In March 2010, we began a stewardship campaign to increase our discipleship through our giving with the help of our Stewardship Key Leader, Dr. Karen Soli. Our goal was to reach $250,000 in pledges over a three year period, above and beyond our regular giving, to help facilitate the construction of our new fellowship hall. We were given many opportunities to reflect on our stewarship and were blessed with some wonderful "temple talks" and witnessed one of the few "stewardship sermons" ever preached by Pastor Al! On Sunday, April 18th, we came together and made our commitments during the Sunday morning worship service. That afternoon we gathered for dessert and coffee and the totals were announced. From that first tally, the pledges reached $189,522! That's over 75% on day one!!! And as of the end of May, we now have $208,281 pledged and have already collected $31,475! There are more pledges to come and we know that with God's help we will certainly reach our goal! We will keep this page updated with our totals as they develop. Truly, God has a plan for Amazing Grace, and we are truly grateful to be a part of all the wonderful things he is doing for us, our church, and our community! |

After breaking ground in November, 2009, it took a while to see any progress on the new fellowship hall because the winter was so cold and wet. But look at what God has provided us with now - a place to come together, receive his blessings and share them with this community! How can we not be so incredibly grateful?!!! We will be moving our worship services to the fellowship hall beginning with a Dedication Service and Homecoming on September 19th! We will be holding a fundraising barbecue on September 25th from 11:00am - 7:00pm. Tell everyone you know to come get some great barbecue made by Terry Shook! Eat-in, take-out, or by-the-pound - your choice!

Our Groundbreaking service was truly a blessed event. Though the weather reports had been calling for rain to move in early that morning, the forecasts changed at the last minute and the rains held off until after our service was complete! After our worship service, we processed down the street and across the road to the future site of our new building and began our service. Our special guests for the Groundbreaking were Rev. Judy Klusman, Assistant to the North Carolina Bishop, and the community groups that meet at Amazing Grace - the Girl Scouts from the Daisy and Brownie Troops, and members of the twelve-step program. Accompanied by Pastor Al and Rev. Klusman on their guitars we sang "They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love" and asked God's blessing on our work and the ground that we have set aside for building a new church in His name. The choir provided a special anthem called "Come Build a Church" reminding us that God's true church is not of "wood or glass or stone", but of "flesh and blood" and that "Jesus shall be our sure foundation" in this church "built by the hand of God." The youth of the church and members of the Girl Scout troops were given small shovels and asked to be the first to break ground. They were followed by Richard Bolick and Robert Setzer, leaders of the Building Committee; Glenn Barger, President of the Church Council; Pastor Al and Rev. Klusman. Anyone who wanted to turn a shovel of dirt then got their chance! After singing "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms", the kids released red balloons into the air carrying information on the event and contact information for Amazing Grace out into the community.
