Mission Of the Quarter
We are again looking for mission opportunities within the Carolinas District to apply for Mission of the Quarter funds. Normally a MOQ will receive anywhere from $500 to $750 for their project. These projects need to be ongoing since the funds are received at the end of the quarter in which the project is chosen. Each society is encouraged to send money each quarter to help with the current MOQ. These funds are over and above what is sent in as mites. The upcoming Mission of the Quarter recipients are as follows:

1st Quarter 2012—Food Bank at Mt. Calvary, Kannapolis
As Lutheran Women in Mission, they are serving the homeless and needy in their community on the 3rd Saturday of every month as an outreach with a meal of homemade soup and sandwiches and also giving out bags of food. There is a great need in their community for this service as they have many people out of work, out of unemployment funds, losing homes and cannot keep their utilities on or feed their children. The congregation donates non-perishable items but what is donated is not enough to take care of the needy and they are looking for other sources of funds.

2nd Quarter 2012—Braille Center at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Simpsonville, SC
Money will be used to bring the written word of God to blind people all over the world. They “print” and ship 40 books a month and have 15 to 17 volunteers per week involved which includes members and non-members. There is an expense of $500 to $750 for paper supplies per year. It is an ongoing mission project and they would be thankful to receive Mission of the Quarter funds.

Prayers are requested for these outreach projects as they spread the love of Christ to those in need around them. We are the hands and feet of Christ here on earth and we pray that our eyes will be opened to more opportunities to serve Him!

Serve as an LWML Officer
Is this the time for you to find out how the LWML works from the inside? All the women who serve as officers are like you but have let the Lord take them by the hand and stepped up their service.
If you haven’t done this before now is the time to see how God can use you in his mission. In September 2012 we will need new officers. You will find wonderful women and friends to guide you in making sure the LWML continues in mission when you choose to serve.
If you have served before plan to continue or try a new office to expand you ways of service.

You may know someone who you think would be a blessing to God’s mission. Acknowledging them might be all it takes to spur them into service. Pray about it and see how the Lord will give you the skills to do His work.
All the women involved as officers for years do it because it is soul satisfying and the yoke is easy.
The form for applying is in the Cross connection or at the link to the right. You can also contact:

LWML History Tidbit
On April 24, 1938, forty-nine women, representing nine churches of the Southeastern Conference of the English District, met at Christ Lutheran Church in Hickory, NC. Rev James L Summers, pastor of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Hickory, NC, presented a plan to form a Lutheran Women’s League. The league would study missions and promote missionary work. Mrs. Louise Buchheimer of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Greensboro, NC was elected as the first president.
