Really??? |
|
Did you really? What made you think I'd stop there? Oh no, not when they let me leave work at 12 pm with two weeks paid time off - oh no, no way. I also had to cruise by the Salvation Army and the Goodwill. The blankets are size twin - $2.99 each ---hello? Do I need these? The XBox disc holder - $5.99 and brand new with packaging. Harry Potter frame - hello Grandbaby! Killi frame...icicle ornament hangers...two things for seester...and the mouse pad that reads "Michelle, Southwest Texas State University Graduate 2001." Ok, so I'll change my name, college, and graduation date. No, figure I'd peel up her mouse pad surface and insert my own. Gives me an excuse to buy a new mouse pad. I love it! | |

OMG ~ help! |

|
Why?
I knew better than to stop by JoAnne's! These little, homeless, unwanted remnants were crying. I swear! They wanted me to bring them home. I just had to. The frames in the foreground were only 50 cents each - didn't know that until I looked at my receipt though. Somehow they were 50% off the $1 tag. If I'd known that ahead of time you'd have been looking at a much bigger stack. Do you see the fabric on top, middle? It is the cutest ~ high-heeled pumps in black, on a white background. What shall I make? Hmmmm... The stack on the left is the Christmas fabric I knew I'd find - I didn't count on all the fleece (stack on right) or any of the middle stack. The middle stack contains some cordedroy, flannel and a cute cotton with pine trees and moose. Any ideas for these projects?
I have my protective watchcat on the job - don't even think about it or you'll pull back a stump.
And that's all I have to say about that.... | | Check out the Baby Bird....
BirdyI just love the reindeer shirt - using the hand and foot prints of the child. Cute idea! Had a great time last night....Birdy made me so very proud! This is my nephew J ----- my sister asked me to come to his program and film his Christmas solo. What an honor! Birdie has always been my little buddy, ever since his arrival into this world and then his descent into Texas at the age of 9 months. He is fairly shy but not as bad as sister and brother were when they were growing up. Birdy performed his parts well and made sure he posed and smiled for the camera so that we'd get a good shot of how cute he is. This is tough for a shy child ----- I felt almost giddy after his performance. After the show we (sister, her hubby and the star of the show) headed over to Sirloin Stockade in happening Taylor, Texas where they stuffed me full of fried shrimp. The shrimp were so yummy - had to make myself sick. What is that saying about the fish in your tummy wanting to swim? Yeah, I was overfull - with the full of shrimp feeling (yeah, it is unique) plus the thirst all night. The need for water continued after I poured my coffee. Nope, didn't give in and probably should. Tempted to head over to JoAnne's to see what is in the remnant bin...I'm hoping to head out of work early but also wanting to go to JoAnne's with my 50% off coupon. I should get off their mailing list cuz i truly don't need any more shit in my house and certainly don't need any more stacks calling my name begging to be made into something. Just thinking I may come across some more cute Christmas fabric.....more things to add to the To-Do list? Speaking of...
Started my To-Do List and may have to pop back here to keep it updated. 1. Ski Mask Pattern - type up and email to lady who requested from KnitList 2. Shop/purchase paint for kitchen. 3. Move cookbooks to window seat. 4.Clean out videos. 5. Clean out cupboards - laundry, kitchen, living room. 6. Finish decorating house - put boxes in attic. 7. Sew Brendan's curtains. 8.
Decided to hold up on laundry until hubby hits the door from his hunting trip. Usually the laundry door in the bathroom bulges open by this day of the week - I noticed this a.m. that I really don't make much of a pile by myself. I am really enjoying my towel warmers! In the morning, I put my towels on the rack...in the evening I put my robe. I wake up to a warm robe and end the day with warm towels! Last weekend I used it to dry a sweater....worked fabo.

