The Lutheran Course

An introduction to Lutheranism for those new to the faith (or those who want a little "refresher" course). Each evening there is a simple meal at 5:45, followed by study & discussion.
Spring Youth Rally

Christ Lutheran, St. Joseph's Catholic, & St. Mark's Episcopal churches are sponsoring an all-day event for Jr. & Sr. High youth. There will be a community service project in the morning, a canoe trip on the Coosa River in the afternoon, & dinner & a concert in the evening at Christ. Christian recording artist Adam Wright will be featured in the concert. We will meet at St. Joseph's at 8 AM. The only cost is $30. for a 2-person canoe.
Relay for Life
Friday, April 24, 2009 starting at 6:00p.
The American Cancer Society sponsors an annual Relay for Life to honor those who have survived a bout with cancer, to remember those whose lives were lost to this disease, & to raise money for cancer research & treatment. The Relay is being held at the new YMCA on McQueen Smith. Mevelyn Baxter is team captain.
Graduate Dinner/CAPTIVE FREE Concert
Tuesday, May 16, 2006 from 6:00p until 8:00p.
We will honor our 2006 graduates--Amanda Holway, John Ide, & Michelle Walter--at a covered dish dinner beginning at 6 PM. We will also have time to meet the members of the CAPTIVE FREE group. Following dinner, at 7 PM, CAPTIVE FREE will present a family night concert with music, puppetry, skits, & personal testimony. Admission is free; a love offering will be taken for the group.
Worship Ministry Training

Training sessions will be held for those wishing to volunteer as Worship Assistant, Lector, Acolyte, or Usher. This training is for newcomers & those who have been a part of these worship ministries previously. Breakfast will be available at 8:30, with the training sessions beginning at 9:00.
EN FUEGO

Third Day highlights a day of Christian music at the En Fuego festival in Verbena AL. We will leave the church at 12:30 PM to travel to the Verbena. The concerts last from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM. There is no admission fee; but a love offering will be received. Let Pastor Mason know if you plan to attend.

ALL ALASSIPPI YOUTH GATHERING
From Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 through Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008 every 3 days.
Sept. 19-21 promises to be an exciting weekend as Lutheran youth from all over Alabama & Mississippi come to Gulf Shores for the 2008 All Alassippi Youth Gathering. The theme for the weekend centers on the ELCA Book of Faith initiative. Activities will include music, games, arts & crafts, fellowship, worship, & a service project. Bishop Julian Gordy & Rachel Alley (SE Synod youth coordinator) will be in attendance. The cost for the weekend is $ 80.00/person & includes 4 meals, dormitory-style lodging, a T-shirt, & great fun! Our congregational registration is due by Sept. 15th, so sign up today. One or two adult chaperones are needed to accompany the youth to Gulf Shores. Constitutional Review

Do you want to know more about the CLC Constitution & Bylaws? As members, we should all be familiar with the documents governing our church. On Sept. 14, after the 2nd service, Council will have a session to review these documents. In preparation for the next Congregational Meeting, we will be reviewing for updates required to bring them in line with current recommendations from the Synod as well as formulating any proposals for changes we would like to make. Please contact Shannon Whited if you have any questions. Since this meeting is at noon, this will be a “working lunch” session. Pizza will be delivered & donations accepted to pay for it.

Yoga

Breathing, flexibility, muscle toning—these are some of the physical benefits that can accrue from regular sessions of yoga. Christ Lutheran is blessed to have a certified (& caring) yoga instructor, Peggy Allison, who is willing to lead a session each Tuesday. The cost is only $ 5.00/person. Just wear comfortable clothing & bring a mat to the Fellowship Hall at 7:15… & be prepared to relax.

