South Blue Ridge Chapter Joined Hands to Assist
Aaron's House in Cleveland County
Chapter members turned out on May 9, 2009 to clean up and mulch the
yard, trim bushes, and paint hallways and rooms at the Aaron's House in
Shelby, NC. Approximately 35 Thrivent members and Aaron's House adults
and children worked hard to beautify the home. Aaron's House (and its
brother site, the James Home) provide a safe, nurturing environment for
youth, ages 6-21 years in Cleveland County. Each home has a capacity for
eight boys and girls who attend public school or is enrolled full time
in college or technical school. Living in a family-type setting allows
the children to develop healthy relationships, and to work on personal
responsibility, good school and work habits as well as spiritual
development.
The
South Blue Ridge Chapter web site has a wonderful collection of
photos from this event. You are encouraged to "take a peek." |
Laurens-Spartanburg Chapter and Girl Scout Aided
Musgrove Mill State Park
A hardy group of young women and their scout leaders rolled up their
sleeves for a day of very heavy-duty work. The Mill State Park benefited
from their labor as they did some terrain maintenance and soil erosion
control. No strangers to the hard work, the group has participated in
three previous Join Hands Day events at the park. |

St. Peter's Lutheran (Pawleys Island) and Trinity
Lutheran (Georgetown) Joined Hands
The two congregation joined hands with the St. Ann Outreach Center of
Kingstree to bring 35 children and 5 chaperones to Huntington Beach
State Park for a day at the beach.
The day included plenty of great food, fellowship, and games. The
children and their chaperones enjoyed a presentation by the parks
naturalist. And, of course, they were able to have some fun playing in
the ocean. The day concluded with a sing along and a dinner of hotdogs,
hamburgers, and barbeque chicken. It was a great day that was enjoyed by
all who attended. |

Capital, North Carolina Chapter
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the Join Hands Day
event this past Saturday a success. We had 30 Thrivent members with 65
total helping prepare brown bag lunches for the homeless. 700 bags were
prepared in 2.5 hours and 200 lunches were delivered and handed out in
downtown Raleigh Moore Square. Everyone I talked with got a lot out of
this service project and want to do again. You may
learn more about the
Brown Bag Ministry
from their web site.
Thank you, Jon Persson, Capital NC Chapter |
