Church Council Meeting Highlights

August 2006

WELCA, Leap of Faith, Sunday School, and the Music & Worship Committee presented mid-year reports to the council at their regular meeting on Wednesday 2 August at 8:00 pm.

WELCA President Susan Janicke presented the WELCA report. The group makes most of their money from their three annual fundraisers: Salad Luncheon, Ice Cream Social, and Ham and Meatball Supper. They support a great number of charities with the money from the fundraisers. She also noted that the basement floor will need to be replaced sometime in the next few years.

Sunday School Superintendent Beth Helgeson discussed the Sunday School. There will be 17 kids attending for the 2006-2007 school year. Most of the teachers for the year are already lined up. The biggest challenge is to get the kids to show up on a consistent basis. She placed an ad in the paper to try to get some new people for Vacation Bible School, but didn’t receive any feedback.

Donna Fitzgerald reported for Leap of Faith. The main events of the year include Rally Weekend, Samaritan’s Purse Shoeboxes, Easter Breakfast, and the Surprise Banquet. The money they raise from these events is used to help send kids to camp and for group meetings and events to introduce more people to the church. Donna stressed that the group is for everyone, no matter what your age.

Susan Janicke also spoke about the Music & Worship Committee. The group meets every 2-3 months. They use a variety of resources to help them plan services. Their goals are to challenge people to learn new hymns, but also to help people feel comfortable when worshipping. The group is always looking for new people.

The Hegre Household Committee met on July 19 to look at the status of Hegre’s membership.

Hegre’s workday for the Habitat for Humanity house is now scheduled for Saturday 7 October. A crew of 6-10 is needed.

The new intern will be Joy Norquist, and she will be living at the parsonage in Dennison.
