11/01/05 November! |

|
I finally finished the Peanuts Halloween Pillow! I put it together last night. I put it off forever because I couldn't figure out how I wanted to finish it. I think it turned out cute. I worked on this while we watched the original Frankenstein movie. I've learned to appreciate the old drama in these movies. We had 1 trick-or-treater and that was Grandbaby. How sad is that? I guess we're going to have to eat our candy ourselves. If the houses in our neighborhood weren't spaced so far apart....I can't really blame the kids for not darkening our doorstep. Time to put away the Halloween decorations and drag out the Thanksgiving ones! Mine are out and ready to be put on display. We host Turkey Day at our house. I'm so looking forward to the time off over Christmas. We get a week and a day this year when we normally get close to two weeks. A rip off but still better than everyone else I know. Doesn't make me grumble any less though. I have completed 42 rows on the back of the Indian vest. It is 12 rows of garter and the rest in stockinette so boring but enough change to not drive me crazy like straight up garter would. The fabric is pretty and I like the yarn. | Here they are in all their glory. I finished the scarf and blocked it over the weekend. I wish I'd had a chance to get a natural light pic of the set but I ran outta time and took the set pic last night. I hope this set will keep DSeester warm and full of love from her big sister. You'll see a change on the graph area - I started the Indian Vest! This project has been on the Wanna-Be List for a while. The pattern is from 25 Gorgeous Sweaters by Catherine Ham. I had about 30 rows on the needles when I decided: 1) I didn't like the cast on; 2) I didn't think it would be big enough for me. I frogged it this morning and started over. I need to *seriously* clean out my office and set up bags of Wanna-Bes. I get to a point of not knowing what to work on next and if I don't have them set up and ready to go.......phhtttt. DH is still very sick. He heads to the doctor today in hopes of getting Rx #3 after getting a culture and sensitivity test. I'm not 100% and I did the Z-Pack and then a shot in the hip. I don't know what strain of strep we have but it likes to hang on for dear life. We head out on Friday for the 2nd Annual Girl's Coast Trip. DSIL & I will be hitting the Boerne Fibert Fest on the way down to the coast. I am so excited! I have never been to anything fiber related and DSIL is also interested in this sort of thing. It'll be fun to be there and have someone with me with the same interest. She is almost finished with a ton of squares that she's going to turn into an afghan. I'm so proud of her. When we were at DMIL's last night I saw a red strip and a green strip of garter stitch. She says she plans on buying some white yarn and she's going to piece together the strips into an afghan. How much more proud can I be? I thank you, again, Mom for teaching me the fiber love. I'm doing my part and sharing the love. Here is what hubby wore on Sunday - the felted top hat I made him. His little head got cold so he dug out his hat. We worked on trimming trees all weekend and worked our butts off. We burned about 2 1/2 of the 6 piles we created. Our poor trees - they so desperately needed a good trim. I can't believe all that we accomplished while both of us were sick as dogs and didn't know we had strep throat. This weekend DH's middle school best friend is coming to town to visit. Guess I'll be doing an early morning cleaning on Saturday since we have a 7:30 p.m. football game tomorrow. Push up the hump and get with it. Didn't touch the scarf since Tuesday. At home I am taking apart a long, chunky wool vest I found at a thrift store that DB and I stopped in while he was here. For 50 cents I figured I could give it a new life. It has an ancient "Made in Taiwan" label in it and it was hand knit. I'm getting more wool than my 50 cents justifies. Words to the Wise:Time flies like arrows. Fruit flies like bananas.

