3/21/04 Sunday

Felted purse from a sweater
Up and at 'em - have a load of things to accomplish today. Have to finish laundry, finish two research papers, study for Spanish writing assignment, and finish cleaning this house. Nothing I can't accomplish - just have to remind myself.

Didn't the purse turn out wonderful? I think I outdid myself on this one. I love the blue - too bad it is already spring and it needs to be put away for winter.

Made two more kitty blankies for Critter Coalition. I realized I had enough of the fabric left to make two more with the kitty fabric. Good - 4 will have these cute kitty blankets. Now I have 6 ready to mail. I'm thinking of starting a box and mailing when full and then maybe another box....especially since the deadline isn't until July.

My friend Jessica found out Thursday - she's carrying a healthy one-pound baby girl. Lucky her :-)

3/19/04 For Your Viewing Pleasure

Top left is Bear Necessities for GB, Top Right - Hoover Blanket in the Ugly Variegated, Bottom left shows GB's "Finding Meno" and the two blankies for the Critter Coalition. So, whatdaya think? I love the kitty fabric - especially since the little grey cat looks like Murray/Alexandra/Killi. You should see GB dance and sing to his new blankie. He's only seen the completed Bear Necessities blankie since I had sewing machine probs. These went straight from my car and into a blanket. I had to cut, piece and sew the back to make them fit but I used 4 pieces of the stash!

As you see, the Hoover blanket is coming along just fine. It takes a long time to do a row since you're working with 220 stitches and all but 30 stitches are knit/purl so you're constantly moving the yarn back and forth.

Oh, and shame on me - :-( I ordered 20 skeins of cotton from Herrschners. I wonder if I can sue them for making me go into debt? Karen with the cute shoes, brought in what she calls "vest" and I call "tank" and it was wuverly soft...then the beech gets on the puter and tells me the yarn is $1.47 a skein. I tried telling her I was going to kick her azz but she told me it was my fault from the start for letting her know about their weekly sales. Ok, I give. Give me 10 in taupe and 10 in chocolate. I was looking throught the "Knitting with Beads" book and I think I know what I want to make with the taupe. I'm looking forward to making some of the beaded projects.

I shipped off the blue quilt top blanket - to Cousin Baby Ruthie. She's so good to me and such a doll - I figured she could use some of my love mailed to her. What makes it even better is that when I talked to her yesterday, she says she is making me something and hopes to mail it off on Monday. She couldn't believe I beat her to the punch. I can't wait to see what she sends me - she does such beautiful work that I know I'll love it. Yesterday at the thrift store, I found this photo album display/flip thing and I plan on putting the pics of her and I in it. She means a lot to me - kind of like a best friend or a 2nd sister. I remember her being so tiny in her Crusaders majorette uniform. What a baby doll. Speaking of the thrift store...found some cool azz things. Found a pair of Thinsulate gloves for hubby - perfect condition - 49 ¢ - he loved them and they have leather palms. Found a set of three glass/globe type ornaments for $1.49 and a cute tree face guy for $4.99. I felt pleased with my finds when I walked out. A lot of their things were 50% off. I headed to half price books but did not find anything I couldn't live without.

Almost time to change out the winter clothes for the summer clothes. We've had the A/C on at the house for the last 2 days. This a.m. I turned it down a little more since I was sweating just walking around the house. Kinda sad to leave winter behind and head into the sweltering months. I used to be able to take the heat but the older I get...guess we say that about a lot of things.

Found a cute azz dress I have to have - along with a pair of shoes. Title Nine sports sent me a catalog and they have a Tomboy dress and Diva Slide sandals that I've got to splurge on. The dress is $65 and the shoes $70 ---- yikes. Way out of my garage sale budget. I think I deserve it since I've been working out like a good little heifer and continuously losing weight. I found a sexy, dressy dress the other day at a thrift store and the tummy is almost to the point of showing it off. The Tomboy Dress will also require a flat tummy.

3/17/04 Green, Moldy Undies
Ran out of the house without any green and you know I have St. Paddy's Day earrings! What is wrong with me? Guess I was thinking about it being trash day and since DH is down with his back....yeah, tis queenie's turn to take out the trash. I have a question - was St. Patrick a beer drinker? Everyone seems to think he was. If so, why does he only get one day dedicated to him instead of say...a week? a month? They have National Be Nice to ADAM months so why not Beer Drinking Month?

