10/20/03 |
I hope to finish the side panel tonight - I only have about 15 more rows and then I can do the edging for it and start one of the corners. I didn't get a whole lot accomplished on it this weekend - only got about an hour to work on it last night. We had hubby's 50th birthday party on Saturday so between getting the food list together, shopping for the food, prepping the food, heading to a class on Saturday, pickup son and birthday cake....not a whole lotta time to work on anything but the party. I think the party turned out really nice - his hunting buddies from Waco made the trip so I know hubby was happy. The buddies are a lot of fun and this was the first time we'd had them to the house for any length of time. I need to post a pic or two of the patio hubby finished just in time for the party. I'm hoping this will be an incentive for us to do some yard work. One of those things on the never ending list that you don't have the time or money to accomplish - just check it off one at a time. We sunk a bunch of both into the patio so it'll be a while before we jump out there for another big project. It seems there is always more added to the list when you tackle one project - for example: in order to do the patio we had to paint the house. Ummm, that involves both time and of course, more of the green stuff. Hubby and I sat out on the patio and cussed/discussed the amount of money sunk into the project and then we discussed the amount we would've spent had we hired someone to do the project(s) - over $20K. Uh yeah, I mighta screwed up and married a man who is 800 times smarter than me and I can never out argue BUT I didn't screw up and marry a non-doer. Umm hmm, love that man.School is going well. I feel a big sense of relief with one project down and another almost complete. In advanced media, we have our project to the writing up part - yep, all the research is complete and we're putting it together. I've done so little on this project but everyone else says the same about themselves - guess I just got into a smart group who knocks it out. We have to turn it in by Halloween and then we present on the 7th in Houston. Yeehaw - counting down. Also counting down until graduation - I picked out my spring classes today since registration starts on Friday. This gives me the countdown to summer of only 3 classes needed. I've been working on this degree since 1986 - can you imagine the smile I'm wearing? Now if that high paying job jumps out of the woodwork, I'll be floating around like a space cadet. Today I finished a cotton chenille facecloth. These are supposed to be the ultimate thing to wash your face. I figured I'd make a couple for my SIL and add a few of the cute soaps I bought in Fredericksburg - to the baskets I've been picking up here and there. The facecloth turned out just delish! I think I have 9 skeins so I'm thinking I can make 10 of these or so. This one turned out kinda large but I do like the size. I may have to keep this one myself to see how the size works. :-) Yep, scheming to keep one for myself. Besides, it is in my fav color! I've put the slippers for DGS on hold - I still need to sit down and figure out how many stitches to add to the top in order to work out the length for a toddler foot. The slippers worked up very quickly so I do want to make these for him. Yeah, guess I'll have to look over my sleeping schedule to see if I have an extra 5 minutes to spare to work this out. If only I could drive with my feet - that'd give me an extra hour to knit/crochet. Plus, I have two eyes - one for the road and one for the project ----> right? Oh yeah ~ I received my stitch markers ------I need to look them over and post some pics. I'm not working on anything needing marked by maybe I'll slide them on my needles and test them out anyway. Until next time....

I only have one more ghost to finish for the right side panel....plus the two bat corners. Almost finished! Check out Alexandra (Killi, Murray) - she is such a princess :-)

Nada....Plugging Away 10/13/03 |
Yeah, I noticed the date is 13 - the reverse of my deadline for the Halloween afghan....the 31st is looming. I did finish the left two corner bats and have 4 of the 5 ghosts finished for the left side panel.....only have one panel and 2 right side bat corners ~ then I can slap this puppy together. I have no new pics - I started weaving some ends last night in preparation of a photo. Here is what will prevent me from blogging and possibly finishing the project this week: 2 1/2 chapters to read and study for my test Friday in Marketing; paper due in Advertising Management; son's football game on Thursday; preparation of hubby's 50th birthday party on Saturday; meeting with the PCL librarian for stats on competition for my Advanced Media class...yeah, all that in addition to working full time and attending classes full-time. The day of the party, Saturday, I have to hike it to downtown Austin for a meeting about my 4th class. On Sunday at noon, I have to meet up with my Advanced Media group and present my competition information. They've actually been very kind to me and gave me a very light research assignment for this huge project. Gotta love those girls. Knitting - I started a pair of slippers for Grandbaby. They are seed stitch slippers from one of my books - I think from the Knitted Designs for Simpler Living - or something like that. Luckily they had the pattern online so I was able to print and go. I have to work with the pattern tho cuz he needed a bigger size than infant so I had to adjust the sole and just figured out the upper when I was sitting in the hall waiting for Advance Media to begin. I think they'll be cute slippers once finished. I need to get to Home Depot and buy some of the non-slip goo for the bottoms so he doesn't bust his head. Oh ~ and I will soon be showing off some new additions to my knitting tools. I purchased some stitch markers and hoping they'll land in Texas soon. Yumm! I received all my sock yarn from Herrschner's. I need to get hopping on the socks so I'll have something to wear with my slip-ons and loafer type shoes this winter. I hate bare feet in leather shoes - I got such luscious yarn and can't wait to get the yarn onto my hooves. Until next time...

