Flu Shots Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011 from 9:00a until 12:00p. The Parish Nurse Ministry is offering seasonal flu shots on Sunday October 16, 2011. The cost is $30, but is covered by most Medicare and commercial insurance plans -- ask whether yours is among them when you call to register. Manage Your Diabetes From the week of Sept. 14, 2010 through the week of Nov. 23, 2010, Tuesday of every 2 weeks from 6:30p until 8:30p. Do you or someone you know have diabetes? If you would like to learn how to manage your diabetes and live a healthier life, the Parish Nurses invite you to join the diabetes program from Washington University Diabetes Center. This six-session program will meet at Atonement in the Multipurpose Room every other Tuesday, starting Sept. 14. Lenten Health Activity: Tai Chi From the week of Feb. 24, 2010 through the week of March 24, 2010, Wednesday of every week from 6:30p until 7:15p. This year's Lenten Health Series will consist of Tai Chi (Sun style) instruction by the Parish Nurses. Tai Chi may improve mobility, breathing and relaxation. These movements DO NOT require deep bending or squatting and can be done in a chair if necessary. We will learn six basic steps, plus a warm up and a cool down. We will meet Wednesdays after the Lenten dinner in the Multi-purpose Room (Room 115) from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., Feb. 24 to Mar. 24.

Live Like Your Life Depends On It From the week of Sept. 16, 2009 through the week of Oct. 14, 2009, Wednesday of every week from 6:30p until 9:00p. This is part of a a 6-week educational workshop for adults with chronic conditions including, but not limited to, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, arthritis, emphysema, pain, fatigue, anxiety high blood pressure and shortness of breath. The class is being taught by our parish nurses and is open to the general public.

Live Like Your Life Depends On It Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 from 6:30p until 9:00p. This is the first meeting of the fall session of the class entitled, "Live Like Your Life Depends On It." This is a 6-week educational workshop for adults living with chronic conditions including, but not limited to, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, arthritis, asthma, emphysema, pain, fatigue, anxiety high blood pressure and shortness of breath. Confronting Our Own Death From the week of March 4, 2009 through the week of April 1, 2009, Wednesday of every week from 6:30p until 7:15p. This year's Lenten Health Series will employ a series of video presentations to address the weighty subject of confronting one's own death from a Christian perspective. The series begins on March 4 for a total of 5 weeks. The meetings are on Wednesdays between the Lenten dinners and Lenten worship services and are held in our (new) multi-purpose room on the main level. Please come join us!

Adult Health Fair Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007 from 10:00a until 3:00p. We are holding an adult health fair, which is open to the general public and will offer blood glucose screening as well as a wide variety of health education opportunities. Health topics covered include: asthma and allergies, Alzheimer's, arthritis, back care, care coordination and management, diabetes, hearing and speech, hospice and Tai Chi. In addition, healthy snacks will be available. This fair will be held in Kretzmann Hall (the gym) at the times listed herein.

Blood Sugar Screening Monday, July 30, 2007 from 10:00a until 12:00p. The Kilo Diabetes Foundation will be offering FREE blood sugar screening to the public here at Lutheran Church of the Atonement on July 30th from 10:00 am to Noon. To avoid inaccurate results, participants MUST NOT eat or drink anything (except water and medications) for the 2 hours preceding their test!

Arthritis Exercise From the week of Feb. 13, 2007 through the week of Feb. 27, 2007, Tuesday, Friday of every week from 9:00a until 10:00a. Think you can't exercise because of arthritic pain or decreased endurance? Did you know that exercise could help decrease arthritic stiffness and pains and may help increase your endurance? Juvenile Diabetic Support Group Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005 starting at 6:30p. The juvenile diabetic support group is for youth in grades two through eight with diabetes and their parents and caregivers. Meetings are held in the school library (Room A-21), with separate groups for diabetic students and caregivers. This month's topics include diabetic awareness and food choices during the holidays. Back to School Health Fair Friday, July 23, 2004 from 12:00p until 3:00p. This is a hands-on opportunity for children and their families to acquire health tips and have fun doing so. Some of the activities provided include black light check of handwashing effectiveness, helmet safety and blood pressure checks, use of a fire extinguisher, healthy snacks, finger printing and exercise and physical coordination activities.
