Grammar God!
You are a GRAMMAR GOD!

If your mission in life is not already to
preserve the English tongue, it should be.
Congratulations and thank you!

How grammatically sound are you?

Amazing, I guess the $30K in school loans paid off.

I am still working on straightening out the page - html is not hard for me but finding time....yeah.

Yesterday I started on the cuff for the second sock/slipper for DS. Very little knitting time to be had but I do have 10 of the 12 rows on the cuff completed. I think I am going to work on the Hummingbird X-stitch next to celebrate spring. It is not a very big project and it'll be nice to knock another off the list.

Word to the wise: Don't waste fresh tears over old griefs. You may need those tears tomorrow.

4/19/04 Have No Fear....
.....UnderDog is here. I sure loved that cartoon. I wish they played reruns so GB could watch it.

I had a successful knitting weekend. I finished the Kool Wool - Joan's Sock Pattern that I was making for myself. Plus, started on a pair for DS. They're bulky enough that when I had him try them on, he and hubby giggled that they were legwarmers. Then I couldn't decide whether or not to continue cuz I ain't wasting my time if they're going to sit in a drawer. I asked him and he said that "yes, I do want them." On I went and finished the first one. One to go and maybe I can hit another UFO and move it up the % scale.

Yesterday, DS and I had to head to WalMart since I had a tire going bad. You could feel the wobble in the steering wheel. DH's friend had replaced one of my tires a while back, from WalMart and since it was the only odd one....I assumed... Yeah, like they're really gonna honor the $10 extra you pay for road hazard. Life doesn't work that way for me. Scares me to think what excuse the life insurance companies use on my heirs when I cash in the chips. Either way, I still spent 3 hours at WalMart. DS & I would shop around the store, go and sit in the tire waiting room, shop some more...of course, I was knitting in the waiting room and walking around the store. One time in the waiting room there was a lady telling her man that she wants to learn how to do "that." Over I went, showed her how and got her e-mail addy to send her the link of the stitch videos that are on-line. Up to her to move it.

Here are the sock/slipper pics:

Plus +++++ I made these on Saturday for GB: I went garage saling and a lady gave me this fabric and GB had them on his butt for the modeling show and for bed last night. I need to go through the fabric stash and make him and DS their summer wardrobe. That'll knock out some stash.

Found some 80's knitting/crochet/quilting/macrame mags. I think one of them is Good Housekeeping Crafts mag. Boy, did we really do our hair, clothes and makeup like that? Smooth, white skin with very pink cheeks....yikes! The blousy type sleeves on the sweaters. Sad. Vanna White is featured on the cover of one of the mags and if I were her...I'da pulled that pic. It shows every wrinkle and line on her face. Horrible picture. I guess I'm not the only one with ugly pics in the family album. Speaking of family, had a nice visit with Seester over the weekend. Her and I spent time down at the creek just yakking and letting the water slide past our feet. We rarely get time together so it was a real treat for me. I told her we need to do another girl's weekend....spend the night, too. Maybe we can do a trip and end up in Gruene so we can do the night life there and just fall into a B&B or sumpsing.

Time once again to sign up for classes....Down to the last two so not so bad this time but it sure is a never ending cycle.

Word to the wise: It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.

4/15/04 The Taxman Hosed Me Again...
You know you're a knitter when you can fudge your knitting errors - no one will know and you can live with the error. I still smack myself in the head and pull a Homer "DOH" cuz I know better.

These are the socks I am making instead of making the Boston Bulkies. I just don't have the patience for the double knitting short rows right now. I started a new skein of the Kool Wool last night using Joan's Warm Socks pattern. I figured I could use the Kool Wool as a substitute since she used 2 strands of the Wool Ease - close enough for government work. I think I may like them. I've been itching to use this yarn so here it is.

Check out GB's laptop.

And the culprit?

I couldn't believe my eyes - I heard him say "I'm playing my computer" and I look over and his fingers are going at it. I'm laughing and he says, "I found something." Oh yeah, he got ice cream money for allowing me to take pictures.

4/14/04 It is My Mommie's Birthday!

Happy Birthday to My Mommie! I am happy she is still around for me to say that to. Two years ago she had a stroke (who wouldn't after raising 6 kids - 4 of them boys?) and it has been an uphill struggle ever since. I wish her life had been easier and I wish her getting up in age had been easier but life didn't fall that way for her. Maybe her next life will be posh - I can only hope.

Here they are - a FO and GB is proudly sporting them. I finished the froggy socks today before heading into the fatal Spanish class. I'm happy to have them off the needles and onto GB's feet. He is also wearing the shorts I made him for Easter - Peanuts gang Easter. As you see in the 2nd picture, he's hopping around the room for Granny. Now I can fill the % bar and check this project off the list. Phew! Now if I could only pass this Spanish course. I went to her office hours today and we talked about what we can do. No, she won't let me do some extra credit work but hey, I asked. She's going to try to hook me up with some doctoral student who just finished writing her doctoral defense and has some free time. Yeah, come teach the 40 yo dumb Granny some Spanish. She helped me outline my focus for the final and we went over my grades and we worked on some of my problem areas. She knows I got ripped off at the other schools and classes and I know she has compassion for me - I just hope that I can pull of the very few points I need to pass the course. She has been very helpful and I think she will be just as thrilled as I (well, kinda) if I pull it off. If not, well, I will be back at in the fall since I don't think I could hack a condensed summer Spanish course. I just wish I wasn't so rushed at this point in my life or I would really learn it all and proudly habla con la gente de Mexico y Espaņol - with my white girl accent and all.