Not Much Monday, 10/6/03 |
I did get the 2nd panel finished - so the bottom and top are finished. I tried doing a corner bat last night ~ I guess I was tired cuz I need to see what I did wrong in following the graph. No, it doesn't even come close to resembling a bat. Thought I'd have a corner finished but no go.We finished painting the outside of the house! I feel fortunate to have such a great hubby and his two friends that helped us get it done. It is one of the things on the list that I didn't think we'd ever get to and I didn't want to pay the $2,500 the painter wanted to do it. Yeah, all done! If only the kitchen were finished - hopefully that will get attention next. I guess the list will end when I die. School has taken up a lot of my time. I had two school meetings on Sunday. One of the projects go away after class on Thursday since that is when we give our media presentation. I just hope I am a little less nervous this time. It steams me that I used to be the speaker for every class project and now that I'm adult, I stutter like a blithering idiot. I've been having these self talks so hopefully they'll work. Thursday will be the tell-tale day. Hoping to get with the knitted facecloths soon. I want to give a facecloth with one of the bars of soap I picked up in Fredericksburg as gifts. With this Halloween 'ghan still in the working stages.... Plus, I'm wanting to use my knitting machine to knock them out. I did purchase a few baskets at garage sales --- to hold the facecloth and soap, so that part is out of the way. Until next time.....

Tuesday 9/30/03 Added Yarn to the Stash! |
Bad idea ~ saw the ad for Hobby Lobby and since it says (whispers in my ear) Lion's Brand Kool Wool is on sale.....geez, way too tempting for my mortal soul. So, what do I do? Leave work, after class, and head straight over to the new store off Parmer. I know better. I know that I shouldn't be spending $ and I know that I truly don't need more yarn AND I know that I don't need anything more on my list of things I want to accomplish before I die. That may be sooner than expected since I push myself to the brink every moment. So, here is what I came home with: 9 balls of Kool Wool - 3 green, 3 grey and 3 purple 3 balls of Magic Stripes - uh, have I made even one pair of socks yet? Just had to buy the yarn since it was such a good deal - believable? Not only did I add yarn to the cart but I also threw in these cool football accessories (buttons and stuff) that came in one pkg - and I get it home I needed basketball stuff (not fball) for the project I'm planning. Hmm, guess I need to stop back there and see what the damage comes to on that trip. Seems, I always have the ability to justify my actions even when they aren't positive to my pocketbook or my personality.Crocheting: I did get one of the ghost panels finished! I made myself sit still last night and finish off the panel I was 3/4 through. It did feel good to get one of them finished ---- 3 down and 4 corners to go. I need to get with the program on this project since the goal was to have it completed a few weekends ago. I'll try and post a pic of the finished panel. Until next time.....

Monday 9/29/03 Weekend Update |
Let's see - what exactly did I do over the weekend?Friday night I watched my sister's son - took him to Bob's Catfish and more ---then to Walmart since I owed him a birthday gift. Saturday my sister came and picked him up but I already had a child replacement at that point since DD already dropped off GS since she had to work all weekend. I took him to eat at Chili's and then we came home for a nap. I was feeling itchy all day so didn't accomplish a thing - like on overload where you have so much to do so you don't do anything. Oh well. I did build a fire in the evening - GS and I sat around it until my ex called to see if I'd meet him somewhere so my DS could come over and spent the night with me. I did sew two bags for sis and I - I had already cut and pinned them weekend prior so I just had to get them together. They turned out super cute. Sunday - Sis was over in plenty of time for us to leave for the festival at St. Helen's. Yeah, she laughed a little about the bags but it didn't take her real long to have one slung over her shoulder for the festival. They were great to use for carrying all the boys things - and anything we purchased. Plus, the silent auction had two similar bags that went for $30 each. Guess my bag idea wasn't so bad after all. We had a great time at the festival. Sis won a cake in the cake walk, they had a fairly small crafts table but we did find something to buy, the boys did the petting zoo thing and the jumping things. The live auction brought in loads of $ - $6K for a bishop to cook an Italian dinner and serve some wine. Hmm, don't think I've ever eaten that well although you'd beg to differ if you saw the size of my granny panties. It all went to a good cause which I guess is why the bids went so high. I still wish I'd bid at least once more on that quilt I wanted. I just don't want to spend the $ right now. Until next time...

Just Blabbing |
When I was gettng dressed this morning, I pulled out the tank and it is just too big for me. I didn't put it on but I'm just not happy about it being so big. I realize that part of the problem is having dropped 20 pounds. I guess I'm going to have to frog the sweater and make it in the small.I haven't had a chance to work on the ghost panels. When I got home yesterday, Randy had sprayed the doors on the house and I had to help him get them back on the house. Gosh, the house is looking fabulous! It desperately needed a paint job. Hubby has the front door frame ripped apart so I guess now is as good a time as any to replace the front door. It is a nice, wooden door - we want to repace it with a wooden door that has the Texas star in the center. Yeah, it'll run us about a grand - not a cheap prospect. We've been keeping baby kitty for grandbaby the past few days and when I got home yesterday, baby kitty had the angora/mohair fiber strewn across the floor with holes torn in the plastic bag. I guess it was just more than he could stand. I thought it was cute. He's only a few months old - Firecracker, born on the 4th of July. Sounds like I may get somewhat of a weekend alone. Randy is going to the deer ranch, Will wants to stay with his dad - the only kid I'll have to deal with is grandbaby cuz Nik has to work 10 days straight. He takes naps so that'll be some reprieve. Sis and I plan on going to the Catholic church bazaar on Sunday. I'm looking forward to it - I love buying handcrafted things from the little old ladies in hopes that it'll give me good karma for my future granniness.
