts I am wearing. Oh yeah, I hit Bealls last night on the way home from work. I know better but I did it anyway in the justification that I need guchies and bras. Found the sling shots but found zip in the bras. Guess it is hard to have cute bras that hold up the cow udders but I refuse to buy any bra that isn't lacy. I'm in one of my girly moods. Either way, I bought 2 pair of pjs for me and 2 pair of pjs for DD and got me three pair of sandals. I didn't find shoes that I wanted but what I've got has me excited. I'm wearing one of my new pair today. They are white, have a little heel on them and have a flowery chain that leads from the ankle strap down to the toe strap. Too cute. I couldn't decide so got the black and the white.

I hit the dentist on Tuesday. Hubby wants to know why I'm such a fanatic on my teeth. Hmm, maybe cuz this is the last set I'll get in this life? Hair and teeth make a person's appearance - IMHO. My hair doesn't always cooperate for my theory so I have to keep the teeth spiffy. He's like "you floss before you go to bed and then when you wake up - what, exactly, did you eat during that time when you weren't flossing?" Yeah, wouldn't he like to know.

Wow, started my list of knitting or crocheting projects that I want to accomplish. Geez, you'd think I was retired with all the things I want to do. Guess I need to quit buying the yarn so that I won't be pushing myself so hard. Fat chance.

Word to the Wise: We always find time for what we believe is a priority.

6/3/04 New Semester
Yesterday I got the green light for my classes ----today starts the every day class and maņana starts the MWF class.

Okay, now I'm not exactly dog-ugly but it really surprised me yesterday. Here I am: almost 41 years old, mother of 3, grandmother of 1 who needs to lose another 10-20 pounds ----- got the picture? I'm driving to Curves after getting the mop chopped and this black truck (brand new) is riding down Williams staying right next to me. Nope, I don't even look over. He (could see the hairy arm) pulls around in front of me and then I turn into Curves parking lot. In my rear view mirror, pulled down so I could admire myself, I see the truck in the parking lot! He pulls up toward me, then he backs up and parks where he can see me. Hello? This is getting a little weird. I grab my workout bag and head into Curves where I will blend into the old, fat people scenery. I guess the working out, dropping 30 pounds and the new haircut are working for me. Wanna see?

Well, I finished all the edging on "Cream of the Crop" and it looks really cute. I also worked on weaving the ends and only have to finish the weaving on the legs and sew on the buttons. On the way in this a.m., I started the bib while DS drove. I want to finish the bib and a pair of booties before the shower on the 12th. I'll have to give her an IOU for the blanket. I really don't think I'll have it done by the 12th even if I don't factor in the school work I'm sure will be heading my way.

Yeah, the haircut looks good. I think she's trainable. She was really careful in trying to accomplish what I want. Not quite there yet but I like what she did. This is a new place (to me) with a girl that just started there so I know she needs the clientelle. How much do you tip your hairdresser when you're not quite sure yet? Normally I give them $10 when I'm pleased but I gave her $5 yesterday and then I started questioning that. I just wasn't sure cuz I have to wait until I work on it to know if it is what I want.

6/2/04 Classes Start Tomorrow....
my final semester! I'm psyched. The break wasn't long enough but at least it is here and soon it will be over. Hmmm...wonder what I'll learn in the Lying and Deception class? Will I be depressed and full of self-loathing?

Seems that I spent the entire day in the car yesteday. Driving 130 miles in a day is bad enough but with my crappy a/c...unless I'm driving 180 mph without smoking (who doesn't want to smoke when going 180?) then I'm sweating my balls off. With Monday having a heat index of 106, it is plenty hot out there. I had at least 10 errands to run yesterday ---- yes, I completed them.

One of the things I did yesterday was to attend the crochet meetup in Round Rock. It started at 7 which is tough but figured it'd be ok since I had to pick up DS in RR around 8:30 or so. The place we met was a cute, lil coffee shop but it was a little warm and it took me an hour to get the baked potato I ordered. I ended up just standing at the counter staring down the girl. No, the wait was not worth it. The meeting went well...not as bouncy fun as the knitting meetups that I have been to but our group was small. I enjoyed seeing the projects they pulled out and they liked "Cream of the Crop." I brought it in hopes of finishing the picot edging I'm doing on the sleeves, legs and possibly the collar...plus I grabbed the book, needles and yarn for the bib but I barely did 5 stitches before my cell rang. DB Donnie just had to call and asked if I was at my "therapy" session. Yeah, he thinks I'm as weird as Seester does but hey, I yam what I ham. Nope, I did not get the picot edging finished cuz right after I hung up with Don, DS called and he was ready for me to pick him up. Just as well, I wanted to get home and get my shower - all that running around wore me "plum" out ....as they say here in Texas.

Word to the Wise: Never forget the kindergarten principle: Keep it fun.

5/31/04 June is already here?

Sans girly touch...
Although it is 91 degrees out, I cannot believe June is already here!

Here is an update of "Cream of the Crop." I need to add the girly touches and buttons. I also need to sew in all the tails - tucked in for the picture party ;-) DH also asked about the neck coolers that I'm supposed to be making so I guess this project will wait while I zip up some of those on the sewing machine. With him working on the lawn, I oughta be ashamed.

Back to work tomorrow and back to school on Thursday - yuk. I'm not ready for either one. It has been nice being off and I'm starting to enjoy it. Guess I can just get over it.

5/29/04 Garage Sale Finds!!!

Had a great haul at saling today - here is a glimpse of my goodies. Found this at what ended up being a friend from Curves - they had $10 on the box and she gave it to me for $4. Not that I need any more needles but I just had to have them. I seriously need to take inventory of my needle stash and ship some over to Seester. Gotta keep her interest. I know I don't need the crochet hooks since I have a set from Germany that I bought years ago but I love the old wooden hooks. We found DSon an 8 track player - paid more that I wanted to so hopefully it'll work. Ok ~ I've gotta go clean this sty and then get to knitting on that baby outfit. I finished the back and front two pieces - now I'm working on the first sleeve. I nailed her some clothes at a g. sale too! I think she'll be happy with what I got.
5/26/04 Cream of the Crop Update

Home again, home again...jiggedy jig. Vacation until Tuesday ~ yeehaw! Didn't accomplish much - cleaned off the kitchen table, ran the dishwasher, watched HGTV & People's Court and finished the right side of Cream of the Crop. I have my priorities and relaxing is one of them. I deserve it after that heinous semester. Of course, it is never all play cuz I'm worried about work okaying my taking two courses the first half of the summer semester. SOMEONE e-mailed me saying that it will be a problem ~ after being told in the fall that I had to drop a course and push it to the summer...we are now at the summer. Now it may be a problem? Naw, it better not or I'll, ummm, err, got any ideas? Actually, I think with "he who must be honored and obeyed" having said to push it to the summer + one of the classes could be construed as my lunch hour & a half...what's the problem? Then I had to flex my muscles at the school I'm graduating from - needing them to e-mail my financial aid counselor. Yeah, they don't like when I call and they tell me they don't have time. The degree? It has been a fight the entire time and I hope the payoff is in big, green, linen, 6" long sheets.

I decided on these buttons - not sure you can see them. They are ladybugs that I bought in the early '80's when DD was just a little one. They're finally going to be used. I've loved them since I bought them and never found the appropriate piece to use them on. I think this will help liven and girly up this outfit. You like?
