In the spring of 2005, members of Hegre met to put together a set of recommendations for the church council that included both short and long term actions. One of those recommendations was to study possible sharing arrangements with other congregations as a way to enhance the ministry of the congregation.
Recently, a conversation initiated by the council presidents and that included the Pastors of Moland and Hegre congregations was held to consider possible sharing arrangements between the two congregations. At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to report to the church councils and congregations on the discussions at the meeting.
Hegre and Moland are very similar congregations. The ministry of each congregation is limited by a slowly declining active membership, but with many assets for growth as churches of the community. It was agreed that sharing the talents and assets of congregations multiplies the effect of the congregational ministry beyond what can be accomplished alone.
At the conclusion of the meeting we agreed to continue conversations on sharing. These could include invitations to other congregations in addition to Hegre and Moland to join the discussions. A report on the meeting was given to the Hegre Council on December 6. It was the unanimous consensus of the council to continue to participate in discussions on possible sharing arrangements.
Please understand that these discussions are all very preliminary and no decisions have been made. This will be a very deliberative process and any information affecting Hegre will be provided completely and in a timely manner to the council and congregation. No actions will be taken without the recommendation of the church council and consent of the congregation.