Speaking of Knitting - I'm on the double knitting part! I started the double knitting part last night but since I was tired....frogged it at least 3 times. I know better, I know better but I really wanted to get in some knitting time. I shoulda just put up the laundry since there is not much you can hurt there. Besides, its been waiting since Saturday. Maybe when I get tired of running out of the bathroom and into my room or the laundry room - digging through the baskets for hubby guchies. Anyway, I think this double knitting is working out fine. I did one of the rows this morning before anyone got here to work - may hide in boss's office and do some more. I want to start seeing some progress on that area. Oh - I got a group going on yahoo....in case you're interested - KnitTipsTalk. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KnitTipsTalk is where you can find us. It'd be nice if it got off the ground. If it gets too large, I'll have to find a sub moderator cuz I really don't have the time to be marshall.

I need to post a pic of the luscious yarn I picked up yesterday at lunch. It is worth not eating to save my time & money to go to the yarn store. Yum-Yum-Yummy. Now I just need to track down a beautiful glove pattern to match the Fusion Yarn. This yarn is screaming to be gloves.

Ode to St. Patrick and His Beer Chugging Buddies
3/15/04 Monday
Made it through another Monday. Makes me wonder how many Mondays I have left in my lifetime. I worked all day on my Advertising Research paper and have about 5 pages I feel good about. Not a good sign since it needs to be 15 - 20 pages. I did hit the College of Fine Arts library and snagged the two plays I need to read for another research paper. I wanted to have at least one paper finished by now. I won't be hitting that tonight since I'm meeting my friend Jessica since she's in town. We're meeting at Saltgrass Steak House in an hour so fat girl here can get her fill of carniverous dining.

Left work early for my appointment at the dermatologists. I regularly go see her and have things cut off my face. Just one of the joys of being me, I suppose. She said the burn on my hand looks ok but I need to keep it out of the sun since it will turn really dark because of my dark skin pigment. Guess it needs time to rejuvenate. After my appointment, I headed over to Hastings and picked up a CD for hubby. He loves that song by Nickelback - Figured You Out. I love it too so if I ever get a CD playing car...

Working on the 'ghan with the variegated yarn. I'm almost at the part to be able to start the double knitting. I'm hoping this is the pattern the yarn wants to be - I really don't want to frog and start again.

Be good or name it after me.

3/14/04 Sunday

Grandbaby Feet and his new socks.
Started the afghan - trying out the Hoover afghan with this yarn to see if it is something the yarn wants to be. I started off with too big a needle and reduced after 2 rows and it looks okay. I like the idea of doing the double knitting center - we'll see how this works out. The other idea suggested by the knitlist was a feather/fan afghan. I was going to do that until Starr suggested the Hoover afghan. I like the history of the afghan, the design...so I'm off to the races.

I made two critters blankets from scrap. Just had to do some sort of sewing so knocked these out. One is from a quilted fabric and the other is from the fleece that JoAnn Fabric overcharged me for and has been riding around in the car with me for a few weeks. I originally planned on sewing mittens but figured the kitties or dogs could use a soft, warm blanket more than I need mittens.

About 1/4 - 1/2 done with my first research paper. Found some cool digitals for it - one is of a barker and the other two are ads for weight loss products. Once I knock out this large project, I can move onto the other two + the Spanish writing assignment. I'd rather take a nap.

Hubby is dealing with back trouble. He didn't do anything to hurt it but he's suffering just the same. I hope the muscle relaxers and vicodin kick in and give him some relief. I'm thankful I filled these scripts when in PA last August. Otherwise I wouldn't have anything to give him ANY relief. Thanks Donnie!

Speaking of PA - I'm really itching to head up there again. I want to go thrift store scouting with my aunt and cousin - my aunt is keeping note on the new ones she finds or hears about. I also want to sit back, relax and have a few cold ones. Seems the busier I get, the more I yearn for the quiet life offered in PA. I just want to throw in the towel some times. I take on too much and wonder why I feel overwhelmed. The kitchen got cleaned and the wash is finished - just needs putting away. Dishwasher and clean clothes. Another couple of things on the never ending list.

