12/02/05 Where have I been?.....You ask?

...dealing with this tragedy. These are my husband's cousin's babies - funeral was yesterday. We learned of this on Saturday and I've been in a funk ever since. We made the trek to East Texas yesterday and did what had to be done. Attending a funeral for three little kids is, most likely, the hardest thing in the world. I'm glad it is behind me. I really feel for the parents/grandparents in the upcoming days and months.

I finished the green scarf last weekend. The picture doesn't really resemble a scarf but twust me, it is. The blue socks are the second pair in the KAL - this is my first sock of the pair. I worked on this a little on the drive to east Texas. Oh, why yes!, I did pick up the spinning and did a little more. It is getting more comfortable by small degrees. The biggest difficulty is keeping it spinning and not letting it spin back on itself. I don't know if there are any tips for this (googled like a mad woman) or if this is just something you learn. I want to buy a spinning wheel but am making myself learn the portable method before saving the sheckles to buy the big boys. I don't want to invest unless it is something I will use. I thought I'd like the knitting machine and that sat for a year before reselling. I want to avoid that pitfall although all the tools retain their value. I want to avoid the albatross when it sits there and I carry the around the guilt of not liking it. I do love the idea of spinning my own yarn just not sure that will carry me through the expense of the wheel(s).

Off work today - we had all planned on staying the night about half way home but we pulled it on in last night. After such a strenuous situation I guess we all wanted to be in our own beds. I slept well but seem to be dealing with mini night terrors because of all this. I plan on cleaning up around here and pampering lil ol' me today. I also want to drag out the Christmas stuff - maybe that will help the soul.

Until next time...

11/25/05 Black Friday

This is my type of Black Friday - a new scarf for the Christmas Party. I worked it up in a drop-stitch pattern on size 10 needles. DD got up at 4:45 and hit the sales - she finished her shopping so I guess it was a wise decision. I stayed home and finished the scarf. DGBaby and I had stopped at the yarn store on Wednesday. I was in search of a pink, slubby yarn for DD's afghan. I did not find what I'm looking for but I still went home with three skeins of yarn. The wonderful owener, Pat, came through with a 10% discount since she was having a sale on Friday. Lucky me! I've started on the green yarn and it is turning out really pretty. I'm thinking this will go to co-worker, Meredith. She is a fan of green and since we're kindred spirits in that respect...

I made these butterfly pillow cases for DD. I've had them sitting around for a while and finally got them knocked out. The butterfly panels are from vintage valance curtains that I loved but knew I'd never hang. DD thought they'd be cute on pillow cases. Another thing unloaded from the office.

Hoping to find the energy and desire to drag out the Christmas decorations and tree. What a chore.

11/17/05 Wash, Rinse, Repeat....
I have no knittin' to show cuz, as the title today explains, I'm working on sock #2 and the pic would be a close cousin to what you've already seen. I'm on the home stretch to the toe so these puppies should be finished this week. I will soon be casting on Conwy socks and be caught up with the KAL group.

A coworker of DSeester's called me yesterday wanting me to make her a pair of mittens just like DSeester's. I certainly take it as a compliment but golly, I don't think she'll want to pay what it will cost in yarn and time. I'll be researching the cost and letting her know.

I guess the schools have regrouped and decided to let kindergartners sound out words and try to spell what they hear. In a way, I think this is good - let them try. Then again, one of my very dear friends I had while growing up was taught this method and she can't spell worth a sh*t. DGB is learning the sound out method and it seems he is doing well. He comes home with papers from the letter of the week which, have words that start with the letter and he has to sound out the word correlating to the picture. ex. Arrow - Aro.... When he was at our house over the weekend he was telling me that we need more root beer cuz he was drinking the last one. I told him that I need to put it on the grocery list. While I was putting it on the list he told me that we need to add the Chicken Little video game and movie to the list. I told him to write it on there himself. DH is just looking at me when GB grabbed the pen and paper and told me he can't. I told him to do it the way he does in school....sound it out. Here is what he came up with to Granddad's amazement: cikn litl. I think anyone with a 5 year old in their life would know what they're supposed to pick up from the store. Isn't that adorable?

