1/11/06 Wednesday

Here are the before and after fulling - pink slippers. These were a very quick and easy knit. I would suggest these to anyone wanting to learn sock knitting. I found this pattern on knitnet dot com ---- called Big Socks or Big Slippers or something like that. It must've been a freebie because I do not subscribe to their site. I did decide to pull out the ones I was making for GB. I think I'll just make him some from the stash of Kool Wool. I love Kool Wool slippers and I don't believe I've made any for him. I probably should whip out a pair for baby cousin Teagan. What is that - cousin once removed?

I am 57% on Camo Hat #2 and finally onto skein #2. This is another quick knit since I haven't even been working on it in the evenings and I'm still knocking it out. I get 2% complete just by knitting one round. I'm wondering if DB Don wears orange caps for hunting since I've accumulated quite a stash of orange. I could knock out a few for him and his kid and destash at the same time. Especially since I'm trying to get back in the good graces of my commitment to destash. He has yet to answer the two times I have text messaged him wondering if he even wears orange hats when hunting. He needs a good pinch or a puppy pull of his hair.

I took the car in for estimates on the two accidents. Front was backed into by a Geo-Sciences suburban and the rear was the hit-and-run that occurred last week. I haven't received the assumption of liability from the runner's insurance yet so I shall wait to hear. $1200 for the front and $800 for the rear and I don't see anywhere on the estimate for the rental car. I guess I need to call Mr. Cute with White Teeth Estimator and find out WTF. Ain't life grand?

1/10/06 Pillow Talk

Here is the purty pillow I put together. I think it turned out splendidly. DD picked out several hankies that she likes. I asked her what she's going to do with them and she just looked at me like a deer in headlights. Guess that means nothing so I stuffed them back in with the rest of them.

I am 32% finished with Camo Hat #2. I haven't hit the bottom of skein #1 yet so I'm thinking I can do another or two - maybe one for DN J and one for DGB. I guess everyone will be getting a Camo Hat.

I uploaded the Fulled Christmas stocking on theknittingvault dot com. I wanted to get it up there prior to the holidays but that just didn't happen. Oh well, maybe there are people out there who immediately start their holiday creating in January. I'm doing good on my sales and was shocked when I signed in and saw that there were two sales of the scarf. I guess there is a market for my ideas.

I've already broken the Stash-A-Long rules and will probably be thrown outta the group. Please let me plead my case! I just couldn't pass up the sale yarn at yarncountry dot com. They had some luscious grey and white alpaca that hit my mailbox yesterday. I immediately unzipped the box and headed for the office to wind it into balls. Yum! I've made five granny squares so far. This yummy alpaca is being made into a scarf that I've envisioned for about a year. I have searched high and low for a soft, slightly fuzzy yarn in these two colors. If I lose my membership because of this yarn purchase, I'll just have to suffer the consequences. 60 lashes with wet wool?

I snapped a pic of the finished pink slippers. I shall show them off tomorrow. They're so pretty. I may add some embelishments to them just for fun. Ain't life grand?

1/9/06 Monday....Monday

Here it is...the camo hat. I love the way the crown looks so I'm showing it off here. This pattern is located on Sweaterbabe dot com. I like the way the decreases are figured making the crown so pretty. I was curious how they were gonna pull this off since you're doing a 2x2 rib pattern. Purrty! I cast on for hat #2 last night.

Over the weekend I also washed/fulled the pink slippers. They turned out cute. They're probably way too warm for the Texas winter so they may be heading up north. They're so cute! I cast on for a pair for GB but I may frog that and use the wool for a bag or sumpin'.

I also made a pillow out of a vintage hanky. I will show it off tomorrow. I have quite a collection of vintage hankies and will be making some things from them. I hate having them stored when they should be shown off.

1/4/05 Hook 'Em Horns!!!

Tonight is the big game...we'll be having some people over to hoot and holler with us. Should be a fun time - I may even break down and have me a beverage. Here's to you Horns!