Congregational Meeting

In addition, we will select an individual to fulfill the final 18 months of Shannon Hancock's term on Congregation Council. Advent Dinner & Worship

Everyone is encouraged to be a part of our Advent preparations for Christmas on Wednesdays, December 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd. Those evenings we will gather at 5:45 p.m. for a light supper consisting of soup & sandwiches. At 6:30 we will gather in the Sanctuary to enjoy Marty Haugen’s “Holden Evening Prayer” & learn about 4 different Advent/Christmas traditions from around the world—The Jesse Tree, Good Works Manger, Las Posadas, & Santa Lucia.
Mountain Christmas Concert

Sunday, Dec. 20th, is the date for our annual Christmas Caroling Party. The Youth will lead us in bringing good cheer to shut-ins around Prattville, via our favorite songs of the season. Worship is a hallmark of the Lutheran experience. Each week we gather at Christ Lutheran to worship the God of grace. Worship style alternates weekly between Traditional & Contemporary. Certain elements of the Lutheran liturgy are present in both worship styles, including: Confession & Forgiveness, Prayer, Scripture (following the Revised Common Lectionary), Proclamation of the Word, Holy Communion, & Confession of Faith. Everyone is welcome!!! No prior experience is necessary.

Calling all teens! The annual trip to the mall in Montgomery is coming up on Monday, Dec. 21st. We will leave the church at 10 a.m. for a day of ice skating & shopping. Egg Hunt at Victoria Place

Saturday, April 3, at 11 a.m., Christ Lutheran will reach out to the folks at the Victoria Place Apartments (behind the church) by staging an Easter Egg Hunt for the children who live there. Deb Fultz is leading this outreach; but she could use assistance in stuffing plastic eggs with candy, hiding eggs on the grounds at the apartments & coordinating the hunt.
Community Garden Dedication

Christ Lutheran has a couple of acres behind the church that normally grow nothing but weeds. But this year we plan to plow up much of that land & offer it to the public as a Community Garden. Families and/or individuals will be invited to “stake a claim” on Saturday, April 24th, to a 25’x25’ plot on which they can raise whatever they would like (so long as it is legal). The Auburn University Cooperative Extension Service has been helpful in developing this project & will likely offer spring & fall workshops at CLC on planting, rain barrel construction, food canning & preservation, etc.
Congregational Meeting & Covered Dish

The regularly scheduled Spring Congregational Meeting will be held on April 18, immediately following worship. There will be an update on recent budgetary efforts, as well as the election of new officers. There will be a Covered Dish Dinner at the conclusion of the meeting.
Advent Worship

“The Stars Tell the Story” is a series of special Advent monologues prepared by Rev. Donald Neidigk to lead participants from Creation to Christ. Each Wednesday during Advent we will experience one “star,” set in the midst of Marty Haugen’s Holden Evening Prayer Liturgy. Advent Wednesdays begin at 5:45 pm with a light meal, followed at 6:30 pm by worship. Join us for fellowship & to prepare for Christ’s coming as the Morning Star at Christmas.
CAROLING PARTY

The annual CLC Caroling Party is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 19th at 5 pm. We will spread Christmas cheer to shut-ins & special friends before returning to the church to warm up with chili & hot chocolate. HOLIDAY CHILD CARE

Need to do some late Christmas shopping without the children? Or maybe you & your spouse would just like a few hours of quiet time before the final Christmas rush. Make use of the Holiday Child Care being offered by the Youth at Christ Lutheran the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 18th. There will be games, crafts, & a movie or two to keep the youngsters happy as you relax. There is no cost for this child care; however, free will offerings will be accepted & deposited in the Youth account for future activities.
SHOPPING & SKATING AT THE MALL

Our annual Youth excursion to the Eastdale Mall is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 21st. We will meet at the church at 10 am (those living in Montgomery can meet us at the mall at 10:30). Everyone is encouraged to bring money for lunch, skating (if you plan to) & for any shopping you plan to do. If you have your own ice skates, you may bring them. We will plan to leave the Mall at about 4 pm. There will be a sign-up on the Youth board in the Fellowship Hall.

Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper when Jesus shared the Passover meal with his disciples on the night before he was crucified. In contrast to joyful Easter celebrations when Christians worship their resurrected Savior, Maundy Thursday services are typically more solemn occasions, marked by the shadow of Jesus' betrayal.