Pretty? |
|
Do I need it? No. Does that matter? No. Did it still run through my mind that I need to move on? Yes. Oh well. Some things are just too pretty to pass up. The Christmas fabric will go for some hot pads and the Victorian fabric will most likely go into the making of another bag - if I have enough fabric. I've always liked this type fabric. And you ask, how did I happen upon these bargains? Well, I decided to run by Oshman's on the way home from work to pick up tall football socks for BabyMan - who in their right mind (right?) could possibly pass up a run through Hobby Lobby when it is right there? I don't even want to think about what will happen when Hobby Lobby comes to Georgetown. I better hurry up and sew the stash so I'll have room for more. The fabric pieces were $2.75 for the 1.75 yds of Christmas fabric and $1.20 for the Victorian. The ornaments were half price - so half of $5.99. I just thought these were too cute and obviously so did a lot of other people cuz this was the last box.
While I was at Hobby Lobby Nikki (DD) called and met up with me at Oshman's....off we went to the mall. We wanted to find Lone Star Cafe which I was told is in the mall...wrong, so we went to Brick Oven since GB was starving. Then we shopped at Penney's for shoes and slacks for Nik....I bought a Simon gift card for F-I-L and was really too tired to continue on. I was so tempted to go in to Kirkland's ---- luckily my daughter told me I really didn't need to go in there....danger Will Robinson. I promised GB he could have some chocolate on the way out so we stopped by Lamme's and bought him two, little wrapped milk chocolates. He is such a chocoholic. Oh...Lone Star Cafe is in Lakeline PLAZA not Lakeline MALL - in case you were wondering. We saw it when we were leaving the area. CURSES!
Unfortunately, the shopping trips did not afford me an opportunity to knit last night. I got home around 9:30, took a shower and read a little of the Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitting Workshop book....very little. Off to nite nite I went. I've been pretty tired this week and I think it is cuz I am sooo looking forward to the 2 weeks off that my body is telling me to continue with my sleeping. This a.m., I made myself knit up a petal for another facecloth----4 to go and then I'll be working on the finishing up.
All the talk on the knitlist about favorite sweaters gives me some sweet memories. Having grown up on the Southern Siberian tip of Pennsylvania, us kids can remember Mom always having a favorite sweater that she either wore on her person or had hanging off her kitchen chair to be within easy reach. I think the story goes that when she moved to Florida, they (brother and her hubby?)made her dispose of the tired sweater (not sure what number she was on but bear with me) since they were heading to a much warmer climate. Also have to consider that Mom only weighs about 2.5 pounds if she is wearing her tennies. She hits Florida and yes, it does get a bit chilly throughout the year. Mom gets another sweater. She told me the other day that she is bringing her sweater for her visit to Texas over the holidays. It got me to thinking that maybe sister and I can knit her a sweater - a combo effort of the two of us. Something to the length she desires (cover the rump?), maybe not too heavy/bulky, must be washable....I have so many patterns that I know we could make her a beauty. Yeah, in our spare time.
And that's all I got to say about that.... |

Look what I got! This package was on the loose since 12/8/03 ----Silly cousin Baby Ruthie shipped it out parcel post - having no idea until I mentioned to her that I shipped to her on the same day but sent priority since all the holiday packages are out there. I still don't think 8 days is too bad although she was quite worried about the Apricot Roll you see in the foreground. Check out her lovely work! I can't wait to find a spot to put the doilies...I've been waiting for them since I saw all her beauties she had set aside for the craft show. She used her favorite pattern - which I love cuz it's the pineapple.
See the dishcloths? She's so funny and right on time...when we were chatting I was telling her about one of the things I use for a dishcloth. It is (was) a pattern I was testing out using worsted weight synthetic yarn. Figured I'd use it for a dishcloth even though I know it is not very wise. You end up with a wad of drippy, smeary towel type thing and you can't get it rung out enough to use. I knew this, still did it, and still kept it in the dishcloth drawer. After this conversation, I threw it into the trash when it came out of the dryer. Now these show up - in her note from the shipped box she tells me to pitch the synthetic crap in the trash and use these. Her timing is incredible and so is her sense of humor. What a doll. Sure wish we lived close enough to pal around ~ I know we'd learn a lot from each other. Her - she'd probably learn some really bad things about me but hey, what's a woman to do?
Check out Grandbaby! He loves MUD & BUGS - silly boy begged for them at WalMart the other day. Didn't mind buying them since it is a tried and true brand for him. I picked GB up on my way home from work yesterday so his Mamaw could finish her Christmas errands. She is now finished. She said she'll gladly watch him while I finish up my errands. I just wish the packages would magically wrap and inventory themselves so I wouldn't have to -----worst part in my eyes. I know I still have more to buy for BabyMan - hardest to buy for this year since he's at that 15 yo age. Maybe tonight I'll knock out the last bit of it all. Yuk. The never ending list.
I did finish another flower facecloth! Even with Grandbaby grabbing one of the needles and yanking out several of the stitches. I was telling him that when he gets a little older I will teach him how to knit. I guess he thought that was an invite to come over and yank on one of the needles. My voice rises up, up, up until I'm yelling and it registers in his brain that I want him to stop....it was at a really bad spot for him to do this which is what made my voice stress the direness of the situation. I had just transferred all the petals onto dpn's and did maybe 2 rounds of knit stitch.....very easy to get everything twisted. Which, of course, I did. It took me about 15 minutes to get back where I started PLUS the stitches thought they were in charge now and kept slipping off the other end of the needle. We all had a talk and they were all informed (Grandbaby included) that yes, it is I who is the grownup and I who is in charge of this operation. I finished up the facecloth this a.m. at work - will happily move onto the next after weaving and blocking.
And that's all I have to say about that....(Forrest Gump) |