11/14/05 Final Week

Even though I was not feeling well all weekend, I got a lot accomplished. I cleaned the house, did laundry, made potato salad for Saturday, baked cookies, paid bills and finished sock number 1. It fits me pretty well - yes, me! I'm going to keep this pair. I made a lot of changes to the pattern so I'm hoping my notes will help me to make its twin.

11/11/05 Sock Fuzzy

As you can see, I'm making progress on the larger sized Friday Harbor socks. The size is much better with the added 10 stitches and I've turned the heel since taking this picture so fixin' to pick up stitches for the gussets. I'm excited to have these on the needles since they've been loitering in the bag and hanging over my head. I have buttload of sock yarn since I got lucky enough to catch someone downsizing. Got great deals on some great yarn. I may become snazzier with the next pair....perhaps snazzier than just adding a few beads. Can you see the beads in the pic?

11/10/05 Thursday

Isn't it a beaut? I love, love, love how this turned out. I even got the thumbs up from the girls at work and from DD. This ships out to Helen in New England for the Ships Project Afghan they put together and sell raffles tickets for you to win. If you're interested in buying tickets to the *(always) beautiful afghan they construct, let me know and I'll hook you up with dear Helen. Pattern: Imperial Branch

Onto the next project: I charted out and started the Friday Harbor socks that I had made one but alas, it was too small. The Knit-A-Long is now on Conwy, sock #2, so figured I'd best get off my duff and get #1 finished. I wanted to knit all in the book and what better way to do it than a KAL? I recharted and added another 10 stitches in hopes that it is enough to fit my foot. DD is already begging for the socks to be hers. It never ends for me.

I'm in desperate search of *mostly* cotton, slubby yarn for a Christmas project. I also need to make an afghan for DH's daughter. I wonder if I'll get all these projects completed by the holidays? As DSeester says, "Push up that hump and get with it." We'll see cuz my hump is tired and goes through slumpy periods.

Off to chart out the square so I can get it mailed off today.

11/8/05 I'm a Loser....

I didn't get the job....I think me moving from being a supervisor of 12 to a supervisor of none is not gonna happen. Such is my lot in life - I *never* get what I want. I'll end up dead and have to supervise the worms in my coffin since I hate being a supervisor. I'm happy where I'm at so no big deal.

Had a fun weekend - DSIL and I had a swell time at the Knit N Ewe Fiber Fest. I bought a drop spindle kit and this man came up to me outta no where and taught me how! I got about a 30-45 minute lesson from him. DSIL bought two huge skeins of mohair for an afghan. She also bought a set of Addi Turbo circular needles. I was way hatin' on her - gorgeous yarn and needles that even *I* don't own. She was giggling and proud of her purchases. We also got to pet alpacas! They had four there - two surreys and two with the 'fro hair. One of the 'fro haired ones was a real sweetie and begging to be petted. I loved that. After the stop in Boerne we headed on down to the coast and had a fun in the sun time at the beach.

I am almost finished with the vest. I am also almost finished with the purple square that ships off to NETA for their afghan raffle. I am really digging the pattern. It is turning out so pretty and I've had almost zero problem whipping it out.

Words to the Wise:People forget how fast you did a job, but they will remember how well you did it.

11/3/05 Two Thousand AND Five

That is the way Grandbaby tells you the year. Oh and he loves his Peanuts Gang Halloween Pillow. I guess he's hinting around about one for Thanksgiving cuz he keeps telling me that I have the Thanksgiving movie. I guess he wants one for Tgiving and you know what'll be next ---- the Charlie Brown Christmas. Cute pillows, I'm sure.

Speaking of people asking for things. DD brought home a magazine yesterday and pointed out a blanket and two large pillows knit from this cool azz slubby yarn. Although the pic shows a pastel mint color I knew she'd want pink. I'll be on the hunt for slubby cotton yarn that'll work out nice. I see why she wants it - cute, to say the least.

This is the back of the vest. I cast on for the left front this morning. I really like the yarn and I didn't think I would because at first I had a splitting issue. I guess I learned to overcome that part. The color in this pic is not accurate ------ the yarn is more of a touch darker than turquoise. Hey, it is what I had in the stash so get over it. No, not what I would've chosen but then again...what would I have chosen?? There have been many times that I haven't bought a yarn because I couldn't decide on a color. I have a real issue with decision making when it is something that is not black and white or right vs. wrong. Not having a choice cuz it is in the stash works for me.

Words to the Wise: All play and no work does not work.
