Explanation of Chapter Summary Report
OPERATING FUNDS -- Operating funds will be electronically deposited in the chapter's checking account two times during each fiscal year, if criteria are met. The Operating Funds document is excellent as a basic guide to use to determine when it is appropriate to expend this special fund. Operating funds may be carried over into the next fiscal year, but it is recommended that no more than 10 percent be carried from one year to the next.

Activity in the operating funds budget line is to be reported online in the chapter administration area.

Managing & Reporting Chapter Operating Funds--Quick Reference Guide
Chapter leaders, who wish to be reimbursed for chapter leadership expenses, are to complete a Chapter Leader Expense Reimbursement Request form and submit it to the financial director.

TEMPLATES to Help With Accounting for Operating Funds
"Busy people get the job done," is a frequently used quote. Busy people may well be the ones who will most appreciate having access to the optional Quicken and Excel templates to help organize and expedite the financial accounting of chapter operating funds.

The templates will only function if you have matching software (Microsoft Excel or Quicken) loaded on your hard drive. The use of either template and the use of specific software is, of course, optional.

Care in Congregations -- Should chapter leaders worry ??
The Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members who reside in your chapter's geographical area are members of your chapter/lodge. The churches where they worship are allocated a set amount of Care program funds each year. The chapter is responsible for:
o Helping to recruite congregational coordinators who will administer the Care in Congregations program at their church.
o Approving congregational coordinators at least annually.
o Training congregational coordinators.
o Encouraging congregational coordinators to use the the Care in Congregations funds effectively.
o Helping to promote Care in Congregations activities to all chapter members via the chapter's web site and newsletter.

See also the following web pages on this site:
o Care in Congregations Procedures
o Care & Share -- Care in Congregations (This is the place where exemplary Care in Congregations activities in the Northeast Region will be posted.)

YES, chapter leaders do need to continually monitor the activity in the Care in Congregations program to ensure that the opportunities are being maximized in this program. The reports in Chapter Admin are the tools to use to keep tabs on Care in Congregations.

Recognizing Volunteers
Volunteers, chapter leaders included, work long and selflessly to help make churches and communities better for others. Rejuvenate the spirit of congregational coordinators, service team members, and chapter leaders with some form of appropriate recognition from time to time. Operating funds may be used for this purpose.

Some ideas that have worked successfully for chapters across the country are:
o Purchase Thrivent Financial for Lutherans t-shirts for the volunteers to wear while conducting their chapter-hosted activity.
o Purchase altar flowers for each congregation in the chapter to recognize the many Thrivent Financial for Lutherans volunteers in the congregation.
o Purchase Thrivent Financial for Lutherans name badges for congregational coordinators and chapter leaders.
o Provide a catered dinner for the volunteers.
o Purchase Thrivent Financial logo aprons for each congregation in the chapter for the volunteers to wear at Thrivent Financial sponsored activities.

Please take a minute to check the "Hats Off to Volunteers" web page on this site to read about the volunteers from the Northeast Region who were recently honored, both regionally and nationally, for their service.