12/16/03 Tuesday |
Tomorrow is trash day - gotta remember since hubby left for "hunting wabbit" and it'll be my turn to be the man of the house. Over the weekend I baked Sopapilla Cheesecake and Cappuccino Cheesecake browniers + I cooked Beef Barley Soup and Pork Rice. I brought the leftover soup today -- I have a huge pot of it left and we have this trusty, old stove in the conference room. Everyone is loving me for it since today is windy and a little cold. I had two cups of it for breakfast - yum!
Last night I did get the butt up into the attic to look for the rest of my Christmas decorations. My son was sent up for the first trip and he said he got everything. Umm, ok ~ death to thee. I knew there had to be more up there since I had not one ornament and was missing my wreath. I knew better than to send someone else up there - besides, I want everything down so I can dispose of the tired, sad looking items. I did find a melted (snowman?) candle & a broken, clear glass snowman container ---- I handed them to DD and told her she could add them to her collection. Not sure why she wasn't interested. Oh well, recycle man may like them tomorrow. I really need to finish my holiday decorating. Not sure why I keep procrastinating over it - just do it and be happy.
Worked on another flower-shaped facecloth last night. I finished the rest of the petals this a.m. at work so now I only have the center to do on DPN's. I think I'll sit in the conference room during lunch and get it going. I need to get DD to go through the stash and pick out her colors for the scarf she wants. I knew it would come up ---- she wants one like the Gap store offer for $50. If I/she had more time, I'd make her learn to do it herself. There is always a major list in my mind of what I need to get accomplished: curtains for Brendan's room is the first priority. I want to get those finished to insulate the room somewhat. I changed out the flowered curtains - with a Hulk valance. The window looks naked without any drapery on the sides.
This is so NOT me but hey...it feeds the addiction. It doesn't even have the nerve to display the image...

I had to tear down a posting on the bulletin board cuz it was driving me crazy! I don't know why spelling issues bug me. I wish I could move from the spelling problems to grammar problems - then I could improve internally instead of looking for other's mistakes. Like the who/whom question...maybe some day I'll have enough time to go back to 7th grade and have Mrs. Scelsi teach me again - whhhhuuu?
The posting on the bulletin board reads "Spacial Dynamics" which is absolutely correct since I work in the Theatre and Dance Department. Nope, have to look every time I pass it and think "oh, they really mean SPECIAL ~ no, that is correct." I think I just get off on self-insanity causes.
I wonder if this explains it? This is where I rank on one of those "who am I?" website surveys that (which?) I am addicted to....I suppose I should be happy I moved out of the '80's ~ which doesn't really explain my sad hairstyle.

Just a few words from Murray ~ she looks like a lizard on a rock - soaking up the sunshine. She got a special Sunday morning treat - a little warm milk to start her day. Now it is nap time.Had a great time with Seester last night. We hit the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar - had some drinkiepoos and enjoyed the show and the people watching. All sorts show up at this event. I like seeing all the creativity. We hit Ninfa's and The Office Lounge ----then headed home. With only 4 hours of sleep, Seester was a trooper for hanging in there. Hoping she'll post a picture of her fab find at the bazaar. Still can't believe the luck in finding it. Until next time... |
