Tuesday 9/23/03 Bargains! Crochet!
Check out what I found at Goodwill - and I only spent 10 bucks! $5.99 for the musical, Disney Snowglobe ---mint condition and $3.99 for the knitting needles and needle case. I was so proud and hurried out of there before anyone saw what a steal I got! As you can see in the 2nd pic, I am making headway on one of the borders - my ghosts are starting to show up. Boy, all those color changes were a *&@#$( to say the least. I had tangles everywhere and Grandbaby's kitty was having a ball while I was at work. You can also see the kinda cute tapestry outside of the needle case - kinda jazzy. I may ship this to my cousin to inspire her to take up knitting. She is a great crocheter and she's considering the knitting side of it - without internet connection, she doesn't receive much inspiration nor will she have all the connections for help.

Until next time...

Monday 9/22/03 Center of Halloween 'ghan
What did I accomplish this weekend? Well, let's see:

1) the center of the Halloween Afghan - 2nd picture - http://enigldy1.tripod.com/EnigLdy/id3.html
2) repairs to two of the sewing repairs stack
3) primed the second half of the porch, was going to paint it on Sunday but it rained all day
4) cut out, edged with bias and pinned two bags for Christmas gifts
5) filed paid bills sitting around the office
6) sewed Baby Medicine's blanket and pillow cover with the pink, quilted fabric Misty bought
7) pulled out and filed some of the patterns into the antique file box
8) cleaned off the DR table and the LR coffee table
9) sewed a flannel pillowcase cover (green)/trimmed with Halloween ribbon - for a velvet square pillow ~ for Brnedan
10)3/4 of the way through one of the side strips for the Halloween 'ghan
11)Unloaded the project (knit/crochet) bags I had in the LR - like I need to have several projects looking at me
12)hung the mirror in the hall and the vintage Texas envelope above the thermostat
13)purchased an entry way light/chandelier - looks fab!
14)laundry - finished and put away

Not only did I get all that done, hubby pulled out the large burn bin he bought for bonfires and we sat around the fire Friday and Saturday nights. We babysat grandbaby on Friday night - he learned to enjoy the fire after his initial show of fear and reiterating of Mama's words "hot, scary."

List of to do (in all that I do get done, there is always the never ending list):
1) bills - Mom $?
2) hangers - round up and organize
3) need mascara and hairspray for work
4) Liz mirror - case
5) mags for CSD
6) sewing repairs - gather
7) clean off sewing machine stack
8) finish sewing quilted bags
9) bead pink sweater
10)fleece mittens/wool & tweed stockings
11)red sweater
12)shadow boxes - Nik & I
13)taxes - tuition bills
14)Sharon Ross 'ghan
15)Finish Xmas 'ghan - pic with Bren for letters?
16)wax
17)prep pkgs to mail
18)take a bath and relax
19)Mktg readings
20)paint porch?

K - now I'm tired and need a nap.

Until next time....

Friday 9/19/03 Thursday...Almost Friday
I had to attend my son's football game last night - whooped 'em big time. It was cute seeing hubby pulling the wagon with grandbaby ----I was sitting in my car waiting until closer to 5 and I see them heading toward the field. What a beautiful site. He's such a good hubby and granddad.

I didn't get any time to work on knitting/crocheting. My ex asked me to film the game with his camera while he was up in the lifeguard stand filming with the school's camera. I'm sure I did a horrible enough job to not get asked to do it again. I included some filming of grandbaby - and close ups of my son --------hey, there is a price to pay for my time.

When I got home at 8:30 - a beautiful new catalog in the mail: Woodland Woolworks. I've oohed and aahed - and eBay searched and put in some bids on some yarn. Maybe when I find my dream job of little hours and lots of money I can buy lots of soft yarn and pump out lots of cool things. Guess I need to hang in there until graduation day so I can start that job search. I've also thought of maybe a traveling job so I could sit in hotel rooms and enjoy my knitting/crocheting. I'd really miss hubby and grandbaby though.