This is the blanket I made for the guy who likes the wed caw that goes awound the wace twack. The picture does not do it justice. I had these fabrics in the stash and since I'm participating in the Stash Along (see button above) I decided to use up some fabric. I love both of these fabrics and I can't believe how well they go together. I hope this keeps Mr. Logan safe, warm and snuggly. He's a little ball of fire.

I'm in one of my up-swings. Constantly making lists and keeping up with things while the mood is here. I even made all my annual/semi-annual doctor appointments. I guess the appointment makers don't get very many people like me cuz I can hear the surprise in their voice when I want to make an appointment for March or April.

Didn't get any knitting done last night since I worked out (go fatgirl!) and then came home and worked on bills. Although I'm hating the trade-off, I'm sure my creditors appreciate the sacrifice. Since I finished the to-be fulled slippers, I have 9 rows completed on the Camo hat. I'll hit more of that today even though I've got to go to the post office at lunch. More consumption of the stash and also one removed from the list of wanna-bes. What a woman.

1/2/05 Why do I have to be at work?

Yes, I know I've been off work since 3 p.m. December 22nd but everyone is off today! At least I had the roads to myself and there weren't any wrecks to slow me down ----- well, there was only me out there on the roads.

These three pics show you what I was working on New Year's Eve Day for 4 1/2 hours. DH cut the crap out of his finger at 2 and we were in the emergency room until 6:30. I knew the sock I was working on would be too much trouble to drag with me so I grabbed a newly bagged project. These are wool/fulled slippers and I ran out of yarn while waiting. It is a quick project but I didn't expect to be there long enough to need 2 skeins. I was wishing I had remembered my book. I was trying to keep busy to pass the time but more importantly trying to stay away from the flu victims and the crazy lady.

We had a nice evening/night with the boys - we kept DN J and GB. I made them little shirley temples in fluted glasses - add marschino cherry and an umbrella. They were hot stuff that night. We all played (as long as we could stand it) Monopoly. I crashed early (well, earlier than them but after midnight) and DH made some popcorn. We had eaten mini-pizzas on rolled out biscuit dough. The boys loved that.

Yesterday DH and I got all the Christmas goodies put away. My house is clean and ready to be redecorated with the normal things of life. Our living room looks like we just moved in - bare! That won't last long.

Movie rentals - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ---- thumbs down; Unfaithful - so-so; Lost in Translation - haven't watched yet; Skeleton Key - haven't watched yet.

Next posting I'll show you the blanket I made for Tookey (aka Logan).

12/30/05 New Year's Eve...Eve...Day

Thought I disappeared? No chance. Just busy with the holidays. I didn't do a lot of knitting but I did finish the 1st Conwy Sock and down to turning the heel on the 2nd. I'm burned out on sock knitting so now hurrying to get through it. I want to finish the vest and get it on the body in hopes of us having some real winter weather. 70's and 80's here isn't really vest weather. Not much of a vest person but hoping I'll like this once it is finished. If not, it'll be off to the frog pond to rethink what to do with the yarn. I have a hole in my left, pointer finger because of the sock needles. That ain't pleasing my knitting heart. They need to be pointy since I have to do back cabling and it is difficult enough...the finger sure doesn't like it.

Cleaned out the office. It looks much better and I wish I had a few more days to clean a little more. I put away the loose books and mags, filed patterns, rearranged file drawers, put things back in the closet, found some more projects I wanna work on....gosh, does it ever end?

Took a trip to a working sheep farm yesterday. What fun and I was drinking gallons of hatorade. I always wished I'd been born during the farming days - not sure if I'd like working from sunup to sundown (yeah, like I don't live that life in a different way) but it sure looks fun. Of course, that is all you see when you go to places like that - the fun. You don't see the day-in, day-out grind of country living. The lady sells her home-grown yarn that she's sheared, spun, dyed, etc. She carries several of the spinning wheels that I'm interested in so GB and I took the drive to Elgin. He fell in love with her 16-yo Arabian Stallion. This horse was the gentlest creature. GB found enough guts to feed him and the horse was kind enough to feed with his lips and not his teeth. She said that he somehow knows to be sweet to little kids. This stole GB's heart. After that, we headed over to GrandDad's and GB got to crawl through all the fire trucks. I'd never been in one myself and I couldn't believe that some are so posh - leather seats and sun visors! It was interesting seeing all the gadgets. Stupid me thought that it was just a cab and you drive to the fire. Uh, no. Well, I've led a sheltered life in some respects and this is one of those areas.