10/25/05 Been sick.... |

|
...but productive. Here are the first set of mittens I've ever made. Of course I had to tweak the pattern since I can't leave anything alone. I was lucky to have DSeester available for me to size the hand and the thumb. My fingers are pretty long and then you add in mega nails. The wrist is a little looser than I prefer but I'll get the official review once DSeester wears them. We finally have cooler weather here in sweltering central Texas - maybe mitten weather is around the corner? Yes, the picture makes them look like they're different sizes - they're not. It was the way I laid them out and I knew it when I snapped the pic. Get over me, I am.I started on the scarf for DSeester to match her mittens. I'm using the "Branching Out" scarf from Knitty and it is one I've been wanting to make anyway. Pretty simple 5 line chart in comparison to the Kiri shawl I pumped out over the summer. Looking forward to wearing that. Yesterday (home sick with strep) I pulled out the hanging winter clothes and put away the hanging summer clothes. Huge chore. Now I have to do the sweaters and socks. The never ending list. Speaking of sick - I started getting sick on my drive home from work on the Tuesday prior to DBBro flying in and went to the doctor that Thursday. Never did completely heal and headed to the doctor with a sick hubby yesterday. Both of us diagnosed with strep throat. DH tends to think I had it from the beginning but it didn't show on the quick strep test. I need to finish the Charlie Brown Halloween pillow. Need to, need to! ....How about this? I guess DSIL liked her scarf cuz I got a call while riding the bus home asking if I can make gloves. I explained to my DBB that I cannot make gloves out of this yarn but I can make mittens. I then proceeded to explain what type yarn they need to buy if she wants gloves. I guess it is my fate to move toward gloves/mittens cuz DSeester was asking about mittens for which I've had the yarn set aside for her/I, DSIL asking about a pair and then I see on Wendy's blog about a Mitten Along. How many more hints am I going to have to see before getting off my butt and doing them? If I get a little time I will dig out the needles and get with it. I did finish the guts of a knitted purse. I hope to put it together over the weekend along with finishing off the Peanuts Gang Halloween Pillow for GB. Ugh, the never-ending list.Words to the Wise:You can only control two things...your attitude and your activity.

10/19/05 Check It Out #2! |

Here are the Low Riser Cuff Slippers I created for my brother's kid. From what I was told, he had them on his feet immediately. Now he wants a pink pair for Christmas. If you're interested in purchasing this $3 pattern, e-mail me at: eniglady at gmail.com or Paypal purchase it to: mrodgers at mail.utexas.eduLast night I started one of the cable purses I intend to make for our girls. At first I was sure of the color and now as it flows on the needles, I'm not so sure. We'll see how it goes. I may have to stash dig. Work was pretty overwhelming yesterday. Not overly busy but everything I touched didn't work. That gets old really quick. Words to the Wise: The greater part of progress is the desire to progress.

Here is my latest pattern creation.....pumpkin socks for infants and children! I love them on the feet - I should take a picture of GB sporting them around. He likes them too. I sent DB Don home with Teagan's pair. I should be getting a picture from DC Tracy really soon. Pattern is available at The Knitting Vault. I'm also working on getting the feltedstocking up and ready for purchase. I knit my hands off while DB was here. When he got here I had just finished the foundation for GB's socks and needed the yarn for the green tendrils. When we hit HL, he bought 4 skeins of luscious yarn for a scarf so I ended up finishing GB's slippers, produced a set for Teagan, knocked out the scarf and then a pair of short slippers for DB's son, Sean. I'll be putting up that pattern also. He didn't want the long cuff but a mini cuff so I set my mind to it and knocked them out in about 1 1/2 days. He has lots of goodies to share with his/our family. It was a good visit, even if I was sick the entire time. I will enjoy a full night's sleep once this crud passes through my system.DB and I hit Cooper's BBQ yesterday. What a yummy way to enjoy lunch. We did a little mall shopping on the way back. He took back some cute Texas tees for his family. It is so cute to watch him shop. It is back to work and cleaning my house.....I'm off.

10/13/05 I know, I know... |
...it has been a million years since I've posted. I get into a slump at times and this has been one of my slumpy times. I didn't have anything to show or talk about. Same old crap, busy at work and life. Also, I'm waiting to finish a pair of the kid's pumpkin slippers so I can show a picture here and post the pattern (along with the felted Christmas stocking) over at the knitting vault. I need to run to HL and get some green yarn to finish. I'm also working on a pair for DC Tracy's baby girl, Teagan. Yesterday DSeester and I hit the airport to retrieve our brother. DSeester secured us boarding passes to meet him at the gate. She hit the bar while I was his greeter. He got a chance to have two beers before he got to leave the airport. Then we three kings headed to the tattoo parlor for our sibling tattoos. It wasn't very painful and I'm pleased with the results. I have mine on the top part of my thigh, close to my hip. We got a Chinese symbol for family and then letters looking Chinese of the first initials of our siblings. |

I'm heading to the doctor at 2 today. I'm thinking I have a touch of the flu or strep throat. Either way, I'm mad that I am sick while brother is here visiting. Luckily, I do have *some* energy so I won't be a total waste. We're having a party on Saturday and I'm hoping the doctor can give me a shot to make me immediately better. Yuk! I guess that is all I've got for right now. Pretty boring, eh?