I stopped by Half Price Books during lunch (yep, got me a free minute to explore thrift shops and such) and they were having a 20% off sale....so.....I bought three booklets - two of them are for knitting afghans and the third one I am going to mail to my cousin, Baby Ruthie. She makes dishcloths that she sells in October - at some sort of craft sale. I loaded her up with a bunch of cotton yarn from my stash. Like I'd miss it or something. The booklets were major bargains - marked 98 cents when at least one of them retailed for $8.95 + I got the 20% off! I love these finds!

Guess that is all for now. I hope to have more to add next time - like maybe some news on the Austin Knits meeting on Exposition -----maybe some updates of finishing the center of the Halloween 'ghan. Who knows? I'm so worn out that I just can't imagine doing something other than sleeping or vegging.

Until next time...

Thursday 9/18/03 Knitting Meetup
Last night I went to the 4th Knitting Meetup - I get off of work at 5 and the meetup starts at 7 so I drove over there and parked, went into Whole Foods Market and bought me some dinner --- portabella spring rolls, chocholate cake and water. I decided to sit outside and eat, not knowing if they'd let me bring food into the book store. The guy sitting at the next table was eating sardines and with that waifting through the air - uh, yuk. Then, I get to the end of one of my spring rolls and it is crunchy. Kind of a mix between crunchy carrot and sand....not either one but disgusting enough to bother me. The cake was delicious but I really could only eat a few bites. After that I roamed the parking lot and came across two girl/women sitting in front of the bookstore trying to find a home for a kitten - uh, try getting your cat altered. The one girl/woman had most of her head shaved with the remaining hair dyed bright pink. Nope, I'm not to the good part yet. Yes, there was a tatoo or two or three -----the scariest thing to me was the stretched out earlobes with the big heavy loops hanging in them. Bet that'll be cute on a granny 40 years from now.

By the time everyone started arriving - I wasn't feeling very comfortable with my surroundings. It wasn't the group's fault but I really didn't want to be there. I was already considering ditching the group prior to 5 pm but I really am a reliable person so I showed. I was sitting at the tables and this lady asked everyone's name and when I told her my name - she got all excited. Turns out she is the woman who works with my step-daughter, Kelly. Judy and I talked on the phone in August and I told her it is a fun group and I stressed to her that even though I was going to be in PA during the August meeting, she should go. Well, she did and loved it. She had a huge basket of goodies so she moved over near me and shared. I ended up adding a crochet edging to the little girl sweater that the Mom wanted an additional 2 or so inches added to the waist. Judy had a few knitted edging patterns with her but it worked out more like 4 inches when the yarn and large needles got going. We decided that would be too much and I told her I'd prefer to add a crochet edge and be done with it. I did a row of double crochet and then a row of picot. Turned out cute and now she can call it an FO!

I got home close to 9 since I had to stop and grab some smokes and drop off the cable payment. I was so ready for my bed. At the meeting, I did snag a pattern of the Boston Bulkies Socks from Kathy. These socks are made on two double pointed needles and made with double knitting. She had two balls of Kool Wool from Lion Brand that she was demonstrating the method with - yep, gotta get me some of that. At $3.27 a ball, I can do that.

I should've brought my Halloween 'ghan from the car but wasn't in the mood for the hassle at the door - and really didn't feel like doing a thing. Guess I'll have to speed crochet over the weekend.

Until next time...

Tuesday 9/16/03 Monday....Crochet
Wow on a Monday!?!?! On the way home from the office I realized I did not have any homework nor did I have to study for a test....so thought I'd go home and knock out another section of the porch painting. I got home and told hubby that I have nothing pressing and what I was going to do and he said, "why don't you just sit down, relax and do your kaniddling." Now I do have a mission - I MUST find out how to clone this man or I'm going to have a whole bunch of people knocking down my door to get to him. He really is such a doll!

