Clean up will be immediately following lunch, and all hands will be on deck to help clean up. Those who sign up to set up will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 10:00 a.m., and everyone else will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 11:35 a.m. We are asking the congregation to bring your best desserts to share. We are going to the ELCA National Youth Gathering in 2012, and it will be here before
you know it. Ashley Brandt will take the lead on this event as she has attended National
Youth Gatherings as a member of Friedens Youth. The theme is “Citizens with the
Saints” and will be in New Orleans.
We have to start planning now as it fills up FAST. If you are (or will be) attending high
school in 2012, and are serious about wanting to go, please:
* Communicate your intentions to Ashley or Stuart. You can send an email or put a note
into the Youth mailbox in the church library. We have to start planning and
need this information ASAP!!!
* Get a $50 deposit in marked “Youth Gathering” with the youth’s name to our
Youth Committee Treasurer - Becky Randall ASAP so that we can start planning for
the correct number of folks. The deposit balance of $150 (total) is due by October 8.
We will register October 9 and we have to have the deposit in at that time. This
deposit is refundable if you decide not to go before we have to send in the
registration.

The performance will be at 6:00 p.m. on the campus of Winston-Salem State University, 601 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, at the Anderson Conference Center (336-750-2120). “Vesta” is presented by the WSSU Gerontology Program and North Carolina AARP.

This year’s focus will be Old Testament Bible with “intentionally designed programs that prepare the heart of each child to receive the gospel message in an unforgettable way.” (Group Publishing) The week begins Sunday, July 31 and continues each evening through Friday, August 5 from 6:00 – 8:45 p.m. Classes are planned for youth, ages 2 – middle school and an adult class, too! Supper will be provided for all participants and their families in the Fellowship Hall Sunday – Friday. Please pick up a registration form located on the Christian Education bulletin board, and return it to Jenni or Angela by July 10 so that we can order our Friedens Youth T-shirts for visiting youth. If your Friedens youth does not have a T-shirt, please see Angela.

Prayer shawls are given to anyone who is experiencing illness, loss of a loved one, turmoil in their lives, or who is celebrating a special event in their lives. Activities will include missions, lock-ins with Bible study and devotion, and recreation. The Youth Page in the monthly newsletter will show the exact dates and times; however, you can count on every third Saturday in the month for these meetings. Of course, church activities that conflict with these days will be adjusted at that time.

| Youth Missions - Macedonia | | From Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 through Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010 each day starting at 8:30a. | | On December 28-29, 2010, FLY, Pathseekers, and all 4th and 5th graders will participate in a mission project with Macedonia Lutheran Church, Burlington. The event will include crafts, games, reflection/discussion of activities, devotion, and a lock-in (FLY only). FLY must have overnight items packed (list of overnight items on the Youth Board). Pathseekers and 4th and 5th graders will meet each day at the church no later than 8:30 a.m. to take the vans to Macedonia. On December 28 the event will begin with breakfast at 9:00 a.m. at the Twin Lakes Memory Care Center, and then, crafts from 9:30 a.m. to noon. At noon, we'll drive to Macedonia and have lunch. Pathseekers and 4th and 5th graders will leave Macedonia at noon after lunch. On December 29 we'll have breakfast, and we'll play a game once Pathseekers and the 4th and 5th graders arrive. The Christian Education and Youth Committees are hosting a luncheon immediately following the 11:00 worship service. The meal will feature German cuisine. Committee members and the youth are needed to help in the kitchen. Desserts are also needed if anyone in the congregation would be willing to contribute baked goods. Please sign up on the Youth Board and write in what you will contribute on that day — time and/or talent.
Pathseekers and FLY will serve the meal during the luncheon. Youth, as Christ showed us how to be his servants by serving others, please sign up to serve your church community.

Youth Ministry will provide bread, baggies, brown lunch bags, granola bars, dried fruit snacks,
bag chips, low sugar fruit juice drinks, spreaders and scoopers to make the sandwiches, and
brochures about our church.
FROM FRIEDENS: We need from you sandwich fillers to make 100 sandwiches such as
pimento cheese, chicken salad, and/or ham & cheese. There are some awesome cooks in the
Friedens church family, and homemade items will be appreciated by those who are less
fortunate than we. If you would like to make or purchase sandwich fillers, please let Angela