After doing the checkbook, worn out. Maybe I'll catch a half hour nap since it is already 4:30. Too much to do.

Grandbaby in his "Will" shorts and his new socks.
3/13/04 Socks - FO!

Finished set...onto the next project.
Here they are - now I can start something else. Maybe I'll work on finishing something - that'd be a good thing. These are a little "pinker" than I prefer for grandson but he won't care. The picture makes them look like they're different sizes but they're not. They match well.

Top cuff is typical cast off and bottom is *purl two together, slide stitch back onto left needle...repeat from * around.
3/13/04 Saturday Knitting Thoughts

The fun begins!
I sent a message out to the knitlist@yahoo....I have this variegated yarn which is pretty ugly by itself and I have a few large blue skeins to go with it...I'm wanting to make an afghan for my PhD friend who moved to Chicago. I just haven't come up with a pattern that'll make it all meld nicely. I've already received a couple responses and I'm thinking of making one of the Barbara Walker Chevron type afghans. The variegated really overpowers the blue - I thought that I'd make an afghan using squares across, holding 2 together with something like this -> 2 blue, 1 variegated & 1 blue, 2 variegated. The mixture of the two looked like it was all variegated so that is not cutting it. Figured I'd send out an all points bulletin for some ideas.

Up at 7 a.m. and wanting to go g. saling but everyone is still asleep. Plus, I have to be over at the highway cleanup by 10 so I guess it is out of the question today. Everyone else will get the goodies today. Oh well, maybe I'll buy some goodies at the square when seester and I hit that today.

I finished up the sock with a new cast off but it is way too loose and open. Not sure if it is the cast off or the cuff itself. I'm thinking of frogging the whole sock and starting over - especially since it weirded me out only ending up with 13 stitches for the heel instead of the 20 as the pattern states.

Hoping I get some time to clean my office today. I really need to file - I have a huge stack of patterns needing filed. I need a secretary. I did finish up the boys fleece shorts. Son asked about them and all I had to do was measure his waist and cynch the elastic. Did the same for GB but he's so tiny that I will need to tighten again so he doesn't have to keep hiking them up. They look adorable in them. I need to snag a pic.

I'm in love with the Lerner catalog I got in the mail! I wouldn't be in love if I hadn't lost this weight but I'm ready now for some cute clothes. I'll be strutting my granny ass around in the new style! Take that Granddads. I'm talking cute, cute clothes! There are some shoes in there too that are to die for --- I'd be groaning if I was still up to the weight I was. One of the ladies who works at Curves, Patty, lost over 100 pounds. I was asking her yesterday if she's gonna be one of the people on the Sweetheart Poster that Curves puts out every year. She didn't know about it and ran around looking at the posters. When she got back she said it looks like she will since they scheduled her for a photo shoot for the new magazine, Diane, that is being put out for Curves by the owner's wife. I told Patty that my goal is to get down to 84 pounds by February so that I can be the next poster girl. Guess she didn't get my humor cuz she said "Won't you be a little too thin?" I'll be on the poster won't I?

Words of Wisdom:The nice thing about egoists is that they don’t talk about other people.

3/12/04 Rainy Day Friday
Sure makes you wonder what the world is coming to....I really hate getting older and having to face the fact that the world is full of venom and hate instead of the love and fun like I'd hoped and thought. I guess that going to Catholic school and being punished for the most minor infraction..made me believe that there is justice and that you must act appropriately at all times. Just amazes me that we now have a 3/11/04 to hold in history right along with 9/11 - sure makes me stop and wonder.

Ok - it is on to spring break. I'm ready. I may sneak out of here early so I can get a jump start on my weekend. I want to go work out again (4th time this week), grab GB and then head home for some knitting or sewing. Maybe I'll get a chance to hit the research tomorrow night but then again....I'll have GB again. I will do what I can. Hoping to be under the 160 mark when I jump on the scales (cattle scale?) on the 17th. I'm so close.

Words to the wise:If you can't get people to listen to you, tell them....it's confidential.