I did sit it down and I did work some on the Halloween 'ghan. I got to then end of the witch intarsia and it seems that when I count rows, I am 5 short ----major oops but I can't find where I could've left out 5 rows. I think I will go back tonight and see if the pattern miscounted and not me. The only reason I truly care is that the side and end pieces must match up or I'll truly have a problem on my hands at that point. That glitch frustrated me last night plus my hands were bothering me and grandbaby arrived - so I hid out in my office and cut out a pillowcase cover for one of the square pillow forms I have in my stash. Of course it will be for grandbaby - who else is there?

Until next time...

Monday 9/15/03 Weekend progress....knitting, painting, home improvement...
The list never ends ~ is that the way it will always be? Hubby invited his friends and his father (Mr. Engineer) over on Saturday for the erecting of the patio cover. I'm not talking about a tiny patio cover ----- this thing is massive and looks like something you'd find in a city park. Hubby had told me that they'd have to start painting the house prior to installing the cover. In the a.m., Marc and JR showed up along with Kelly and Will (our chiluns). When I got home at 10 a.m. with our oldest and the grandbaby....everyone had a paintbrush or a roller in their hands. Uhhh hmmmm, like I can go into the house and crochet on grandbaby's 'ghan. What is a woman to do besides hope to excape from the people - so I grabbed the primer and headed to the front of the house where hubby put in a new railing around the porch. Gosh is that hard work! I primered half of the porch with all those damn dowels....then I painted them - on Sunday I painted the large cornerposts. My back was so sore but I toughed it out and it looks good. On Sunday I had to do laundry and study - unfortunately laundry had to go into the dryer instead of hung on the line :-( but there was no way I could do everything else and still get it all done. Oh well electric bill - bite me.

I did do some of the afghan though - I'm almost finished with the witch (3 rows?) and then will only have the 20 orange rows left. I also talked to hubby about having him build me a table for my knitting machine - he already had ideas which include having the table fold up and go against the wall.....I love him! I won two of the 4 yarn auctions I was bidding on ----some idiot wouldn't quit out-bidding me so I got her up to $39 and let her have it. Just glad she had to pay more than she planned. Karma got me though cuz I lost one of my auctions that went for only $6.50 - sad. Either way, I have more yarn on its way to me soon - plus, did you see all the yarn on sale at Hobby Lobby? I need a bullet more than I need yarn but I would never get off that easy so I'll take the yarn. Seriously thinking of stopping on the way home - uhh, just to let traffic go by, right?

Until next time....

Friday 9/12/03 Continuing On...Halloween 'ghan
I did get a little time in last night to work on the Halloween afghan. I had a 7:30 pm football game for my son - I took along the 'ghan and my study books BUT the weather turned windy with the storm heading in..... They called the game at 8:30 pm - so we drove through the rain and headed home. I set myself up in front of the tube and watched Primetime and worked on the 'ghan. I got quite a few rows completed before I had to jump in the shower and bed at 10. Getting up at 5 each day - I definitely have to watch my bed time. Was so sad to watch the stories of the babies growing up without their daddies because of the 9/11 attacks. They all touched my soul but the only that made me cry was the lady who was 2 weeks pregnant when this happened. She said that she had to decide to overcome the grief and decide to live. She moved back to Dallas to be near family. She made a very good statement about not really being able to share all the amazing things she sees her daughter doing and learning. She said there is no one who really wants to hear her go on and on about how amazing her child is - the only exception would be the other parent. I feel for her and her daughter. It is inspiring to see these amazing women overcoming this major devastation in their lives. It makes you realize how hard they have/had it and they still see some light at the end of the long tunnel.

Found and printed a cool pattern for kids socks at ptyarns.com - I think Brendan would like some grannymade socks. They only take one ball so would only cost about $5 - sure add that to the list of things to-do. No wonder I'm so close to the insanity edge of life.

Until next time....