Hmm, what project should I tackle next?

4/11/04 Everything Deserves A Second Life...

...is what I thought when I saw this cute dress at the 50 cent thrift store sale. The first picture shows the dress with the lining cut out and lying next to it. The second picture shows what it will do in its second life. Not that I need another bag but hey, thought it'd be cute and it is! I may add a pocket or two to the inside. Maybe one for keys, license, etc. and the other pocket for a cell phone. You just never know.

I cleaned out some of my closet - mostly pants so lucky you Seester. A lot of them are winter since that is what is going into storage and I'm cleaning out what I haven't worn this year. I don't have time to mess with clothes I don't wear. I'm tired of storing clothes when they can go to someone who will wear them + gives me more closet space. I still have 3/4 of the closet to go through but figured I'd do the summer/winter transition a little slower, especially since it is cold here today (48f - eek!).

DS and I cleaned out his room. That gave me 4 additional loads of laundry - sheets from his and GB's room, towels from DS's room (sad), a dark load and a light load. I made him climb under his bed and pull out the sports mags + clean the floor of his closet. He groaned a little but he thanked me when we were through. I've wanted to do this for months - it looks good and he knows where his things are -> for the time being anyway. The sheets in both rooms had to be stripped since we had company over and someone elses body on the same sheets just grosses me out. I have done my share of laundry this week. Only one more load to come out of the dryer and into the closets.

Head down in shame, yeah I need to go study Spanish.

4/11/04 Endless...

Remember this? I made this last summer - yarn: Bernat Cottontots, pattern: Knitter's Stash. It may be too big for me now which means I will have to cut off some of the sides. I have two different beads to choose from - I'm wanting to add beads to it to jazz it up some. This has been sitting on my sewing cabinet all winter. Since I know *zero* about beading, I have hesitated adding the beads. Karen at work gave me two different color pink beads and the one that I thought I'd use is not the one I decided upon. I am thinking of adding beads around the collar and we'll see what else. Either way, I need to put on a bra and try this baby on to see the fit. It may be just fine. Either way, another UFO to add to the list.

Gots to run - laundry and Spanish calling my name. YUCKKKKK.

4/10/04 Oh It's Saturday...

I am such an overachiever ~ I suppose that makes GB happy. As you can see, I made him a pair of pants and a pair of shorts. I bought this fabric at JoAnne's this past week - 1/2 price plus too adorable. Really easy to zip together and he sported them home last night.

As you see - I finished a froggy sock! I may end up pulling it out and making it a little longer. I am down to the foot part on the 2nd one ~ wanted to have them done for Easter tonight but might not make that deadline. I have to get ready to head to Karen's - she says she'll help me with my Spanish. Not sure how much I trust it but I'm desperate at this point. I have to do well on these next two tests or I'm sunk. Hopefully seester's strength bracelet will have the power I need. Either way, I'm please with finally knocking out this sock since it was a big problem for me learning to make socks and the pattern was wrong. Never ends for me - a constant reminder that God is not done laughing at my expense.

DSIL spent the night last night - her and Tara. We hit g. sales this a.m. and then hit the 50 cent clothing sale at the thrift store. I had her go through my fabric stash and got her to haul off a bin full of fabric and the pillow forms. I know I can buy more and it made me feel good to get some out of here. Besides, the clothing sale got me two more things to add to the fabric stash. I'm such a weirdo.

Off to hit the mountain slopes of laundry. Bye.

Thewsday 4/9/04
Well, I ripped out the sock that I worked on over at Seester's on Sunday. When I got it home and tried it on GB's Barney Rubble foot - I didn't like the opening nor the tight fit. I know it needs to be a tight fit in order to wear well but it was tight enough to take a couple minutes to get it on his foot. Even a 3 year old knows better than that. He cracks me up - I still had the needles in and when I was sliding (forcing) his foot into the sock he says "Granny, are you gonna yarn my toes?" I e-mailed a lady from the knitlist who said she's made over 50 pair of socks. I wanted a better cast-on since the socks I made for me feel like there is a string tied around the top. No one would appreciate a gift like that plus I'd be afraid something would pop if they think they can just strong arm it like hubby would do. She suggested the "Twisted German Cast-On" which had about 8 pictures to the link she suggested. Yeah, you'd think that woulda made me stop in my tracks but NO, I had to get it figured out. I tried last night while sitting at Chunky Cheese with my Chunky GB. I got it once and was never able to repeat. Ripped it all out and tried again prior to heading in to class. Got it. I have the 5 rows of ribbing completed to now I'll be heading down the leg to the heel and then I'll be home free. Just hoping the stitch increase and the new cast-on will be the answer or I'll be frogging again and I'll never get to the other 9 UFO's on the list.

Off to a meeting with one of my profs. If all goes well, I'll be done with this class and only 4 left to focus on. Cross your toes for me.