For Christmas, DSIL got me the 2006 Calendar - Knitting Pattern-a-Day...how fun is that? Yeah, I've already skimmed through the patterns and found some good ones. I found it interesting that some of them are freebies from the Internet. Huh? Yeah, surprised me, too. Since I collect everything about any subject I like, I have many of the patterns already. I still find it to be one of my best Christmas presents ever. Never had one and now I do :-)

DH bought me this light for Christmas. How cool is that? I love it. My ol' tired @ss can't see very well any more and sitting on the couch in the evenings and trying to knit or crochet or *gasp* cross-stitch - wasn't happening. The light gives me enough vision power to be able to see the stitches. I found myself making a mess of the work I did that day because I couldn't see. This has already helped immensely.

Until next time....

12/6/05 Bargain Shopper from....

....H....E....doubletoothpicks. At lunch yesterday, I hit the "Family and Friends Discount" at Foley's. I headed over there for some Xmas shopping but also to pick up this little jewel featured in the picture. I purchased one of its siblings 3 years ago. Cuisinart has a 3-year warranty on this thing - if anything goes wrong you pay for shipment of a new one and shipping of sending the old one back. I think I paid $129 when I bought it. Grand total on this gem yesterday? $35.99 - is that a bargain or what? I also bought me some new tennie runners and a few more Xmas presents - bargains that I can't brag about since this is not a private blog.

Knitting - zip. Crocheting - zip. I need to snap outta this funk. But I did go to big box HL and snag boxed sets of crochet hooks for DSIL and DMIL. 50% off - of course. Yeah, had to get me some of those 50% off candles.

Well, we got the tree lighted, beaded and decorated with ornaments. What a chore! The lights acted out for us and it didn't become entirely frustrating since we were provided entertainment via The Nutty Professor. Luckily I found some multi-colored strands of 35 lights and we got it done. DH said these shall go in the trash after this year and new will be purchased.

12/5/05 Yikes....only 20 days left!
Since I have no knitting pictures to share, figured I'd give you an insight into my personality by letting you know how I score on all those little "What kind of....are you?" Yeah, like answering 2 questions would tell you that I am a Noble Princess, Mud Pie kinda gal and that my "power" month is November. I'll take the November statement since two of my brothers were born that month.

Not much to speak of over the weekend - we got all the Xmas things out of the attic and the Thanksgiving things stuck back up there. The front of the house was the first thing decorated. The tree is up but has nothing on it. I put a few things on the coffee table and put a Xmas tablecloth on the dining room table. Oh yeah, I also organized the boxes of Xmas things that are now located in the living room. Lots left to do if you have a few hours to stop by and help out. I didn't get a whole lot done over the weekend - had a party to attend Saturday evening and DS's last football banquet last night. How sad - all my babies are grown.

I did receive my new and desperatley wanted ball winder! Before I could even get it out of the box on Saturday morning, Grandbaby was begging to use it. He had seen the ladies at the yarn store using one and he couldn't wait to get his hands on one. Once I figured out how it should be set up (directions come in really handy) all went smooth. He's Granny's good little helper. This year he really enjoys making tents from afghans - the living room caught hell over the weekend. A flashlight, some pillows and two large afghans make the perfect fort. Watching him brought back some good memories. DMom would help us set up forts on her clothesline. Two blankets and several clothes pins entertain kids for hours - I'm sure she didn't care as long as we gave her a little peace. Little did she know that I am most likely to: Get kidnapped by a stray dragon.
